- This is the most beautiful video and music sequence I have ever seen. A stunning audio/video presentation. The producers should be commended for their efforts.
The Australian Outback DVD is awe-inspiring. Michael Scott Lees is one of the best landscape photgraphers Australia has ever known and Rivertribe Music is breathtaking. I whole heartedly recommend this program. You will be blown away by the wonders of Australia and its diverse landscape.
- The photos are beautiful, but they're stills, not video footage. That gives this DVD the feel of a coffee table book set to music. The music is moving and appropriately spiritual, but the experience feels bounded by the photo frames. I didn't get a feel of the real Outback - more a glossy set of postcards. As a homesick Australian, I was disappointed.
- This is a slide show presentation of some pictures of Australia - the Outback is a misnomer as the rainforest in Queensland is included along with a number of ocean beach pictures. The Outback is the outback NOT the coast line of Australa or the tropical Rain Forest.
None of the pictures are labeled so you have absolutely no idea where they were taken and the slide show is accompanied by some ecletic music which is a further distraction.
I would give it zero stars if I could. This slide show would be much better presented in a book - not sitting in front of a TV with the camera zooming in or out on the same still picture and then going to the next one.
I have been to Australia and am familiar with the Alice Springs area and the tropical rainforst in Queensland as well as many other locations in this beautiful country. This is not the way to see Australia. There are many excellent books with photographs at least as good (if not better) than those shown here and you can turn the pages at will staying on one picture as long as you want. In a book they tell you where the picture was taken - no idea while viewing this slide show and I found nothing in the enclosed material that gave you that information.
A total and complete disappointment.
Richard

- I purchased this video in Feb 2007 with the intention of using it to help plan my trip to PEI in 2008. While the DVD case and the DVD both clearly say "Running time: 1hr, 30min", the video is actually only about 23 minutes long. The info is good, but not very detailed at all! I was very disappointed. I paid $12.99 for the DVD, but I think that's way too high for only 23 minutes of information. In my opinion, anyone would be better off spending their time looking up information on the internet or investing in a good book on PEI.
- I'm also disappointed a little. It's just a 23 minute long video... It's too short. And why it states on the disc and on the case it's 1h 30 min. long? :(

1 comments about Music in High Places - Unwritten Law (Live in Yellowstone).
- I wasn't a fan of Unwritten Law. In fact I hadn't heard of them. I saw the show on VH1, loved the music, then got the disc. I like the simplicity of the music against the backdrop of Yellowstone. I was surprised to learn they are a punk band after seeing the show. I plan on taking a trip west to Yellowstone as soon as I save up some cashola. I'll probably get another cd of Unwritten Law in the meantime.

2 comments about Globe Trekker: Pacific NW USA (WA & OR) DVD Format.
- I purchased this dvd for my boyfriend who currently lives in Toronto. He was coming out to visit me in Portland, Oregon, and had not been to the Pacific NW in more than 20 years. I wanted him to get a preview of my part of the world so he could be prepared and know what he was getting into. He is planning to relocate here next spring.
He watched the dvd and said he enjoyed it, but that there wasn't that much coverage of Portland. He did find the Mount Hood raiload section alluring and memorable.
- I saw this show on Public Television and saved it for a friend to watch during their visit with us. That's how pleased I was with it.
Lots is covered: eco-conscious Oregon and Mt. Hood, coffee-loving Seattle and the fish-throwing in Pike Place Market, driving the coast with bikers and our likeable guide even climbs to the summit of Mt. St. Helens!
He spends time with Native Americans in La Push; attempts a number of the crazy local things, for instance, in the logging town of Hoquiam for the annual "Logger's Playday" he enters a log rolling competition, ax-throwing contest and other "gotta do it once" type of things.
My absolute favorite part is, once our guide is in Oregon, he hires a driver to fly/drive him through the famous sand dunes. The driver said that he sometimes reaches a speed of 60mph on the sand!
We'll be visiting the dunes in about one week, thanks to this program!

2 comments about American Cultural History African Americans.
- In the world I live in the idea that blacks are equal to whites is taken for granted. I've never really seen hardcore racism in my lifetime.
Of course, I've read in history books about the civil rights movement and slavery, so I ordered this disk in order to try to learn more.
All I can say is that it was a real learning experience. The DVD consists of a series of films documenting the state of the African American experience in America from the depression up unil the early 1970s and it was much bleaker than I thought.
What made the disk not too depressing for me was the clips about how black people were still able to be happy and work to overcome the great wrongs society was doing to them.
- Some sociologists say that in America all racism is White Racism. In other words, any black racism is a reaction to what whites have done to blacks over the years. This DVD makes that case in a very striking way, but showing us older documentary footage of blacks in America speaking about their experiences trying to live the American dream. It's heartbreaking to see what we have done to these people over the years, but also heartwarming to see American Blacks work hard to overcome the racist barriers in their lives.

3 comments about The Red Stuff - The True Story of the Russian Race for Space.
- Interestly the DVD surprised me with the ommission of Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova the first women in space there was no mention of her except in passing WHY?,it would been nice to see the film footage of her in training and in space,to add a further insult they mentioned the first dog in space with film footage but not her???.Other that that this DVD has put a piece of puzzle together about the Russian Space program that was hidden from the west and also the Russian public.,I would have like to see more interviews with some of the other Cosmonauts and find out what happened to some of the one's that washed out of the program .The interviews are candid and they talk about some of the problem with the program .The added bonus is a documentary about Yuri Gargain that is worth the price of this DVD..I give 4 stars because of the ommision of Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova.I hope the producers go back and update this DVD.
- I was quite looking forward to this material (VHS)expecting some consolidated story of the early soviet manned programms. Date of release -2003- evoked the hope of seeing rare footages because the story is quite well known - not only never secret propaganda films from triumphal welcome of cosmonauts by top rank party leaders. I am heavily disapointed. The "story" is a compilation of several inteviews with first soviet cosmonauts revealing nothing new, not even K.Feoktistov's dislike of Comunist Party and G.Titov's not being happy not getting the first Vostok seat. The footages used are not always related to Vostok, using Soyuz footage when speaking of Vostok is really for beginners only. Author's added commentary on last moments of V.Komarov (screaming, accusing ...) is based on fairy tale, interestingly, here he did not bother to ask the interviewed cosmonauts.
The bonus part of the tape, The Starman, the life story of Y.Gagarin, is at least a content story using original footages from Vostok programm. On the other hand, majority of interviewed people remained nameless, you see somebody speak but you do not know who it is.
If you want to know the true story of the soviet early manned space program read better some books, you find a lot of excellent ones in Amazon. This compilation is far from it ...
