5 comments about Betty and Pansy's Severe Queer Review of San Francisco.
  1. This was an excellent and very comprehensive review of everything (and I mean everything) about the gay scene in San Francisco. Unfortunately, it was written in 1996 and is now quite out of date and needs revision.

The chapters on the bars and sex clubs are good as are the chapters on restaurants and places to stay but call ahead - many of the places mentioned have closed.

Still worth buying - just be a little cautious before getting yourself into a compromising position.

  2. Betty and Pansy told it ALL! Everything was true! They saved me so much time in finding out the places I really wanted to be and sites I wanted to see. I only wish I had known of their review of New York before I went!

  3. As a former resident of SF, I thought it captured the mood of the city and I liked the sassy writing style.

  4. How could I not LOVE IT!!! I will proudly tell you that I am the "Naomi" named in the book and that every story about every place mentioned is absolutely true!! I even know who the others are that are nicknamed in the various chapters...so watch it. Betty goes to great lengths to bring you the real flavor and spin in the City. Her reviews are brutally honest and they set a high mark for those wishing to make a good impression. This book is must for all those coming to the City. I have even seen one queen reading her copy at the table in Zuni (the restaurant) and grilling the poor waiter/actor/model about all those mentioned in the review!! Grab a Copy Today.

  5. I travel to San Francisco every year and I "never leave home without Betty & Pansy"! They get down to the nitty gritty and give you a feel of what each venue is like and the customers who frequent it. The "Review" is indispensible for any gay or lesbian going to the city by the bay.

  1. I've been trying to get a copy of that calendar for a year now. A friend had it and pointed out to me the picture of the farm in winter. That is our farm! River Chase Equestrian Center. We love the picture as well as the others in the calendar. But, of course, that would be our favorite. So glad it's available, even a year later!

1 comments about Tidewater Virginia,.
  1. The so-called rivers of the Chesapeake Bay are really tidal by nature until they are blocked by falls of the highlands beyond. Paul Wilstach describes each starting with the first colony on the James and ending with Geo. Washington, and the nations new Capital on the Potomac. The cover provides the best description of the text that refers to the History of the area, its romantic Plantation Mansions, and the celebrated personages who gave it galmour. Five of the first seven presidents were born, raised to the level of prominence from Virginia so much of which comprises the tidewater. But that is just the beginning. Other famous beings owe their heritege to the wetlands of Tidewater Virginia, folks who left their mark either on the soil or "in it" since many were buried in the yards of the Plantations they developed. As a geography of such an important area, it is superb. Inside its cover is a map of Virginia that locates the major households and speaks of their importance and the contributions of the residents. I would consider it a must read for anyone captivated by the Revolutionary and Civil Wars because it gives such a great lay of the land, and description of the vicisitudes of the wars in that area. I was unfamiliar with it before, but the knowledge the book provides opened my eyes to the significance of the times and places of the Tidewater. Highly recommended, even to locals who may lack a sufficient knowledge of its importance to the American Nation.
