1. Our consulting staff recommends this book to all business women travelling to Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea. For each country, it covers rules of business and social etiquette, gift-giving, how to handle what westerners consider to be sexual harassment, a list of recommended hotels, restaurants and "in" nightspots, and helpful suggestions on how to conduct business successfully in the local culture. 2. I studied this book for 2 weeks before my first trip to Korea and Hong Kong. Wow! Very informative with lots of basic but important details about meeting rituals, business card etiquette and tons more! My Boss who has been traveling to Asia for 16 years wants a copy of this fabulous book!



3. Book covers aspects of travel for women in business that are neglected elsewhere. I found it right on in most instances and extremely helpful. Even, as a male. My wives and colleagues agree wholeheartedly.

   We usually prefer the EyeWitness series of guidebooks for first impressions of a new destination. The next Peru (EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDE) was released while we were in Peru (it arrived the day before we got home), and we purchased this "Insight Guide" as something of a second choice.
   
   We've both now read through it, and I can report that it seems to be as good as any travel guide we've seen in the EyeWitness series. One strength is that the articles are basically signed by the contributors; there is a section in the beginning of the book describing the specific contributions of each writer. As a result, the guide consists of a series of essays devoted to a topic. A weakness of the approach is that references to many sites and attractions are scattered through several sections of the book.
   
   The Insight Guide, created in conjunction with the Discovery Channel has really beautiful pictures, good to excellent maps, and very literate descriptions. I was particularly impressed with the historical section and the superb bibliography of further reading. I've studied over half of their suggestions, and there's not a clinker in the stack of books.
   
   What really impressed me, though, was that Peter Frost is a major contributor to the guidebook. I've written a glowing review of the fifth edition of his Exploring Cusco, which was released in 1999. As far as I can tell, no new edition of that marvelous guide is planned.
   
   If Insight and the Discovery Channel have preempted Mr. Frost for good, this guidebook will become the standard of excellence for Peru.

1. In a city of malls, malls, malls and its national sport is shopping...I was sooo happy to cut the crap and get straight to the good stuff.
   I sooo loved my Singapore luxe guide.



2. I've been to Singapore before and have several guide books. This "guide" is little more than a fold-out pamplet with very small print. The information is nothing special and probably the same stuff you could learn from wikipedia travel or other sites. There is little "luxe" about the information and even for $9 and the 4-for-3 deal it is not at all worth the money. Please learn from my mistake and buy something else.

1. The watercolours of colonial architecture by Graham Byfield do greater justice than mimetic photography in this instance. There is a nostalgic quality that is retained by preserving images of old Singapore buildings - some of which are no longer with us, such as the Katong Red Bakery, in this manner.
   
   Great attention is paid to detailing, such as in the Chinese Baroque facades of the terrace houses ("shophouses') in the Blair Rd district.
   
   As an added bonus, there are many little vignettes scattered around recording life in Singapore in the mid 80s - coffee shop life, ice cream street carts etc.
   
   For anyone who loves Colonial and Straits Chinese Singapore architecture, this book makes a lovely keepsake.



2. A very beautifully done tour of the restoration of colonial Singapore rendered in watercolors and charcoal sketches. The book gives glimpses into the everyday street life of Singapore in the 1980's. A provocative Journal which makes the reader long for a spur of the moment trip to the orient.
