- I purchased this video in Feb 2007 with the intention of using it to help plan my trip to PEI in 2008. While the DVD case and the DVD both clearly say "Running time: 1hr, 30min", the video is actually only about 23 minutes long. The info is good, but not very detailed at all! I was very disappointed. I paid $12.99 for the DVD, but I think that's way too high for only 23 minutes of information. In my opinion, anyone would be better off spending their time looking up information on the internet or investing in a good book on PEI.
- I'm also disappointed a little. It's just a 23 minute long video... It's too short. And why it states on the disc and on the case it's 1h 30 min. long? :(

- On the comfort scale, these train rides are one step above the Central America train rides. Those riders who choose to ride on top of the cars (with the conductor, no less) obviously have a limited sense of what's dangerous. You will learn a little history as you visit old Inca sites, and will get acquainted with mighty old steam locomotives. These trains aren't ritzy, but your chances of surviving the ride is better than with the Central America trains.
- In typical TWBT format, covers trains in six countries, approx. 10 minutes each. Time for a few quick glimpses of the depot, the train itself, some passengers, and a few scenic views; then on to the next country. Excellent video and audio quality, including many overhead helicopter shots. Starts in Ecuador, then to Brazil and south, including Macchu Picchu. Ends with the "Patagonia Express," a steam train publicized by Paul Theroux; typically, the DVD shows this train arriving at its destination at night missing all the scenery in the area. Really a "sampler" of the subjects covered, providing only tantalizing glimpses of several potentially fascinating rail trips.

5 comments about Music in High Places - BBMak (Live in Vietnam).
- I definately think it is a great video, because you get to see Christian, Mark and Ste just acting "normal". It was fun just to see how crazy those guys are!! They performed songs how they did before they got a record deal, just with one or two guitars. They sound amazing, and they sing about 6 songs including Still On Your Side, Back Here, and Ghost Of You And Me. Plus, need I mention the fact that they show Mark and Ste shirtless?!?! Comeon, that's a reason to get it right there!!
- This dvd shows why BBMak is heads above other "boy bands" -- for one, these guys can actually sing, and secondly, two of them can actually play guitar. I like the stripped-down versions of their songs here better than on their cd. A nice bonus is that you can watch/listen to just the music performances, skipping the sound effects and tourist commentary in-between songs.
Oh, the guys are still handsome, too...particularly Christian with his beautiful eyes. The dvd features DD 5.1 and DD 2.0 mixes. A minor complaint, but it would have been nice to have had a PCM stereo track. The strangest thing about this dvd is Mark wearing a "M*A*S*H 4077" t-shirt during some of their touring. I don't know what his thinking was behind that, but it seems insensitive to me.
- "Music in High Places - BBMak (Life in Vietnam)" is a nice show showcasing the talents of British band, BBMak in the beautiful country of Vietnam. Not only is the music nice, but it's complimented by the enchanting backdrops of the countryside. The BBMak guys perform everywhere from a forest to a cave. This is definitely great for BBMak fans, but I would also suggest it to others who want to listen to music while looking at some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
- I used to be a fan of BBMak when they first got popular in the U.S. but then all of the sudden, the band just kinda disappeared. So I stopped listening to their music until I found out about this DVD. I was interested in the DVD right the way as I am a Vietnamese myself. This is one of my very first purchases on Amazon.com.
First, this is a great DVD for all the BBMak fans. They're truly talented individuals, each of them can really sing. Just 2 guitars and 3 vocals, they have put up a great show. Well, let's talk more about this show. If you're like me expecting a concert crowded with fans, then you would be a little bit disappointed at first when u play the DVD. There're just performances done in serveral locations in Vietnam by BBMak with absolutely nobody around. But just think for a second, this is a "Music In High Places" DVD, so people from there would be like "poor" maybe!? Lots of them wouldn't know much about popular music or just foreign music in general. I doubt that a lot of people from the locations BBMak was shooted knew who BBMak are.
Second, still, this is a great DVD for BBMak fans. Besides being so talented, they're really nice people. I couldn't think anybody would enjoy places like that in Vietnam, especially a so sucessful band like BBMak. But they really appriciated what they were shown to, the history, the people and all. There're a lot of behind the sences, interviews and some of the history about some places in Vietnam. So yeah, all the BBMak fans should have this DVD as well as all the other music fans.
Note: What you see from this DVD is not all how Vietnam is really like. I'm from Hanoi, the capital of the country and it's much different from the places that are shown on this DVD. I would really like people to know how beautiful my city is but it seems like people from other countries are only interested in the poor/nature places, it's kinda sad.
And Gosh, people from there speak much better English than the 2 ladies on the DVD. It is sooooo embarrassing for me to watch the DVD with a friend. I feel bad for BBMak because those two just talked, talked and talked to get their jobs done. They didn't care if it would make any sense...
I would still give this DVD 5 stars because asides from my personal frustrations, this is truly a great DVD. So, go get it, people!
- I enjoyed the senary of Vietnam, looked hot and humid as I am sure it was ; )
And the guys in BBMak were pretty good too; they sounded great, played wonderfully, and harmonised super! The only thing that would have made this DVD better would have been more songs, but the 9 or so songs are more than plenty to enjoy! And they are some of the best ones! Perticularly, "Ghost of You and Me" performed in this huge marble cave! The acoustics were amazing! You could just tell while the guys were singing, that they were being blown away by it too. Thus were singing their hearts out!
A very good hour and 20 minutes watch. I'd recommend this to anyone; BBMak lover or not.

2 comments about Globe Trekker: Pacific NW USA (WA & OR) DVD Format.
- I purchased this dvd for my boyfriend who currently lives in Toronto. He was coming out to visit me in Portland, Oregon, and had not been to the Pacific NW in more than 20 years. I wanted him to get a preview of my part of the world so he could be prepared and know what he was getting into. He is planning to relocate here next spring.
He watched the dvd and said he enjoyed it, but that there wasn't that much coverage of Portland. He did find the Mount Hood raiload section alluring and memorable.
- I saw this show on Public Television and saved it for a friend to watch during their visit with us. That's how pleased I was with it.
Lots is covered: eco-conscious Oregon and Mt. Hood, coffee-loving Seattle and the fish-throwing in Pike Place Market, driving the coast with bikers and our likeable guide even climbs to the summit of Mt. St. Helens!
He spends time with Native Americans in La Push; attempts a number of the crazy local things, for instance, in the logging town of Hoquiam for the annual "Logger's Playday" he enters a log rolling competition, ax-throwing contest and other "gotta do it once" type of things.
My absolute favorite part is, once our guide is in Oregon, he hires a driver to fly/drive him through the famous sand dunes. The driver said that he sometimes reaches a speed of 60mph on the sand!
We'll be visiting the dunes in about one week, thanks to this program!
