1. The DVD is basically a tourist momento, of the sort that is often on permanent loop in booking offices at tourist locations and bought by people visiting for the day from cruise boats. It covers the history, people and character of Key West, but was a bit shallow in its treatment and I was left feeling unimpressed.
   
   Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I'd hoped for a more in-depth coverage of some topics. Conch houses and their gardens could in themselves be the subject for an entire DVD, as could the history of wrecking. No mention at all of the railroad that was so important to opening up the Keys, or of the military history of the area (apart from a brief mention of the Dry Tortugas).
   
   If you have been to Key West the DVD will make you feel nostalgic, and if you havn't been it might encourage you to go, but on the whole it was only of average quality. The narration was OK but not inspired, and the camerawork was pretty average.

1. Like the Natural States DVD, I had bought this DVD to replace my aging VHS tape. Therefore my review has basically the same comments and complaints. The music is great, the video is very grainy, I would have thought that they might have tried to clean it up a bit for the DVD. Another weird thing they did was to use titles for the chapters that seem to have NO relation to the song the video was made for. In other words on the VHS the tracks are named for the song as they are on the CD, on the DVD they have "other" names, so if you are used to the VHS or CD names you won't see them on the chapter list. It would have been real nice had they kept the original song titles from the CD and VHS to be used as the Chapter Titles on the DVD. This applies to Natural States as well as Desert Vision.



2. I have the original VCR tape and ordered the DVD thinking that whoever did the conversion would have done a better job with the video. I still love the music but I will probably just use as a CD not video as the video quality is sadly degraded. I could have gotten the same quality using Dazzle to convert the video.

1. As people talk about racism in America it seems like we mostly talk about the divide between blacks and whites. Yet, through American history racism has taken on many, many different forms.
   
   This DVD made me realize that America treated the Japanese - even our out citizens - very badly during World War II. I didn't know that we put them into camps, took away their rights etc...
   
   The most amazing track on the DVD is a government propoganda film that defends putting innocent Japanese people into internment camps. It's shocking.
   
   Then you get to see the bombing of Hiroshima which is just horrific.
   
   This is a brave title to release.



2. Watching this DVD made me realize how the more things change the more they stay the same. What we are doing in gitmo with teh detainies is exactly, aparently, what we did with the Japanese during World War II. This documentary really made me think as it explains the process of interning Japanese Americans in camps during World War II. It's frightening, not just becuase it happened then, but becuase similar things are happening now.
