  1. This is the worst tape I have ever seen. It gives about 5 minutes of Venice and the rest with a travel agent about planning your trip.

  2. Rick Steves gives good, practical advice for traveling in Europe, right down to the packing tips. A friend who just returned from Italy said the crowds were unbelievable; Steves seeks out the places where the tour buses don't go, and gives tips on reducing costs for food and lodging (i.e., stay in a pension instead of a five-star hotel, and check out the local market for a picnic lunch). If you're looking for a comprehensive guide to The Art of Florence, get a Sister Wendy tape. Steves concentrates on the basics of traveling in Europe, and does it in a very entertaining way.

  3. We searched on Keyword "Venice" to buy a video in preparation for a return to Venice. We were roundly disappointed by this primer on travel in Europe which happened to have several short segments on Florence and venice. Poorly advertised, not poorly done. It is NOT a travelogue as much as a how to plan a trip lesson.

  4. This is a great video for someone who is actually planning a visit to Florence and Venice. It's also a fun video just to watch -- lots of scenes of Italians in action. Reviews that imply there is not much time spent on the cities are simply incorrect. The time spent in Venice and its islands totals 22 rich and well chosen minutes; Florence is equally well represented. There are about five minutes devoted to very good tips on planning your trip, and tips on overcoming the language barrier are scattered throughout the Florence section. I would recommend this tape highly to anyone planning their first visit to Venice and Florence! Rick Steves knows what he is talking about and he gets a lot of valuable information across, while treating the viewer to a fun and beautiful visit to these two wonderful cities.

  1. This is a great video for anyone who is planning a trip to Alaska and is thinking about riding on the AKRR. If you are looking to fly in a few days early before a cruise out of Seward, this tape gives some great places to visit. Spectacular footage of the railroad, glaciers and Kenai Fjords National Park.

  1. I came home from work and 'happened upon' this video on PBA. I was instantly fascinated by it all; the views , the history, the movement..both of the train and the story..I didn't want it to end, just like some of the the "real, live" passengers didn't want their journey to end. I quickly made a couple of decisions...firstly, to get my own copy of the video(done!) and secondly,to get on that train and go there someday. In short, it is a romantic, believable, luxurious, educational, inspiring adventure..for those who have been and want to go again, as well as for those(like me) who have yet to go there. By the way,If I only get this video as a travel vehicle, that might just be enough! So,put on something comfy, get your favorite beverage, turn off the phone..and have a wonderful trip!

  2. Saw this program on PBS last month. Have to have the video. (Can't wait for it to be delivered). The views, the train, everything seems so romantic. A must go trip. Sold out for 1999. I can't stop obsessing over this video!

  3. There is only one thing better than viewing this video... ...actually taking the train trip. My husband and I viewed the show on PBS not once but twice. We could not get the show out of our minds and made reservations for this particular trip (there are a number of different ones). Everyone I spoke to (116 aboard this fall of 1999) who made the journey had first seen this video before planning to take the tour.

Even if you cannot take the actual trip, buy the video and take an imaginary journey across the Rockies and into some of the most spectacular scenery you can ever imagine. Colorado Monument, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Columbia River Gorge in Portland, Oregon, are some of the sites you will view while you relax and dine on gourmet food.

One of the most romantic escapes you could ever dream of. It is a smorgasbord of sensory and gastronomical delights. The friendly train crew anticipates and takes care of your every need before you realize you have them.

This has to be one of the best travel videos ever produced. I am ordering one so I can revisit this fantastic trip any time I feel like having a great escape.

  4. Saw this video on PBS and knew immediately I had to take a trip on this beautiful train. The trip from Denver, CO to Portland, OR was sold out far in advance but other wonderful trips were offered. I chose the Pacific Coast Explorer from Seattle, WA to Los Angeles and the trip exceeded my expectations. The train is so beautifully restored and the gourmet food is superb! The train is a destination in itself.

  1. A Proud Heritage is a beautiful video. The presentation is clear and concise with a picturesque view of the country. I've enjoyed three trips to Poland and seeing this video brought back all of the lovely memories and makes me want to return.

Some of the places shown in the video are: the old town in Warsaw that had to be rebuilt after World War II; Chopin's home where you can sit in the garden on a Sunday and hear wonderful music that is performed by international musicians; the glorious Tatra mountains; the ancient city of Cracow that's filled with gorgeous cathedrals; Bialowieza which is one of the only virgin forests in Europe; and of course the beautiful rivers and countryside of Poland.

I've watched several videos on Poland and this is the best by far!

  1. I used to live near San Diego and I would visit there every years but when I first saw SanDiego Above All I Marveled on the city's greatness to attract many of Californians to this great city I Would recommend this tape to anyone who has ever wanted to see San Diego Above All

  2. Those of us who are transplants, are constantly looking for ways to lure our families west. This is a must buy for those last minute "increase the value of the holiday package" gifts. It's a great overview of SanDiego, very pleasant viewing. You don't have to see it all in one sitting. It's not really a story, but a lot of information covering major attractions (both natural and man-made) as well as the culture. Hoping my homeward-bound holiday packages will produce a fruitful 2002 of visitors.
Also good to have a copy for your own house - do a little "armchair touring": Save gas!

  1. Fantastic cast (JOHN SAXON, BASIL RATHBONE, JUDI MEREDITH, and DENNIS HOPPER.) This formula program uses a standard threat that you have seen from the old 50's sci-fi and even pops up now and then today. Check out the 1990 technology such as a reel-to-reel tape recorder of which many of today's viewers have never seen. If you only had $50,000 to make a movie you would bring your home tape recorder also.

In the year 1990 a technically advanced society has crash-landed on Mars just prior to our plans to go there. We sped up the process to see if we could help the survivors. I will not go into details however at one point the female alien (Florence Marly) looks up and find the female astronaut owns three male food containers and she is green with envy. What great threat can this being pose to earth? Worse still she seems to have her eye on a young Dennis Hopper.

    Reluctant Debutante - JOHN SAXON
