While there may be mountains which are at higher elevations, the Adirondack allure is the fact that you often have to hike many miles through the rugged beauty of this area just to get to the BASE of many of our peaks. NEVER underestimate Mt. Marcy or any of her companions in the high peaks area, and ALWAYS be prepared. Even thouogh these are 'only' 4-5,000 foot peaks, the weather on or around them can change extremely quickly. This can be very unforgiving land for the unprepared and unskilled...That being said, get out there and enjoy our beautiful wilderness!
