1. This is by far the best text devoted to the history of Arlington national cemetery I've seen. It begins with a detailed hisory of how the Washington-Lee family aquired the property, and the government seizure during the Civil war.. The property was used as a burial ground in part to prevent Robert E. Lee family from returning. The book goes on to list numerous notables now buried there and includes a brief but informative biography of each, most have pictures of the gravesite. Finally the book lists the many memorials inside and around the cemetery and the offical requirements for burial at Arlington.. A Fascinating book, I've read it several times and find something new every time I pick it up. Well worth purchasing for the history buff, or the casual tourist who wants to learn more about our most important national shrine.



2. I first found this book in it's first edition in 1994 after a trip to D.C. After picking it up from the library, I really wished that I had it when I was in D.C. I read it from cover to cover and learned so much about Arlington. I picked up the second edition during a visit to ANC in September, 2001. Every grave marker and memorial of renown is mentioned and the history behind the larger monuments is very good. It would be really nice if color pictures accompanied the text. I hope that Mr. Peters continues to update the book every now and then.

1. I was disappointed that this revision did not include the markers for county/city markers. Author did state they were in previous edition, but I don't have the previous edition.



2. Just an updated, but briefer, version of the original. The errors and omissions are appalling - it reads like a download of someone's ill-planned and poorly-researched website.



3. This edition of the VA marker guide includes all of the extant markers in the state, listed by city/county/region (rather than by marker number, as was the case in the previous two editions), and has a list of all of the county markers in the back of the book. Each marker entry reproduces the text as it appears on the actual marker (hence the inconsistencies of style and occasional "errors" which one of the other reviewers alludes to), as taken from the VDHR master list; in short, this is the definitive guide to the markers as you'll come across them, not a transcription of a random blogger's Web site . . .

1. This book is fantastic, I wore it out during my year and a half stay in Egypt and it was essential in planning a lot of my trips. In a land where bargaining rules you need to know the rules of the game and this book not only gave you tips to finding good bargains but also provided you with pretty accurate estimates to what the normal price would be (which is often not what the average tourist pays). I also enjoyed this book because the english spelling of arabic words was much closer to the spelling used in Egypt, this is not the case for other travel guides I've seen. One warning though, when I first read this book I was a bit afraid of what I might find in Egypt, but for the most part I learned that the negatives described in the book were worse case scenarios. Egypt is a fantastic place w/ too much to see, make sure you visit Dahab if you go!

I Order this Product on the 20 of April, and I have not receive it yet, not even a tracking or email, and this seller advertised that is suppose to be received by the 23rd of April, I am traveling on April 30, and because of them and misleading information i will be lost, in another words don't buy from this seller



4. couldn't get the newest edition before i left for egypt. some of the prices in here might be off. general sites and advice - excellent! added advice: any sites in luxor, go either really early or really late. ignore the people. for kahn el-kahlili in cairo, to get rid of peddlers, just keep walking. they won't follow you past the area in front of their store because it's the next store's territory.



5. Havent actually been to Egypt yet - but the guide is well laid out and easy to read. I think it will be very useful.
