- Wowie wow-wow! Nature's splendor. Watch this DVD and only superlatives will come to your heart and mind to describe some of nature's best. You're at the famed Big Sur coast - one of the most spectacular areas in the U.S., exploring & taking in all the marvelous sights. You get views that you would see as if you were there, only better! I used to go down to Big Sur from Monterey and there are some special scenes I was never lucky enough to witness myself, as creatures have their own time schedule. This DVD is a culmination of many trips and hours spent capturing Big Sur shoreline and it's critters. Something for everyone. Fantastic and entertaining footage of irresistable sea otters, awesome whales, quiet harbor seals with the babes, fiery monarch butterflies, tranquil flowers, stately redwoods, Pt. Sur Lighthouse.....too much to mention. Experience many different visuals of the majestic coastline complete with pounding waves through rocks and waterfalls that meet the ocean as well as the green serenity of the coastal redwoods. The much photographed Bixby Bridge, arial shots, sunrise and sunsets to knock your socks off! The Big Sur area is world famous and you get to view a compilation of the very best of it. This DVD will fill up your senses. If you've been there, recapture the wistful memories. If you haven't been there - you will yearn to go there. Need to destress, relax and take in beauty? Wisely choose this DVD. The quality of this DVD is unsurpassed in honoring that which is Big Sur.
- I feel really fortunate to own this great piece of art. I am a local of monterey county and have ventured the georgeous Big Sur coastline many times but seldom captured any of its wonderous beauties in little more than memories. This DVD is a great way for me to calmly relax and revisit many of my favorite places, see wonderous new places, view some of nature's subtle tranquility that often gets overlooked, and witness some awesome things that I have never been fortunate enough to experience in my locale (like the double breaching of a pair of whales!). Whether you are looking for something soothing to relax to, beautiful background imagery for your home or business, or a memoir of the place your live or visited, you will find this DVD to be a treasured item in your collection!
If you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out this studio's other great work:Monterey: Surreel Moments
- This DVD is worth owning. Watching the breathtaking scenery reminds me of how fortunate I am to live in this area. When I watch this DVD it is almost like I am actually there. I get mesmerized by the spectacular beauty of God's wonderful creation. I get a real kick out of watching the critters on this DVD. If you purchase this DVD, I am confident that you will be pleased with it.
- Surreal Moments captures all the beauty of Big Sur in a way I never thought possible. It really brings back all the good times I've had hiking around that area. I highly recommend it if you want to relive all of your Big Sur memories, or if you want to see one of the most beautiful parts of the world without leaving your home. Fantastic job!!

1 comments about Global Treasures LOUVRE Musee Du Louvre Palais Du Louvre France.
- This is easily the worst travel video of all time.
One telling example is the Venus de Milo segment. This begins with a full screen title "Aphrodite...Venus de Milo" while the narrator reads "One of the most famous treasures is the perfectly formed statue of Aphrodite, better known as Venus de Milo." However, the video images throughout this segment are of Winged Victory. We never see Venus de Milo.
The editing is poor. As the narrator describes a David painting, the video moves to a Watteau painting. The camera work is shaky and frequently crops the tops of art works.
There are numerous other errors:
> The number of exhibits in the Louvre is wildly exaggerated
> The names of French kings are laughable
> The history of how the Mona Lisa came to the Louvre is simple wrong
The length is only 10 minutes, thankfully.
So poor is this DVD that I will be returning it to Amazon immediately.

2 comments about Globe Trekker: Pacific NW USA (WA & OR) DVD Format.
- I purchased this dvd for my boyfriend who currently lives in Toronto. He was coming out to visit me in Portland, Oregon, and had not been to the Pacific NW in more than 20 years. I wanted him to get a preview of my part of the world so he could be prepared and know what he was getting into. He is planning to relocate here next spring.
He watched the dvd and said he enjoyed it, but that there wasn't that much coverage of Portland. He did find the Mount Hood raiload section alluring and memorable.
- I saw this show on Public Television and saved it for a friend to watch during their visit with us. That's how pleased I was with it.
Lots is covered: eco-conscious Oregon and Mt. Hood, coffee-loving Seattle and the fish-throwing in Pike Place Market, driving the coast with bikers and our likeable guide even climbs to the summit of Mt. St. Helens!
He spends time with Native Americans in La Push; attempts a number of the crazy local things, for instance, in the logging town of Hoquiam for the annual "Logger's Playday" he enters a log rolling competition, ax-throwing contest and other "gotta do it once" type of things.
My absolute favorite part is, once our guide is in Oregon, he hires a driver to fly/drive him through the famous sand dunes. The driver said that he sometimes reaches a speed of 60mph on the sand!
We'll be visiting the dunes in about one week, thanks to this program!

- "Bump! The Ultimate Travel Companion: Mexico"
Gay and Lesbian Travel
Amos Lassen
Alluvial Filmworks is responsible for some of the best new gay and lesbian movies lately. Now they give us "Bump!" a DVD recording of the very successful travel series which began broadcasting on Canadian TV three seasons ago. It not only tells you where and how to travel, it entertains immensely.
Charlie David, who many of us will recognize from Here! TV's "Dante's Cove" takes on a tour of gay Mexico in a way that even those who have traveled south of the border have not experienced. We go to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta as well as Mexico City and the outskirts. In Puerto Vallarta, we relax on the beaches of gay paradise and visit an island gay resort, ride horseback, go shopping, eat, eat and eat and finally dance the night away in a really great dance club.
Cancun with its gay friendly attitude is both luxurious and tropical and very, very beautiful. For lack of a better word, the gay beach is divine and the dining is beyond comparison (at least to Arkansas). We visit a spa and have a wonderful time and swimming with the dolphins is a treat. Of course, there is wonderful shopping.
In and around Mexico City is also great fun and the tour there includes a visit to the home of Frida Kahlo and a drop in to the gay neighborhood before taking off to visit an Aztec pyramid.. Charlie lets us witness a meeting he has with lesbian author Paulina Gomez and fashion designer Ernesto Hernandez. We also get to meet the famous drag queen, Tito Vasconcelos.
This is the Mexico that gay dreams are made of and Charlie David is the dream of a guy to take us on tour. Watching the DVD is one of the best vacations I have ever had.

5 comments about Amazing Thailand.
- I would like to thank Mr. Polluck for his review of my film, Amazing Thailand. I appreciate the fact that he gave the film three stars.
He pointed out in his review that I mispronounced several Thai names and misidentified a location in Pattaya. In response, there are many ways to pronounce Thai words and I have never heard a Westerner pronounce ANY Thai word the exact same way the Thai's do. I have learned in my ten visits to Thailand that simply making an effort to correctly pronounce the word will put a smile on the face of any Thai.
As for the Walking Street issue, I acknowledge and apologize for this small error. If you look close enough, you will find mistakes in any film, book or article.
Anyway, thanks for reviewing the film and happy traveling!
Mike Shiley,
Director and Producer
Amazing Thailand
- I am Thai and I believe that this documentary (or travel diary) was made from the heart of someone who took extensive efforts to learn and assimilate another culture. At least it was the feeling that I got. Someone made an issue of Thai words being mis-pronounced. The pronounciation was not perfect, but I knew exactly what he was referring to. Getting the correct tone is difficult. However, I do not see it as bad pronounciation, but rather as a testimony to the extent that someone has taken to even pronounce it as good as it was pronounced given that the narrator was not a native Thai speaker. Good job and I wished that people would see the effort as opposed to trying to find imperfections in something so distant from the intent of the film. All world travelers will enjoy the personal approach. If you expected Hollywood, then this may not be for you. This is a film made from the heart for true-hearted travelers.
- Summer 2006 planning a trip to Thailand we purchased several guidebooks and DVD's. While this DVD was more expensive than some others we purchased it was by far the best. Very informative with nice video segments. I agree with another reviewer that the thai words and titiles were spoken with a terrible accent however it was still an outstanding video. Well worth the price. Our Thailand vacation was an incredible trip. In addition to purchasing guidebooks I suggest reading Wikitravel Thailand on-line for extra travel information.
- Amazing Thailand is a pretty good resource. We have planned a trip to Tailand and it was useful in deciding where to spend our time.
- Why pay first rate for a fourth rate production? The video is largely overexposed, and the Thailand that you get to see is basically one trip taken by one person. So, if HE didn't happen to film it on THIS trip, it won't be there. And, of course, no aerial or underwater shots...they take money and talent. A better title would be "How I Spent Your Money Taking A Trip in Some Small Part of Thailand."
