- I bought this after looking through a dozen maps at the bookstore to use during a the few weeks that I visited DC.
It is basically a nice map with a 40 page booklet stapled to it.
I read the "guide"/booklet part of it which includes concise descriptions of the major highlights of DC; the depth of this guidebook is appropriate for those who are only going to spend a day or two touring or those that are supplementing with another guidebook (I liked DK's Eyewitness book with pictures). When I was done reviewing the "guide" part, I separated it from that map and travelled around with just the map part.
This map is very user friendly & informative: Words/colors are easy to read. It includes the Metro stops, famous buildings, & parks all superimposed on one easy to use folding map. I have been all over the city and found the location of these sites to be accurately marked on the map. Also, Adams-Morgan (north) and Rosslyn(west) are included. On the back side of the map is a schematic diagram of the entire Metro train system as well as a Washington DC regional road map.
Several people that live in DC have commented that it's a useful map.
Also, the map is laminated and very sturdy.

- I am visit the DC area frequently, but I rarely take the time to explore the tourist sights. This book really gave me some great insights on the sights and helped me prioritize what I wanted to see. The restaurant & hotel suggestions were outstanding, I was not once disappointed. The 'musts for kids' section was very useful in helping me plan not-so-boring things for my children to do. Michelin points out activities & attractions for kids that really peaked their interest (and mine too!!)
- I bought this book to facilitate my recent family trip to DC. While I went to school in DC, it has been a few years since I have visited. I wanted something to bring me current post 9/11.
This book is not as encompassing as others on the market but, it gets the job done. It is concise and to the point. Many main and "off the beaten path" attractions are identified. Although in the dining section, my favorite Georgetown Italian resturant was overlooked. I can forgive that. The book offers great recommendations on places to eat, stay and visit.
If you are going to DC buy this book to carry with you. It will easily fit into a pocket for ease of use.
- compact information, great for planning a short visit to DC., especialy for people with limited time for preparations.

- My son is 5 and has become very interested in the buildings of Washington D.C. I had a hard time finding a book that had a lot of pictures without all the verbage. This book is the best that I have found! Delightful pictures will hold the interest of the very young. Recommended for the pre-book-report set!
- While this book was a good idea for youngsters, it left out a number of important places in D.C., so wasn't as useful as I had hoped in helping my little one get ready or remember our trip.

2 comments about Quest for the Holy Grill: 50 Crummy But Good Restaurants Within Rambling Range of Washington, D.C. (Capital Hometown Guides).
- Written by a restaurant expert, "Quest for the Holy Grill" is one of the funniest, most well-written travel guide/ restaurant review books I've read in a long time.
If you live in Maryland, Washington DC, or Virginia, you will find this book to be an invaluable tool to find great restaurants you may have overlooked in the past.
- After having visited one of the establishments reviewed, I thought it would be interesting to read of all such eateries listed in the book. Crummy can also serve up wonderful meals. I enjoyed Donovan Kelly's writing style and humor along with the pertinent information.
