4 comments about Video Visits: Discovering Ireland.
- In preparation for a trip to Ireland I bought this DVD and found it to be above many other travel programs with information and presentation. The content shows areas including Dublin, Waterford, Ring of Kerry, Aran Islands, Derry and Belfast, stressing historical and natural places. The narrative tells where you are and sections out special interests like horse racing, crystal, medieval banquets, and Irish music. There are two extras on Ireland's National Parks and the Galway Christmas Choir. This DVD is not an advertisement for hotels or restaurants. It is an excellent general overview of an interesting and very special land, with very good audio and picture quality. I'm very glad I bought it and hope to find more from this same company on other travel areas.
- A nice look at Ireland before the tech and cultural boom of the last decade.
- I was more than pleasantly surprised to watch this DVD...I own four other Ireland DVDs and this is the best one by far. It is produced by Questar and is very professionally done, with stunning photography, a great overview of both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, with an emphasis on natural beauty and scenery, with just enough historical info to be interesting, but not bore you with a history lesson! The narrator has a pleasant and interesting voice, the music is subdued and lovely, is not intrusive or distracting from the photography, but accompanies it beautifully. The time passes far too quickly. The main feature is about 1 hr. twenty five min. the bonus feature on the National Parks of Ireland is great and lasts about 25 min. The bonus footage of the Galway Christmas Choir is good if you like that sort of thing...it's something you don't see every day. Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone. It is a great deal..for $13.99. I will be getting a couple more for gifts to friends. I also recommend The Magnificent Scenery of Ireland as my second favorite.
- I was pleasantly surprised by this DVD. The photography and editing is excellent, and the organization is logical (coverage starts in Dublin, then moves south and west, then up the west coast, etc.). I've visited Ireland three times, and the DVD covers a lot of sites/sights I'd seen on my trips, but also contains some "new" material. Now I want to go back!
For the price this is probably the best deal if you're looking for a good overview of the sights and landscape of Ireland. If you've never been to Ireland, it will give you a good feel for the country; and if you've already visited Ireland, you can reminisce about familiar sights and places. Highly recommended!

5 comments about Jeanne and the Perfect Guy.
- i have seen this film 3 times...and everytime i have beenimpressed. the film covers a range of topics but focuses in on a girlwho cannot decide between men until the moment she falls upon mr.right. the movie covers gay issues, aids, sex, love, and compassion. iabsolutely recommend this film to everyone.
- Wow. I've never seen a musical that covered so many issues: AIDs, Sex, Gay-Issues, Love. "Jeanne and the Perfect Guy" is a wonderful French musical about a woman who really loves sex, but finally falls in love, only to find that the object of her affection has AIDs. This musical is not only a splendid tale of love and angst, but is also a beautiful musical, with a moveing score and a lead actress who is beyond compare. Virginie Ledoyen matches an incomparable beauty with a lovely voice and a superb talent. She makes this musical the Perfect Movie.
- This show is delightful in its honesty and refreshing in its candour. The characters in the show, though somewhat lacking in actual ability to sing, carry the storyline, which tends to be thin, through with their innocence and energy. A very watchable film with catchy tunes and an attractive cast.
- Often reminder of Indian movies where characters sing and dance periodically even in tragic situation, this one still succeeded in its own candor. Talented actress Virginie Ledoyen is a natural charmer in her role.
- My advice is to skip this French movie musical and get Jacques Demy's "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" and "The Young Girls of Rochefort" instead. This movie is clearly an homage to the Demy films (to the point of casting his son as the leading man, even though he doesn't really fit the type), but "Jeanne and the Perfect Guy" lacks the charm and the visual inventiveness of the Demy films. The best thing about the movie is Virginie Ledoyen, who is as beautiful and appealing as the young Catherine Deneuve was in Demy's most popular films. The worst thing is the music. It's downright awful and the mediocre songs only made me aware of how important Michel Legrand's score were to Jacques Demy's films and the importance of a good score to any movie musical in general. I'm sure the filmmakers heart was in the right place (especially in their efforts to bring topics like immigration and AIDS to the musical genre), but their musical and visual execution falls short.

5 comments about Discovery Atlas: Italy Revealed [HD DVD].
- Disc will not work with the 360 hd dvd player. Returned the product and received a similar non-functioning disc.
- I received this HD DVD twice. Both were defective as neither would even boot.
- Despite other comments posted here, I had no difficulty playing this disc in my Toshiba A20 HD player. The video is absolutely stunning in HD. The travelogue revolves around the lives of several people from different areas of Italy in today's world. I highly recommend this video to anyone interested in Italian travel or learning about today's Italy.
- This is worth watching in HD for the stunning photography alone.
Contrary to some reviews, there is nothing wrong with the disc. Certain HD-DVD players have firmware bugs which have been fixed in newer versions, that keep them from showing several titles including this one. Connect your HD-DVD player to the internet and run the update utility under Settings.
- Read the reviews about this disk not working. Figured they were old reviews and had fixed the problems. Very disappointed in that they are still selling this defective disk. Brand new XBox HD DVD player refuses to boot with this.

1 comments about Passport to Europe with Samantha Brown - Episode 16: Simply Paris.
- I enjoyed the DVD but too short and it needed more details of exactly what to do for the little things, subway tickets, money exchange ect. She was very cute and fun to watch her spunky show but too short and needed more meat.

5 comments about Music in High Places - Wynonna Live in Venice.
- I do like Wynonna, really I do, but the other Music In High Places (MIHP) series has a level of interaction with the venue that I found lacking in this edition. There wasn't much in the way of shopping or the culture or the interaction with the locals that I find so attractive about this series. She did have a duet (of sorts) with a local musician but that's really as far as this goes. MIHP is a music travel adventure series and while this has music and travel, this particular episode is lacking in the adventure department. The Goo Goo Dolls mudsliding and playing on a Glacier was adventure. Collective Soul on camels was adventure. Unwritten Law in a Rodeo Arena with cattle and horses running rings was adventure. Sugar Ray hopping around molten lava in Hawaii was adventure. This one, if not for the music (Wynnona is always good) doesn't have much travel adventure to it. Italy is beautiful, but it's not a "High Place" in this series.
- Although the title is a little misleading (it's not a live concert as the title might suggest), the music is just wonderful. Wynonna sings many of her hits with just acoustic guitar accompaniment, and her rich, full, soulful voice is beautifully highlighted in each song. I wish there were more songs on this DVD, but for the price, this DVD certainly gives good value to any serious Wynonna fan. And the footage of rural Italy is just lovely.
- Great movie! I recommend this to any Wynonna fan. Its just her,Kim, Vicki, Robert and 2 guitarist. All of the music is sung outdoors In Italy. All of the songs are great, but I love No One Else On Earth, Only Love, and How Great Thou Art. Her voice is just amazing.
- A moving compilation of "Country Music" sung by Wynonna &
band in the romantic beauty of Venice,Italy.
A religious woman,Wynonna was unable to visit the "Holy Land"
due to war.Instead she felt
she was directed to Italy,a place her late grandfather prophetically told her,she would someday visit and sing.
She reflects on on many memories while visiting a 700 year
old Church. Her rendition in the Church,of "How Great Though Art",is both mystical and moving.
Wynonna stated her singing brought her close to God in Italy.
Even if you are not a "Country &Western Fan ,the scenery
combined with all the music will lift your soul.
- Having been somewhat...bored by Wynonna since Don Potter ceased being her main musical director - especially after seeing her live - I was all set to purchase this DVD for my Wife for her birthday, and just sort of "leave the room" or something when it was on. W-R-O-N-G!!! This truly IS "Wynonna Unplugged," and with Italy as a backdrop - whew, the DVD is one of the few DVD's that've held my interest all-the-way-thru since..um..."the Criterion refurbishing of 'Gimme Shelter'," or something. Just Wy, two acoustic guitarists and an acoustic bassist (and Thank The Lord for her singers, Robert & Vicky!!!). Yes, I could have lived w/o her weepy moments where she..."reflects" on recent events, but the music - WOW. INCREDIBLE. And BTW, we also have that "Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert (1992)" DVD, and we were wondering who this singer, Zucchero, was - he's on here, evidentally, an opera singer of some sort (!), and just to see/hear him "jam" with Wy & her band on the-best-song-of-her-third-solo-CD, "Somebody To Love You," is itself worth the price of the DVD. Yes, I freely admit that I liked Wy much MUCH better before Her Mama got sick and Wy started singing (ulp) "adult contemporary," but "Wynonna Live In Venice" is incredible. No slick production, no "stings," just Wy and her singers and band - unplugged. You can't ask for much more. OH, and their version of "How Great Thou Art," sung/performed in a chapel or monastery or something made me want to disclaim every snide comment I've ever made about (sic) "Contemporary" Christian music, too.

3 comments about Globe Trekker: London.
- This is one of the few Globe Trekker shows I did not like. It seemed rushed. They used two hosts on this show which caused them to bounce back and forth loosing plot lines. But the good points are great video shots of the beautiful and exciting city of London. The DVD is worth that alone.
- I love the Globe Trekker shows and London is no exception. I go to London a couple times a year on business and always find the city fascinating. Globe Trekker does a good job of covering the main highlights of the city as well as some of the lesserknown areas. It jumps back and forth between presenters as does the NY City Guide, but I think it works to have two different view points of the city.
- Very good for basic info on London. Wish they could have spent a little more time at each destination. Video could have been a little longer. Overall, a good product.
