We visited Dominica in 1996 as a port of call on a Carnival cruise. Dominica is a rainforest with lots of jungle. There were no big shopping areas such as those found on most Caribbean islands. We chose an excursion that that would take us on an island tour in a bus up into the jungle. The first part of the excursion to us to The Botanical Garden and parrot aviary, and we saw many types of parrots. Then we drove past many plantations filled with banana trees. High up in the hills, we hiked back into the forest to a small pool underneath a waterfall. We were allow to go swimming in the pool, but only a small percentage of us did. The water was very cool. I enjoyed climbing under the waterfall and have the water pelt me. It was really a blast swimming in the pool of water in the middle of that rain forest. That is what I will always remember most about our visit to Dominica!
