I was on a Carnival cruise a few weeks ago, and the cruise director mentioned that they were building a new cruise ship. The cruise ship we were on, the Carnival Legend weighed about 87000 tons. The new cruise ship that that they are planning is going to weigh 200000 tons. The cruise director joked that the new cruise ship would be so big that it wouldn’t need engines. You could get on the ship in Miami, walk to the other end of the ship, and get off in St Thomas. He had mentioned the name of the new cruise ship but I had forgotten it. I did a search and found the name of the new cruise ship is going to be Carnival Pinnacle. At 200000 tons, this new cruise ship is going to be huge! Wow! I wonder what new amenities the Carnival Pinnacle will have. Ships these days have rock walls and water slides. What will this new cruise ship have? Maybe a football field or a golf course? The Carnival Pinnacle is being built at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy and is planned for launch in 2007.

The new ship is called SPLENDOR! And she sails in july of this year

Actually, the Splendor is only 113,000 tons (still the biggest Carnival ship yet) The Pinnacle was to be the first in a class of 200,000 plus ton ships to rival Royal Caribbeans new 220,000 ton Genesis class ships, but it has been put on the back burner for now. Carnival corp is probably wise to wait and see how the RCCL mega ships are received before proceeding as they might just be too big for most cruisers.
