  1. I bought this after looking through a dozen maps at the bookstore to use during a the few weeks that I visited DC.
It is basically a nice map with a 40 page booklet stapled to it.

I read the "guide"/booklet part of it which includes concise descriptions of the major highlights of DC; the depth of this guidebook is appropriate for those who are only going to spend a day or two touring or those that are supplementing with another guidebook (I liked DK's Eyewitness book with pictures). When I was done reviewing the "guide" part, I separated it from that map and travelled around with just the map part.

This map is very user friendly & informative: Words/colors are easy to read. It includes the Metro stops, famous buildings, & parks all superimposed on one easy to use folding map. I have been all over the city and found the location of these sites to be accurately marked on the map. Also, Adams-Morgan (north) and Rosslyn(west) are included. On the back side of the map is a schematic diagram of the entire Metro train system as well as a Washington DC regional road map.
Several people that live in DC have commented that it's a useful map.
Also, the map is laminated and very sturdy.

  1. Anything with the name Michelin tells me that it is well thought out and offers practical advice and information. This book is no exception to that rule. The Washington DC Green Guide is up-to-date for life in post-9-11 Washington. Helpful contact information, hours of operation and maps are included among neighborhood histories and in-depth museum information that will make you think you've already visited the places! My favorite feature of the book is the address and contact information. The embassies, museums, theatres, major shopping locales and other businesses are listed in an organized manner making it most helpful to make reservations or equipe you to handle any other inquiry you might have. Though its descriptions are ample and helpful as a native, I must admit, I noticed the absence of some insider tidbits with which I have become familiar in my decades living in the Capital City. There are a few historical establishments & restaurants (Old Ebbitts, for instance) which are not included. Overall though, I must give this book a high ranking because it is hard to wrap up our grand city in one book without having to be choosy about what is to be included and what should be left out. Though I live in DC and have all my life, I enjoy this book because it allows me to become aware of some features of our grand town which I may have previously overlooked. It is a great resource for visiting tourists as well and great for Washingtonians to keep on hand when they forsee out-of-town guests. The only thing that would make this book more useful were if it came with a Metro card!

  2. On a recent trip to Washington, DC, I brought along a copy of "Michelin The Green Guide Washington, DC." It was the first time I had used a guidebook in this wonderful city, which I have visited often over the years, spending much time in its extraordinary museums and the Smithsonian Institute. This updated, post 9/11, Micheline book really made a difference - opening up a new world, and saving me lots of time and money also.

The White House, the Capitol, the monuments and the federal memorials - from the glorious Lincoln Memorial, (which I always visit when in town), to the always moving Vietnam War and the impressive Korean War Memorials, the brilliant Phillips Collection and other museums, the Washington National Cathedral, etc., all come to life with historical insight, color photographs and Washington, DC maps, detailed and marked with fascinating walking tours. The Michelin Green Guide to Washington, DC is extremely practical and covers all aspects of a trip to this historic city, including the most interesting neighborhoods to wander through, and a variety of some of the best restaurants the town has to offer. Excursions from DC highlight the best of Alexandria and the Mount Vernon area in nearby Virginia.

    Highly recommended!

  1. This was the only map I took on my last trip to Washington, and it was all I needed. It was most helpful simply because it showed where all of the major sites are, and it had a separate map which focused on and around the Mall. Unlike most maps this one is durable and waterproof (luckily because it happened to rain one of the days I was there). This map was extremely helpful in every way. All I can possibly tell any prospective buyers is BUY IT! (And it's so inexpensive, too!)

  2. This is my second water-resistant Lonely Planet map, and I'm very disappointed with it. The color contrast is too pale, and the printing is too small. I won't use it for my trip, opting instead for a free map from AAA which is very good. Don't waste your money on this one.

  1. This book is a wonderful treat for both kids and their parents. The kids will enjoy the beautiful illustrations and text. Any who live or visit Washington can use the map for a treasure-hunt adventure, where they search for the animal monuments. Parents will be thrilled to read and explaln the poems to their children. Buy it!!!!

  2. Wild Washington is a wonderful guidebook and keepsake. Cathy Abramson has rendered some excellent illustrations of animal sculptures that are found in Washington, DC, and Nancy Arbuthnot's poems will delight every reader. The book provides photographs of DC's animal sculptures, the artists and their locations, along with some insightful information that makes a tour of Washington one to remember. Great for everyone who lives near or plans to visit our Nation's Capitol, this book would be of special interest to families with children. Wild Washington is a must have!

  3. Many thanks to Nancy Arbuthnot and Cathy Abramson for their marvelous book Wild Washington, a great combination of art and poetry and a creative collaboration of two intellectual minds. Through Nancy¡¦s lovely poems and Cathy¡¦s beautiful illustrations, I journeyed through Washington neighborhoods filled with amazing wildlife sculptures. I was amused when reading the poem entitled Vietnamese Ox as the authors may not realize that one still exists here in California (I was born in the year of the Ox-º). I definitely recommend this collection to all!

  1. I don't think there's any better place for kids to visit than DC. But, because it's not Disney World, not all the information is geared towards them. That's why this book is so great. It's perfect for my nephews (8 and 10) who, although quite intelligent, are not ready for Fodors quite yet. Plus, it has a lot of interesting stuff in it that I didn't know myself and I live in the area.

  2. Very good, both entertaining and informative. Really a good thing for first-time children visitors.

  3. We gave this book to our son for his 7th birthday to announce our trip to D.C. this summer. He has thoroughly enjoyed leafing through it and reading all the fun facts the authors included - some of it the oddball kind of stuff kids love. His favorite part is the map on pg. 30-31. He's already mapped out all of the places we'll be seeing. We are going to order another one for his cousin.
