5 comments about Streetwise Atlanta Map - Laminated City Street Map of Atlanta, Georgia.
- I really hate this map.
It does not have all teh areas of Atlanta. I like the Rand Mcnally map coated with plastic one. Dont buy this one. It just doesnot have enough details. Buy the Rand Mcnally plastic coated one. Also dont buy Rand Mcnally paper map if you llive in Atlanta. It will get torn very soon.
- It is ok for the traveler, but probably you will never will use it. If you have to, you are really lost..
- Unless you are looking for a detailed map of only a narrow strip of central Atlanta, you will find this map just about useless. I wanted a map to help me find my way around the city and this map does not include very much of Atlanta. It is very narrow in scope. On the flip side of the main map there is a smaller map (about 6"x8")of the metropolitan area which includes the Interstates and main arteries but little other detail. This map is a waste of money if you want to see all of Atlanta. I do not recommend it and wish I had not wasted my money on it.
- Streetwise maps do not present many streets so they are not very wise regarding streets or anything else. Avoid. The older Gousha Fastmaps were by far the best laminated travel city maps available but no longer seem to be produced, so we're stuck with Rand McNally EasyFinders, which are better than the Streetwise maps--but it would be hard not to produce a map better than those.
- I LOVE Streetwise maps, but they are best for tight, walkable cities like London or Montreal. Their detailed formula is great for the pedestrian. The trouble with Atlanta is that it's so spread out, all of the interesting neighborhoods that a tourist may visit are not necessarily close together. So what you get is a large map on one side that's not detailed enough to be useful (and honestly still not large enough to encompass all Atlanta offers) and a map of Downtown, which is woefully inadequate since Downtown is only part of the typical Atlanta experience. It's just not a useful map.

4 comments about So You Want to Move to Florida: How to Save Time and Money in Becoming a Resident and Exploring Florida's Treasures Your Guide to Securing Your Dreams in Florida.
- I read the book. I've been to Florida. This book has great information.
- The contents of Farnham's guide is essential for anyone seriously considering relocation. The invaluable information he provides gives the positives and negatives of living in Florida. Read this practical book about day-to-day life in Florida if you're thinking of moving to paradise. Many helpful pointers which has already made my life simpler. Jam-packed with simple, crisp declarative sentences that makes reading the book both interesting and easy.
- I read this book and liked it. There is a lot of stuff about Florida that I wouldn't have thought to consider when making a decision to move there. There are many differences than other areas of the U.S. For example, most houses don't have a basement, so you better keep that in mind if you need the space. In addition to the practical move information, there is a number of chapters on recreation (Weekend trips, Key West, Parks, Beaches etc). This would probably also be useful to current residents.
- What a terrific resource. Lots of useful and practical information about relocating to Florida, all in one place. It includes lots of personal observations and enough anecdotes to keep the reading breezy and enjoyable. I will refer to this before AND after the move!

1 comments about Wallpaper City Guide: Sao Paulo (Wallpaper City Guide).
- This little guide should not be used as your primary guide when going to Sao Paulo. There are basically no informative maps in it, the information is outdated, and most of the places it recommends are for those who have trust funds or are on the expense account (yes, even in Sao Paulo). Its reviews are entertaining but it lacks vital information that most tourists need to get around and acquainted with the city.

1 comments about Faces of Latin America: Updated.
- Green does a fantastic job of presenting an overview of the history and culture of Latin America. The books contains many photographs of the region. It is an easy read and a good place to start if you're interested in Latin America and don't want to get too bogged down with historical details.

2 comments about Insight Fleximap Costa Rica (Insight Fleximaps).
- This map is laminated and therefore waterproof. Being laminated does not interfere with the usefulness of the map. This map is great for showing sites worth visiting (i.e interesting tourist type places and their location on the map). If you are going to buy one map for Costa Rica this would be the map you would want. I recommend, however, buying two maps: this one and then the Globetrotter Travel Map of Costa Rica. The Globetrotter map is much larger and therefore shows more detail, but it doesn't show where specific tourist sites are located which is why I recommend buying both.
- This map is of high-quality laminant and would likely survive fire and flood. But, the designers superimposed a "layer" (as in PhotoShop lingo) of terrain symbology underneath, rendering the roads, numbers and names of towns almost illegible, even in adequate light, for this 57 year-old with bifocals.
I can just imagine bouncing down the rutted secondary roads of Costa Rica at dusk, wondering "where in Heavens name am I?"
There are many better maps out there.

5 comments about In Trouble Again: A Journey Between Orinoco and the Amazon.
- Madcap and hilarious, this is a travel book written by a travel writer like no other. The natural history of the Venezuelan jungle, combined with an eclectic mix of characters so goofy and improbable as to seem fictional, told by a man who, if he wasn't already a science writer, would have made a nice addition to the Monty Python crew.
It's amazing that Mr. O'Hanlon is still alive, but I'm glad he is. I'm most definitely looking forward to reading some more of his adventures.
- Reading Redmond O'Hanlon is like going on the worst camping trip ever, (bees, mosquitoes, ants, snakes and cannibals) without leaving your own living room. O'Hanlon has such a gentle way of describing the worst possible situations as though they were just par. I am glad I don't have to wade up piranha infested waters, but I am glad he did and lived to tell the tale.
Endearing. After reading this book I went and found all his previous and current publications. He gets better and better.
- dry british humor. The funniest passage ever written may be Simon's tirade when he has had enough and tells O'Hanlon he wants out of this miserable trip. O'Hanlon is the master of travel gone bad.
- Redmond O'Hanlon is a good travel writer, bringing the reader into his canoe as he faces a torrent of dangers and unpleasant situations. His British humour is very well placed in presenting some of the absurb situations he gets himself into. Especially with Simon as his sidekick (which gives the reader a somewhat normal view of things), the story is quite captivating.
However, some of his descriptions and stories did leave me with the feeling that he may have augmented the danger of situations to make the story more interesting. He also blew up the stupidity of some characters, giving in to what sounds like basic stereotypes of indians and the fears white people have of indians.
Overall, this is a decent book. If you are into Amazon travel, this is a nice adition. However, if you just want an intro to the Amazon through the eyes of an adventurer, there are better books, such as David Campbell's (1st person, more scientific pop writing with lyrical qualities) or Candice Millard's (old travel, relating Roosevelt's exploration in the Amazon).
- "In Trouble Again" by Redmond O'Hanlon is a book about exotic travel, exploration and adventure in the remote Amazon jungle and along its rivers.
O'Hanlon continues the flourishing line of eccentric English explorers who did so much to penetrate the far reaches of the known world a century or so ago - and indeed into the middle of the 20th century. To a man (and, with a few notable exceptions, they were mostly men) they relished hardship, discomfort and danger in the hope of extending the range of human knowledge of the physical and living worlds - and testing their own limits in the process.
It is a pity that similar challenges are disappearing for young men today, although not entirely as this book proves. O'Hanlons adventures would not have been out of place in the 19th century, yet the expedition described in the book took place in the mid-1980s.
The book describes O'Hanlon's expedition into the remote Amazonas jungle of Venezuela. Although the term "expedition" is perhaps too strong a term to describe a trip with idiosyncratic guides and companions that frequently went awry. He also encounters frightening animals and inhabitants. As a treat, the Yanomami inserted a long blowpipe into his nostrils and blew in yoppo, a mind-altering drug, during an evening hanging out in one of their villages. He met the dreaded assassin beetle, carrier of Chagas Disease.
However, the misadventures are very entertaining. O'Hanlon woke one morning to find his testicles looking like a bunch of green grapes. They were covered in ticks from a tapir killed the previous evening for food. Apparently some ticks migrate to the genitals of a new host because they have learned that the genitals are the only part of the body that a tapir will not scrape against a tree to dislodge parasites.
Anyone who has travelled down the Amazon and into its jungles as a conventional tourist will recognise many of the things described in the book: palm trees covered in long thorns, eating piranhas, the sounds of frogs, fire ants, curare arrows and much more. I highly recommend reading the book either before or after undertaking such a trip.

5 comments about Spark Your Dream.
- This story of a couple in love following their dream is an inspiration to everyone. Not only is it a great lesson in how to treat the man or woman you love, it's also a lesson in the ways of the world. When everything you see and read these days is about destruction and chaos this story shows that so many people are truly good and believe in dreams.
I am looking forward to a possible meeting with this fantastic couple. Read this book, it's inspiring, emotional, and well written.
- This book is so inspiring. Anybody who has a dream, which is everybody, will absolutely love this book. It will encourage you to go out and chase your dreams. You won't be able to put it down as you feel you are truly taking part in this wonderful journey.
- Never before have I read such an inspirational tale. Many others have spoken of the wonderful people these two are ... I could not agree more .. The story inspires me daily .. I thought I would offer another insight in how this book can be used to motivate others
Some nights my near six year old son likes to sleep in my bed with me .. before he falls asleep he asks me to read to him from Candy and Herman's book .. he wants me to read until he is fast asleep .. already he has learned the power of dreams and his own ability to bring his to life ...
I can not say enough about the beauty that lies with in these pages!
Shannon
- I've never written a review here before but I feel compelled to do so for this book! I am only a little over halfway through and I am already buying more copies to give as gifts to friends, and to my mom for her retirement/career change gift. I want everyone I know to read it! It is such an enjoyable read that one could read it for enjoyment alone. But the big thing I am getting out of this is exactly the inspiration that Herman and Candelaria meant when they started writing it: to figure out what I want most out of life and to just go for it and make it happen! My husband and I NEVER read the same books but we both read this one after he bought it from them at a festival last fall. He loves it so much that he gets upset if I leave it somewhere that our 2 year old can get it and bend the pages!
- I met the Zapps at Craters of the Moon National Park last month and bought 3 of their books from them right there. Knowing that it could only be bought directly from them I was a little saddened I couldnt buy more copies (due to my finances) because I have reccomended it to all my friends and literally have a waiting list growing but now that I have found it on Amazon I can buy more copies! These are truly incredible people and have given me so much inspiration to follow my own dreams. Nearly every page of my book has highlighter markings of the truly wonderful and inspirational things in this book that I look back on occasionally to remind myself of things to be thankful for, dreams to follow, how to love others, take risks, and live for your heart! If you read this Candelaria and Herman, please know how much you have truly inspired me and made a difference in my life. It was a pleasure to meet you and your beautiful family!
