1. I've been to Turkey and am heading back - this time though, I'll be leading a group. To help the group prepare, I've been putting together a list of recommended reading and viewing materials. This video is the best I've seen! It goes into enough detail and gives great visuals. It gives practical information while avoiding a dry academic approach. This is also a great video to help disarm unreasonable fears about heading some place so different from America. This tape will make you want to go to Turkey and will be a great reminder of the wonderful places you visited when you get back.



2. I bought this video because I am planning to visit Turkey in the near future. It gives a delightful overview of the country and encouraged my curiosity. A good video to preview your trip or to see whether you might be interested in exploring Turkey further. Lots of historical architecture, both human produced and natural. Fascinating history. Lots of artistic craftwork to buy.

1. I visited New York in February 2001, and for me it's a wonderful city. With this video, I remember my week in the city. I like this tape, because it's no a classical video tour of the Big Apple. I recommended to all people was visited New York, buy it. Thanks.



2. This is kind of a novice's attempt to capture the best of New York City. Having lived here all my life (nearly 4 decades) I can say with all honesty that this is just "okay" for tourists, and doesn't come near to capturing the essence of this great city. If I were considering a first time trip to New York, this video would not make me book my trip. Has some good coverage of famous places, but views more like a long commercial than a video. Save your money and just rent it from the library for free.

1. This video does a good job in explaining the variety of Balinese culture and geography. The pace and tempo kept me interested but the information was a bit shallow. But how much can one say in 1 hour on Bali. I've lived there since 1974 and reside also in California, when i do miss Bali I throw this video in the VCR to remind me of Bali

1. This is another amazing entry in the Lonely Planet television show. Justine returns to South Africa (where she lived as a child). Justine arrives in Capetown, South Africa and travels out to Robben Island -- where Nelson Mandela was jailed. While there she speaks with a man who was imprisoned in a the cell located directly across from Nelson Mandela's.

   Justine & the Lonely Planet crew show amazing sensitivity to racial issues and history of South Africa especially while visiting Durban, formerly a white dominated area and now a racial diverse township.

   Justine also travels to the east to the country of Lethoso and witnesses a rites of puberty ceremony for young boys. From Lethoso, Justine travels to Kruger National park where she sees the "big five": buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, & rhino

   This very personal journey for Justine ends in Soweto as she is able to connect with the woman who took care of her when she was a child.

   Also note that the VHS tapes of Lonely Planet episodes contain a couple more minutes of footage than the episodes that air on television.
