1. Mystic Lands--as respects the first part on Bhutan--is a great addition to the Living Eden tape, also about Bhutan. They both compliment each other since Living Eden is more about the land and nature. With this tape you get more focus on the actual Bhutanese peope. You see their faces, clothing, children and get a good glimpse of their colorful festivals. These are things I look forward to seeing when I visit next month for the first time. It will also probably be a nice synopsis of my trip to be able to review again with others on my return. Highly recommended by me AND my travel agent who viewed this as well.



2. In preparation for a trip to Bhutan, I have read all that is available (just about) on the Bhutanese form of the religion, but this gorgeous video brought it to life in an instant. I highly recommend it--my only complaint is that the Bhutan segment is only 25 minutes long--but it's worth every penny!

1. Justine Shapiro, whom you may remember from the Lonely Planet TV shows on the Travel Channel, does a tour of Germany that covers few of the "obvious" locations. Instead of focusing on big art museums and droning through church architecture, she visits a Hay Hotel (yes, you really sleep on bales of hay), and visits the Oktoberfest through the eyes of a waitress. Or, rather, through a server's arms; Justine gets a temporary job hauling beer to the patrons. (She can manage perhaps two beer steins where those strong German women easily manage eight.)
   
   The route takes her from Berlin (she interviews someone selling pieces of the Berlin wall) to nude beaches in Sylt to Munich. You see what it's like to travel by train in Germany better than in ANY other video I've watched. I wish I had seen it before my first train trip, because it removed all the intimidation.
   
   If you haven't been to Germany before, you *will* want to get a more general video. But you should also get this one! It's fun as well as instructive.



2. I spent 10 years in Germany. Even though I worked for the American government, most of my friends and work colleagues were German and I lived far away from any American community. I traveled widely all around Germany and other parts of Europe and I spoke passable German.
   
   This "documentary" was not very representative of any part of my life experience or travels in Germany. It wasn't even at tourist level relevance. Did any Germans have a chance to critique this before they made it? I doubt it.
   
   Pass on this one. It makes me kind of suspicious of the whole Globe Trekker series that they would put this poor representation out there.

1. Picked this up on a whim at the library. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Makes me want to visit the cities shown -- especially Seville and Grenada. Seems like such fun. And the host, Christina Chang, was very real and down-to-earth and shows us what we can experience in our travels if we are willing to just take a chance, have some fun, get away from the tourist attractions and explore those unbeaten paths. Educational and ultra-inspiring. Can't wait to view others.



2. Christina Cheng goes all over Southern Spain. She shows the best places to surf and hike, and the most interesting museums. Southern Spain off-the-beaten track looks fun. The architecture is neat, too. She shows the Alhambra.

1. Nice overview of Moscow in particular -- but this isn't intended to be incredibly educational. It's fairly goofy humor, but you do get to see some of Russia along the way. Nice little preview if you're on your way to Moscow. (It then also covers St. Petersburg & Murmansk.)
