  1. Certainly this hour-long documentary covers the basic facts of several Irish authors' lives, and there are beautiful images of Ireland, especially Dublin, throughout, but it lacks the essential joy and spirit of some of the very writers it profiles. It feels more like the kind of documentary your school teachers forced you to endure. There are no interviews with scholars, relatives, or even people of local color.

My hunch is the transfer is from VHS that was recorded from a film copy -- the audio is raspy and the images are a bit muddy and full of artifacts.

It's a decent documentary, but not particularly memorable.

  2. "Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping
    Than you can understand."
    ~William Butler Yeats

When you read a poem, often you have to imagine the area of the world that inspired the poetic beauty and mood. Now with this inspirational and engaging journey, you can see the landscape that brought dreams to life. This is a visual tour of a land that inspired W.B. Yeats, Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, James Joyce and Swift.

This is a story of a love affair with literature and a romantic land of languishing lakes and rolling hills. The visual aspects alone are worth the price, but the beauty of the countryside sets a stage for the background of each Irish writer.

We learn of exciting romances, the original meaning for Yahoo, why Oscar Wilde probably enjoyed dressing the way he did, love letters, and evidence of the passion writers in the past experienced.

The best part of this journey for me was seeing the landscape that inspired Yeats and his poetry. I also loved all the painted doors that added such charm to the houses.

    ~The Rebecca Review

  1. This is a very nice overview of the featured national parks, highlighting what to see, where to go, giving you a historical background (with old pictures and documents as well as commentaries), geological and biological information on the natural wonders in the parks. Definitely a good resource to prepare your visit to one of America's most beautiful parks...

  1. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3248M0ZBJ80Y8 I love LA and have been looking for something that captures the city and the feel of living here, this does it. The beach life, the freeways, Catalina, downtown, Hollywood, I could go on... Well done to the makers of this. We use it when we have get togethers and let it play, people always ask about it, so I have started buying them as gifts for all my out of town guests, make them jealous of what they are missing. I recommend it!

  2. where does it say its a travellogue? i bought this DVD knowing it was a background visual, which i use for background displays at conferences. i also saw it in a few LA based hotels and resturants. good utility if used properly.

  3. I thought it was a documentary about LA that I could show friends that come and visit me. Instead, it's just music with (great) pics of the city...but that's it. I guess you can put it in if you have a party...for some ambience. But besides that, it's completely useless. At least for me...

  1. This movie will keep the kids entertained time and again. I thought that it might be low on production values but I was pleasantly surprised. The story evolves around a would be magician who comes across a ring that once belonged to the famed Merlin. Johnny, with the aid of the ring, manages to make his sister really dissappear. He enlists the aid of his best friend and his TV magician idol to venture back in time so that he may learn how to bring his sister back before his parents find out.

This movie is recommended as suitable film for kids of all ages.

  2. An evil being Malfeasor (Michael Ansara) has taken over Camelot. Merlin (Ian Abercrombie) sends a ring into the future time to bring back a hero to free the land. The ring instead comes in to the possession of Johnny (Toran Caudell) a would-be child magician. Johnny inadvertently makes his sister disappear, so instead of a hero, he goes back in time with a lush has-been TV magician Blackmoor (Russ Tamblyn.) Now Merlin must rely on those two and a local child of his time Sprout (Amber Tamblyn.)
Will the three of them equal the hero that never showed?
Will the trio make a "Joseph Campbell's Heroes Journey?"
Will this be enough to sober up Blackmoor?
Or will every thing go awry leaving Glenn (Patrick Renna) to take the place of Jonny's sister for ever.

This movie is a fair after noon special with all the elements that go into the making of it has flashes to two different stories happening parallel in two different worlds one being an over glorified mythic time in history with kids having to deal with evil adults and the other be an over simplified modern time with kids having to deal with kids and ignorant adults.

  3. a fantastic comedy that blends traditional stage magic with the fantasy of medival wizards. Johnny Mysto dreams of being the world greatest kid magician and gets his chance when he travels back in time to help Merlin in Camelot. This a great movie that remains on my dvd wish list.

  4. well since i stared in this movie (10 years ago) i can't really say that it's bad, but it's also not fenomenal, it's just an average movie suitable for kidz aged bet. 7-12 yr old. there were more scenes in this movie that for some reason haven't been included in this final version, and i really don't know why...since it took us whole days to shoot, but oh well.....bottom line is for its price the movie is better than most, even better than some highly publicized hollywood movies.

  1. I saw this movie on cable TV. The R-rated version. I've heard there is an unrated and even a X-rated version of this movie. This movie is really dumb with the pure objective of showing chicks take thier clothes off and dance around or have sex. The problem is as soon as a chick even begins to think about taking off her shirt the screen fades to black. The chicks in this movie are super hot. Nikki Fritz is in this movie! But I'm not kidding...almost all "T" and "A" has been cut out of the R-rated version. You'd be better off closing your eyes and dreaming than to watch this movie. Please don't waste your money. Hopefully the uncut version will be out for sell soon.

  2. I just want people to be aware that this DVD release from Shadow contains the R rated version, which is a badly butchered version of the original unrated version. The unrated version is not available on DVD.

  1. Fascinating - If you've ever thought of immigrating to Australia, this dvd will give you some great insight to the wonderful world of Oz. It's very hard to find good destination guides - this is one is a find!

  2. I was really looking forward to watching this DVD on the land down under, what a disappointment. The film footage is incredibly weak, so dated it seems to have been made in the early 80's. The quality is also poor, with the picture being so grainy I wish I would have bought the video over the DVD so I wouldnt feel as bad about wasting the money. The content overall is mediocre but it was mostly like watching a bad commercial, doing no justice to an amazing country.

  3. The material is old and the sections are very short. It's helpful to see some basic footage of each area but it's worthless for trip planning or meaningful information.

  4. AUSTRALIA THE BEAUTIFUL
    DISCOVERING AUSTRALIA
AUSTRALIA - THE LAND BEYOND TIME

These movies are all informative, and Australia itself is of course gorgeous. Some people seem to think the only things in Australia are kangaroos, koalas, Aborigines, Crocodile Dundee, and Steve Irwin feeding his baby to the crocodiles. Students in China will ask you "What is the weather like in Australia?" as if a country roughly the size of China or the USA has the same weather from east to west and north to south. These films will show you otherwise, but it is annoying that I can't find a single DVD about Australia made by Australians. These are distinctly American, even though the third has a British narrator.

  5. not enough time spent on viewing places before changing to next place more like watching a slide could not reccomend have given 3 for picture and sound quality only but thank byou for your excellent service

  1. I bought this $15 video as I LOVED Lucca, Italy. Truly one of the nicest places on Earth...but only found out as I started watching it....that it is only 10 MINUTES long! What a disappointment. The quality of the show is not that good and doesn't show the true beauty of Lucca. I would not recommend this video and plan on returning it....but come on, TEN MINUTES? What a joke!
