5 comments about Hellbound: Hellraiser 2.
  1. Can you die again in hell? Play a game with the Cenobites and you will find out. Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) is now in an insane asylum after her involvement with the Cenobites in the first Hellraiser movie. There's evil afoot in the asylum, in the form of Doctor Philip Channard (Kenneth Cranham). Instead of throwing away the mattress Julia Cotton (Clare Higgins) died on, Dr. Channard brings it to his home along with a mental patient, for the sole purpose of spilling fresh blood onto it. The fresh blood brings Julia back from hell, and she's thirsty for more. "All we need now ... is skin."

Meanwhile, Kirsty is receiving messages from her father, written in blood on her walls, telling her he's trapped in hell. Together with an autistic puzzle-solver named Tiffany (Imogen Boorman) Kirsty uses the Lemarchand's Box to enter hell, trying to save her father. But Tiffany has been used by Dr. Channard, and the good doctor finds his own hell.

While the movie focuses on Kirsty, Tiffany, and Dr. Channard's trials and travails in hell, it in no sense of the way becomes boring. The doctor wins over Pinhead in sheer grotesquerie, traveling through hell from a large gooey worm attached to his head and snakes with different talents extending from his palms. Julia shines as the evil temptress she is, unveiled in her hellish realm. At the center of hell is a diamond shape oracle, emitting a hellish negative-light that is fantastically frightening. Kirsty reveals insight into Pinhead, and Pinhead faces off with the good doctor.

This second installment in the Hellraiser series is directed this time by Tony Randel rather than Clive Barker, and contains much more graphic (if that's possible) scenes of what it would be like in hell. The creation of hell in this movie is pure genius. If this movie doesn't scare you straight, nothing will. Enjoy!

  2. I like the first one, don't get me wrong, it was just kinda slow moving. I love the visuals in the second, since it takes place in Hell. I like that we learn about Pinhead's origins and that Kirsty reminds him of who he is. I thought that scene was intense, especially the first time I saw the movie. Don't listen to people who say it was horrible, or who say it was fantastic. Its worth a rent for sure.

  3. Pinhead is back for more! I have not seen this movie in years, but I have been a big fan of the first 2 Hellraiser movies for years. It's cool to relive the story in DVD format and see the twisted mind of Clive Barker at work. I have no idea what he was thinking when he wrote these stories, but they are classic. Get this movie!

  4. Watched "hellraiser 2" last night. What a sick film full of graphic violence and torture - loved it! Makes films like "hostel" look like a family film. Visions of hell that make would make a christian fundy proud! Good story, solid acting and I love the cenobites. Although some of the special effects look dated it's still a great ride, highly recommended.

Oh, and if you think this stuff is sick you should read some of what those X'tian's made up in the bible! (and if you a christian reading this - shame on you, watch little house on the prarie or touched up by an angel or go pray for my soul or something!)

  5. The blood, gore, "the box", and the cenobites continue. The movie picks up right were the first one ended. Kirsty made a deal with Pinhead, who is the leader of the cenobites, to give them Uncle Frank (he escaped them) in exchange for her. After they took Frank, the female cenobite goes after Kirsty until she is able to use the box to send them all back to Helll. Her father's home then gets destroyed....

Kirsty is now in a psychiatrist's hospital. Dr. Chinnard is fascinated with the mind, the brain, and the other dimension. He was able to take the bloody bed with the chains in it from Kirsty's house. He also has the box which summons the cenobites. Chinnard unknowingly helps Kristy's stepmother Julia to escape the cenobites as she comes out of the bloody bed the way Frank looked in the first Hellraiser (all blood, bones, muscle but no skin). Together the conspire to get Julia back her skin and in return, Julia would show Dr. Chinnard, the other "place" including her god, the lord of flesh and desire; Leviathan. But she has other plans for him as well.

Kristy is hell bent (sorry for the pun) on trying to get her father out of hell as she sees a message in blood in her hospital room. With help from Chinnard's assistant, Kristy is able to get out of the hospital as Chinnard's assistant, Kyle was able to see that Kristy was telling the truth about the box and the demons it caries. Kristy learns that Pinhead as well as his cenobites use to be human. She finds a picture in Chinnard's house of Capt. Elliot Spencer (played by Doug Bradely) and belives it is Pinhead himself. Earily, one of the cenobites is a little child (I'm not going to give up the whole plot). Kristy, even though she didn't open the box, runs into her old "friends," the cenobites, who let her explore as Kristy and a mute girl who loves to solve puzzles are being chased by another demon (not going to give it away) with alternate plans. Pinhead is looking to "play" with Kirsty and get to know her flesh. He also stops his troops from killing her mute friend as Pinhead says," It is not curious hands that summon us, it's desire." As he points to Chinnard's secret room because Chinnard was using the mute girl as a gineau pig. This leads to the ultimate showdown between Pinhead and his troops against the other demon. Will Julia be able to do what Frank couldn't? Escape!

Julia had a great couple of lines when she faces off with Kirsty. "Come on Snow White! Take your best shot!" Who would of thought you would hear the words, Snow White, in Hellraiser (Hellraiser 2 to be exact)!

I thought Hellraiser was slightly weaker than the first one, third one (Hell on Earth) and the fourth one (Bloodlines). I was a little disappointed towards the end (not going to give it away). Don't get me wrong, it's still one of the best horror movies back in the time when horror movies relied more on acting than on special effects/CGI. Pinhead once again shines as the angel/demon of mercy looking to explore peoples flesh and desires while taking their souls. The way to dial his number is by solving the "box" which is known as the Lament Configuration. The boxes history is explained in more detail in Hellraiser: Bloodlines.

I would give this movie a 4.5 but still a great addition to your horror collection. The picture is great and no extras that would make you go, WOW!

  1. This is the best National Parks video I've ever seen. Breath taking scenery and incredibly clear filming.

  2. This DVD is indeed special. If you like Patrick O'Hearn and enjoy nature, you are about to experience a journey that will be shear joy from beginning to end. David Fortney has done some of this work in the past under a series of videos called "Earthscape" which are difficult to find but the comparison in quality with "Timeless" is day and night. If your are concern about global warming, this will show you what it can effect. This is a must for the whole family and pure inner healing.

    Toto - Miami, Fl

  3. It stands as a persistent source of strength to all of us who seek the companionship of nature around us. Without hesitation I can say I have found it uplifting and a marvellous source to reminisce visits to National Parks presented.

  4. I agree with other reviewers that the images and music are gorgeous. The landscapes are breathtakingly beautiful. Yet I want other buyers to realize what I didn't: many of the scenes are filmed with time-lapse photography. In other words, the clouds and shadows move across the landscape in accelerated motion. Some viewers will like this pace and won't mind that the naturally inspiring landscape has been altered. But for me, this created a sense of hurry and hectic rushing through time instead of the simplicity and calm of a real-time cinescape. Some of the chapters are presented at normal speed. These are the ones I find most enjoyable, and I only wish the talents who created this had let the natural beauty and their skills stand alone. Many will enjoy this film as it is. I had expected a simpler version of nature.

  5. Truly relaxing nature scenes with great cinematography. Most programs trying this do not come close. Highly recommended. A great follow up to
the genre started by Natural States and True North, but done with up to date filming techniques.

  1. Great movie to make your brain do backflips. While cheaply made (as you can see in the DVD special features), it is incredibly deep and mind-melting in plot. Keeps you on the edge of your seat if you like an intelligent "WTF is going on" type movie that will keep you confused yet excited.

  2. Given the complex nature of the script... i thought that listening to the director commentary would clear some things up... because even though I've seen it about 3 times, i still don't have all the clones straight... so I bought the DVD...

Surprise!... there's two commentary tracks, none of which talk about the plot, or clear up any of the time travel permutations!!! Both commentaries talk about camera angles, how much that prop cost, how many hours of sleep they got while shooting... "see that guy sitting on that chair, that's my brother"... gee, thanks...

Don't buy this DVD if you want to get insight into the plot... because they deliberately DO NOT talk about the plot points (on both commentary tracks)... as the commentary rolls on, I just kept getting more and more frustrated and angry... PLS STOP TELLING ME ABOUT THE FILMSTOCK AND LOCATIONS... NONE OF IT IS INTERSTING... AND ITS NOT WHAT YOUR FANS WANT TO HEAR ABOUT!!!

By the end of the commentary, i ejected the dvd and threw it at my wall.

  3. This movie has an interesting concept. But if you like watching paint dry then you will love this slow moving uneventful drama. I recommend this movie before buying sleeping pills.

Another thing! Don't these guys change their clothes? Even at a party they wore the same shirt and tie! Then they go to work in the same shirt and tie.

I wish these guys would have traveled back in time and killed themselves because maybe this torturous movie would not have been made.

  4. This movie really isn't a movie... it really doesn't work as a satire... but it truly is a great experience. At its core it really is.... a primer. It's a glance at the what/how/whys of the discovery of time travel. All the elements are there. And it is truly intended to give you no answers (after all... it's not called "Conclusions").

My first viewing of Primer was on IFC, and I started watching it 15 minutes into it. I ended that viewing angry above all else. I decided there must have been something I missed in that first 15 minutes that ties it all together.

So I watched it again, in its entirety. And then I began to understand.

Primer goes through the process of discovery... what can be considered a REAL scientific discovery. Which is actually not convenient to a movie format. But they do it, and leave it raw, with the crosstalk, tedious explanations, and egotistical posturing that goes along with any engineer who thinks they're right (believe me... it happens).

Then after discovery, it delves into the human condition. Wanting to exploit it for profit, then considering the moral implications, then devolving into the selfishness of trying to play god.

And the way it is filmed, as things progress, there are intentional gaps as timelines become more blurred and disconnected. This makes Primer incredibly original, and great fun to play with the possibilities.

It truly stimulates the mind, and gives you something to walk away with and think about for days after viewing. THIS is a measure of a great film. And when you think about the spirit of the film, its budget constraints, it makes Primer a must see.

If you are an engineer, or know engineers, you owe it to yourself, or them, to see Primer.

  5. Hated it! When I have to turn on subtitles for an American film to have the slightest idea of what is going on, then something's wrong in my book. This talky, nowhere film may have an appeal to some, but I vehemently hated it. Sundance Award or no Sundance Award, "Primer" would have never won in my book.
