5 comments about Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers - Chained.
- Okay, the only reason I am giving this 4 stars is because the production house for Koch Vision didn't do a quality control check and screwed up doing the menu authoring on the master file.
So.... when you hit play for play all eps, it skips Chained and doesn't think it exists. You can get it to play if you go to the Episodes menu and then select Chained. The other problem came in trying to get it to play Smuggler's Gauntlet from that menu. That could be something I was doing, but it didn't seem to work for me.
Other than that, the episodes are crystal clear and super sharp and the audio - full stereo!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!
Chained - good ep & good introduction for the Black Hole Gang. Midnet - Killbane's & trying to prove he's better than Goose (again) and you get to see another hint of the Goose & Niko romance. Smuggler's Gauntlet - nothing like a car chase with guns a-blazing in Tortuna. Birds of a Feather - lots of humrous moments and I wonder if this is the last we see of Bubblehead - he's great for comic relief. He & Doc play off each other so well. :)
I am still puzzling over Sir Robert's selection of order on this, but I won't complain too much, since we are getting our show on DVD finally. (Thank you, Koch Vision, Sir Robert & LordPink for all the work on this!)
Now, this has been talked about on the Ranger-L Listserv and I do have to agree with it - we need a GR soundtrack!!! I hope from what I've been told, that it will come out with the boxed set, but why do we have to wait for it??? :-p
((Come on, Sir Robert - you should drop in on the Listserv - they'd love to hear from you!! http://bruinhilda.dreamstation.com/list.html has the instructions on how to join. *g*))
- I've always loved the Galaxy Rangers, its one of my most favorite cartoons of that decade. This dvd has four episode: Chained, Mindnet, Smuggler's Gaunlet and Birds of a Feather . This dvd is great for all its cowboy space adventures. If you are a fan of great action cartoons, this is one of the best.
- One of the few "Space Cartoons" that actually got it. Galaxy Rangers should be the model for any future space western, live or animated! I hope that I'll get to see this series again on the cartoon channel or elsewhere. Simply the best type.
- This is one of the best cartoons made in its day. The music was effective, great stories and characters. There is a lot of detail, just not in the animation.
- I also loved this tv show from the start, there is something about the cowboy mixed with science, different from any other show out there with likable characters. But they need to release the whole series instead of angering their very loyal fans with re releases of the few VHS tapes on DVD. Just release a full box set, people will buy them.

5 comments about Destination Travel Guide: China.
- We originally bought this for Homeschooling to go along with a unit study on China. We loved it. The guides take you through the culture as they show you how to travel on your own. Such as buying train tickets, how to upgrade your ticket to a sleeper car (and what they looked like), asking for directions, showing what type of rooms to stay in, and the typical foods they eat, including dog and snakes. They ride the trains (playing typical card games with the locals), riding bikes (to see sites), tips as they take taxis or to bargain in the markets. We would recommend this anyone getting ready to travel to China
- Continuing in the backpacker tradition, the GT team walks along the beaten and some not so well beaten paths. The trip into the village where women wear horns is fascinating. The team manages to go to many out of the way places in the Southwest and Central which is the primary focus of the DVD.
Covering China in a travel video is certainly not easy, but this DVD does a decent job of getting you interested to learn more. The walk through a train they ride in is fun. Practice your karaoke! I knocked the video down 1 star because I don't feel the team conveyed enough of how annoying or difficult traveling around China can be. A few examples might be the huge crowds and automobiles experienced in many places which might just be simply overwhelming (I speak Chinese too) or the heavy pollution (From coal plants and rapid increase in auto usage) which can making breathing difficult / aggravate your sinuses (Beijing). One of my gripes with the way information is conveyed on some GT videos is the sense that going from one place to another is so easy and effortless - it isn't. I speak from experience after having traveled to many places.
On a personal note - 2 years ago I visited one of the places shown in the video - Huangshan (Yellow Mountains). I can attest to personally how difficult it is to get a good photo of the grandeur. Apparently the video team had a hard time too as they state. Somes places you just have to visit yourself. I also stayed at a hotel (Great view) right across from the hostel the GT team stayed at in Shanghai. I walked inside and it is definitely as portrayed on the video. Lots of history.
- Though I too am fluent in Mandarin Chinese this video was a delight and brought back many interested yet exciting experiences while traveling in and around China. The team did a great job in getting as much information in as possible for the time allowed this video and it is quite enough information that can be applied for a first time traveler to China. China is not an easy place to get around, nor the language easy to master, but there is no need to be scared off, the Chinese are as eager to get to know you as you are them! Enjoy China!!!
- Good program and a great view of REAL CHINA. Little biased but good work. Three stars for the effort. Those guys doing GLOBE TREKKER should start to be less BIASED about places and people. Give the impression they are better and superior...
- Since we have a daughter who was born in China I thought this would be an excellent dvd to show her birth country. Like the other reviewers I liked most of the dvd, but I couldn't get past the 2 annoying hosts. Both really should not have done this video, to me in my eyes they where your typical tourist making fun of food that is normal food for people in China and is different to those of us who don't live in China as well as other little annoying things. I just couldn't get past the hosts... maybe you can.
This dvd features Southwest part of China including provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan & Guizhou and Guangxi and then the central part of China - Shanghai, Yangzi River, Xi'an and the Yellow Mountains. It also includes a Long Horn Miao Ceremony, Huangguoshu Waterfall, Giant Panda, a silk factory and the terracotta warriors.

- "Gay Getaways"
Gay TV Travelogue on DVD
Amos Lassen
Ariztical Entertainment is releasing a TV series on DVD, "Gay Getaways". It is fun to watch especially if you are planning a trip to the West Cast. Host, Greg Osborne, sets out to visit and report on some of the coolest gay places all over the world. This first installment is about California as it looks at Los Angeles and Palm Springs. We get valuable information about hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, night life, spas and other things of interest. He also tells us about the fun things there are to do.
This is a very sleekly produced travelogue and Greg Osborne seems to know what he is talking about. Watching the DVD is almost as good as being there. Osborne has wonderful delivery and brings the information to us. It is interesting that a TV show of this kind would make it to commercial DVDs. The information is valuable and very interesting. Here is a must for anyone who likes to travel.

2 comments about Frenchman's Farm.
- After seeing this one on the shelf in the video store's horror section in the late 80's, I was at first impressed that this one got released on DVD and decided to give it a try. But this exercise in boredom deserved to stay buried in video obscurity; I would think even the most diehard horror fan alive would have a hard time staying awake during this one.
For what it's worth, the story: a girl goes driving in the Australian countryside and her car breaks down. Inexplicably, time starts moving backwards and she ends up in the 1940's, where she witnesses a goreless decapitation. She gets chased by the murderer, manages to start her car again, and zaps back to the present. Of course, no one will believe her story, so she begins a long, drawn-out process of investigating to prove it.
This is more of a lame mystery than a horror movie. There's no gore and no real scares. The killer (the Frenchman) is pretty sinister-looking when he does appear, but he has limited minutes here. Many scenes are too dark to make out details, which seems to be a combination of poor lighting when shooting, and the fact that no real remastering of the movie seems to have been done. I would think owning this on video (if you had to) would result in the same picture quality. The extras on the DVD's are weak as well.
So save your money. If you want cheesy 80's horror that's at least entertaining, try Pieces, Humanoids from the Deep, Mother's Day, My Bloody Valentine...jeez, pick a movie at random and it's bound to be better than Frenchman's Farm.
- Superbly filmed, well made, very creepy, and exceptionally interesting for a horror movie.
None of the silliness that infects so many horror films, no explosions, boring car chases at high speeds with guns being fired all over the place.
Thank goodness! Just a highly absorbing tale with nice touches of horror, and a truly chilling ghost in the flashback sequences.
It starts off almost as though it's going to be one of those science fiction movies where one is taken back in time, in this case to the 1940s where the heroine of the movie sees a murder committed and then finds herself back in the present day, where she sets about solving the mystery that she encounters when researching what she saw in the time warp flashback.
I never lost interest once througout the movie. Very good indeed!
Some questions left remaining at the end, but all in all, a very effective
film, I would have liked it to have gone on for longer, and the ghost looks truly malevolent.
