1. I tried several of the backcountry lakes in this book last summer. I caught and released many limits of cutthroat and brook trouts. This book is great for finding fishing hot spots, and it taught me how to fish the various alpine waters. It is small enough to easily carry with me, and the maps are helpful.



2. I was a little disapointed with this book..Out of 106 pages it has only 24 that actually describe the lakes in the area. There are over 60 pages of hand drawn maps- that's what topo maps are for. Doesn't mention any streams that are worthwhile. THought it would have had more information.

2. Black and white photography is artistic, but doesn't do this area of the country justice.
   
   Also, I appreciate the author's concern for preserving the land, but government protection could quite possibly be the WORST way to do it because it brings in bus loads of the very people who will damage it. Just admire it from a book or ignore it.

1. The Mobil Travel Guide for California was invaluable for our recent trips on the California coast and to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. My past experience with other Mobil Travel Guides is that their information is complete and accurate. The ratings system for hotels and restaurants are reliable and will steer you to excellent values and quality establishments. Unless an establishment is brand new, it is a safe bet that it has not been included in the Guide for a reason. The Guide is especially helpful for families who are looking for a quality hotel room or meal for a reasonable price.

   We have used the maps in the Guide and it has helpful information for planning trips, including mileage and time between destinations. The individual listings of motels, hotels and restaurants give useful information regarding decor, amenities and pets. We moved our family and pets across country using the Mobil Guide to find hotels that accepted dogs in our price range. This is the finest resource for domestic travel that I have seen. I recommend that you buy it for planning your trip and don't forget to bring it along. We changed our travel plans in the Mojave desert and made reservations on our cell phone using the Mobil Guide to California and the West!




2. The guide has a nice layout, which makes things easy to find. Each section gives a general overview of what there is to do in an area; this is a great starting point if you are not familiar with the location. I think this would be a great asset to anyone traveling about in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah.

1. I used this book on a trip a couple of years ago and it was very valuable. The paper is a light grade so while the book is thick it is not heavy. If you are in a town of any decent size then there is info on what to eat, see, and where to stay. The maps are good and suggestions are too. I've read quite a few travel guides over the years and this series may be the best all around and best laid out of any of them. You might want to read more details before you leave but this is the one to carry along on the trip. I have not seen any new editions but I hope Foder's continues with this series.
