2 comments about Lisbon, Portugal.
- This is a short video, only about 30 minutes, and it gives a condensed overview of Lisbon. While it does whet the appetite and remind me of the time I lived in Portugal, I wonder who taught the narrator how to pronounce the Portuguese names for places and things. This is so common with well-intentioned people who enjoy travel but who have no ear for foreign languages. His pronunciation of Alfama and fado made me giggle as I tried to figure out what he was saying. All that said Lisbon is a beautiful city and the Portuguese are wonderful people, just don't try to pronounce anything the way the narrator does and you'll be OK.
- This DVD doesn't satisfy you if you once have visited to Lisbon.
Although its title is Lisbon, it has few places to visit and I can't get interesting enough information for traveling there again.
Maybe you can choose another one which will let you smile.
Try to search it!
Boa noite!

2 comments about The West Country - A Guided Tour of Southwest England.
- This is a delightful and informative Travelog that is also a relaxing trip to England's West Country. It is smoothly presented with good photography as well as an unintrusive background narrative that is delivered in a pleasant voice.
Best of all there is no ego-ridden, self-promoting face in every scene, stuffing himself with food and talking to the natives in an effort to entertain himself more than his viewers. This DVD makes a really nice armchair visit to an interesting part of Britain and I sincerely hope to see more just like this one showing us other parts of England in just such manner. As a dedicated anglophile who has traveled freqently in the West Country, I find that I don't really need to "hear" the guide, so sometimes I turn off the sound and use the changing scenery as "wallpaper" while I read. It is nice to glance up from my book and see the Exeter cathedral or Dartmoor -- and it almost makes me feel as though my living room window opens onto one of my favorite parts of England.
- this was a nice little visit to the west country. i had read susan allen toth's books and found that this covered some of the places i had read about in her books. i enjoyed that.

This is either 1/5 if you are looking for a quality rating, or 4/5 if you flip it upside down and watch this b-movie that way too.
Truly awful in a really wonderful way. When they finished filming, the director said, "post-production? Whassat?"
The thing is a patchwork quilt of completely unrelated scenes and plot lines. Switch from computer expert analyzing a strange audio signal, to two crew members passing each other in the hall and, "smootchie, smootchie... lets have totall non-commital, non physical, mental sex." Cut somewhere else where something "evil" is happening, then back to the "smootchie, smootchie." In fact, a common theme through the entire movie is "bad guys, space walk, evil robot... meanwhile back at Spaceship A'moure"... we-ve GOT to find that red button... YAY!"
Gads.
One thing I'll give it is that in just two places, they have a great "special effect" that is really kinda mesmerizing: it's nothing more than a highly solarized "alien planet panorama" where the huge "sister planet" looms up over the mountain ridge and they pan across the plain. The "solarization" effect (don;'t know what you really call it - it's just a highly color distorted/heavy static view) is really kinda solemn and captivating.
This movie stinks like a rose. Whaddaya expect when you buy it on a DVD of four complete sci-fi movies for a dollar at Walmart? This movie isn't even worth fixing my typos in this review.
Next up: "Assignment Outer Space." I'll let you know.
