- I highly recommend this DVD for anyone who wants to travel to Alaska and get an early look at the scenary and what is awaiting. It is especially great for people like ourselves who are going to Alaska aboard a cruise ship because it provides great information on things to see and do at the various stops the cruise ship makes. From what I witnessed on this video I am taking lots of film and a 35MM camera to take lots and lots of pictures and $$$ to purchase souvenirs and gifts to bring back for family and friends.
- I got two different Alaska DVDs from the library for my elderly in-laws to watch. They have always wanted to go but probably will not make it there because of their health. We watched Discovering Alaska and Alaska's Inside Passage. Discovering Alaska had a lot of good information on the state, however the photography and colors were disappointing because we watched it after the other DVD - which had breathing color and views. Discovering Alaska seems really dated and looks like an old movie, with old cars in the shots, etc. (I'm surprised it is from 2001.)
Between the two, I personally prefered the Inside Passage DVD, however it is only about that one geographical area. I would watch Discovering Alaska again, or any other DVD that covers the interior portions of the state too, in addition to one about the cruise line routes. It's a huge and beautiful state with so many things to see and do!

1 comments about NOVA: Mountain of Ice.
- NOVA delivers another fantastic show with this Antarctic expedition to one of the Seven Summits! Granted, I am already a big fan of NOVA, let alone when they cover my favorite topics (mountaineering!) Featuring Conrad Anker, Jon Krakauer, Dave Hahn, and assorted crew, they lug hundreds of pounds of gear up a new route on the east side of Vinson Massif, which, at a gain of over 12,000 feet (to a final altitude of 16,077 feet,) is no small task. This informative production examines some of the history of the exploration of the Antarctic continent, and addresses the future with scientific observations of ice equilibrium, as it pertains to global climate change. Jon Krakauer (already well known for his writing,) provides an interesting perspective and valuable knowledge of the climbing and expedition process. There is some spectacular footage of Antarctica in here. My only critique is that I would like some extras, maybe some cutting-room floor footage as an additional feature. I definitely recommend this DVD, along with NOVA's other mountaineering productions, such as "Everest: The Death Zone," and "Deadly Ascent," which examines the effects of altitude on climbers (on Denali.)

- Hello, My name is James Knott and I am the producer of this video. It is about my experience traveling around the island of Okinawa. I just wanted to post the product description since I didn't see it elsewhere on Amazon. Below you can find the chapters that are on the DVD. Thanks for watching. Enjoy!
Tour of Okinawa
Okinawa is a sub-tropical island in southern Japan. Take a journey with James Knott as he explores the entire island from north to south and learns about this unique culture.
From the remote northernmost point of Hedo Misaki to the bustling traffic of Kokusai-Dori, no stone is left unturned.
Many different aspects of the culture are explored like the shisa dog, Okinawan bullfighting, musical traditions, the world's largest tug-of-war, Wildlife and family life.

1 comments about The Key West DVD - Bring the Island Home on DVD.
- The DVD is basically a tourist momento, of the sort that is often on permanent loop in booking offices at tourist locations and bought by people visiting for the day from cruise boats. It covers the history, people and character of Key West, but was a bit shallow in its treatment and I was left feeling unimpressed.
Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I'd hoped for a more in-depth coverage of some topics. Conch houses and their gardens could in themselves be the subject for an entire DVD, as could the history of wrecking. No mention at all of the railroad that was so important to opening up the Keys, or of the military history of the area (apart from a brief mention of the Dry Tortugas).
If you have been to Key West the DVD will make you feel nostalgic, and if you havn't been it might encourage you to go, but on the whole it was only of average quality. The narration was OK but not inspired, and the camerawork was pretty average.
