- This book is a great read if you are planning a trip to Seattle. I have several Frommer's books on other destinations and they have never left me disappointed. This book is a great source for lodging, day trips, attractions, and restaurants in and around Seattle.
- Now I am planning a visit to Seattle, and of course the latest Frommer's edition is obligatory for complete informations about a place to visit. I do appreciate very much the "What's new" in the beggining of every Frommer's guide with latest info and the Architecture tips (whenever applicable). Light to carry, must be always in the handbag or photobag during a trip. Good clean maps.
- I recently went to Seattle for the first time this past Sept. I used this guide and it was the best thing I did. Everything was clear and informative and on the money. Easy to navigate with this guide as far as getting around town and what to do while you're there and even side trips to Bristish Columbia. I had a GREAT time there and I will be going again soon. I recommend this to anyone planning a trip to Seattle.
- Excellent "quick" guide to Seattle. Pretty much an overview. Good info for further investigation.
- This past weekend 10/29-29 2006, ten people were sent to the hospital, three in very critical condition following a weekend of gunfire and violence in downtown Seattle! These stabbings and shooting didn't happen in Rainier Valley south of downtown (the Valley of Death) where most of the gunshot victims come from, these came FROM DOWNTOWN SEATTLE.
My advice: If you visit Seattle, come wearing a bulletproof or Kevlar vest! Drug gang violence is out of control in the city.
As for the so-called best places in this book, many of the street corners of these "best places" are OWNED by drug dealers who stand there in rain or shine selling meth or crack, while the police look on and do nothing because they say THEY DON'T HAVE PROBABLE CAUSE! Yeah, sure ya bet cha! It just turns out the drug lords are better armed than the police.

- I received my copy of Fodor's Seattle & Vancouver 2000 less than a week ago - we now have airline tickets, reservations in Vancouver and Vancouver Island and Salt Spring Island - and hate that our trip is four months away! The book was invaluable - much is already marked and underlined. Having a separate map for lodging and dining is very helpful - plus we have found Fodor's suggestions for "walking" trips extremely helpful and accurate for trips to Europe and out West. Many of the places where we have reservations also have sites on the Internet - it would have been helpful if those addresses were listed in the book. I'm sure that will soon be happening. I had the recent copy of Gourmet's issue which focused on the best of restaurants - and the Fodor's comments were compatible - right on target! Overall, the book was excellent - but since we will spend more of our time on Vanvouver Island, I wish more detail was given about it.

- One of the reasons why I use this book is beacause it has wonderful tidbits and stories about the people and places that influence the Seattle scene. The book is easy to read and can give travelers a quick review on Seattle customs. Descriptions of the restaurants are thorough and offer suggestions of affordable places to grab a quick bite or sit down for a luxorious meal. The authors are honest about the social mix of people found here in the city...providing a section that talks about the areas populated and visited by the gay community. The small book can easily fit into the palm of your hand and is petite enough to fit into any small side pocket of travel gear - a handy feature for the frequent traveler! I reccommend this book in combination with the Lonely Planet: Seattle book and the Fodors Compass guide for Washington (state, that is).
- On it's own, this book is too tiny to help anyone who's visiting seattle for more than a day. It has a paragraph or two about the most common attractions, restaurants, parks, etc. However, since it has great, detailed maps, and it's so small, it's great to tuck in a backpack. When I have friends come to visit, I give it to them to carry around during the day- it's wonderful to consult to find a good spot to grab a lunch, or to be reminded what sights there are to see in whatever neighborhood they're in. If you have a bigger guidebook that you normally use, this is a great, portable supplement.

1 comments about Let's Go Map Guide Seattle (2nd Ed.) (Let's Go Map Guides: Seattle).
- I recently moved to Seattle from a larger city where the street layout followed an erratic and spiraling design. Upon arriving in Seattle, I was nonplussed by the sheer geometry of it's urban organization.
I became quickly disorientated by so much regularity that I decided to buy myself a small guide...thinking that maybe I'd get some good restaurant tips in the bargain.
Think again.
Sure, the cover is a laminated map. However, it's a focalized map of downtown Seattle, so it's handy...when you're in downtown Seattle.
As to the info inside, it hasn't served me once...
Overall: not much useful info, not many useful street plans.
My advice: Save your money on this one, buy a big 8x11 book of street plans, get the commercial info you need online and try out the restos in the Seattle Zagat.

- I really liked how well Seattle was described, though in a very general manner. Small glimpses of the city were given and well critiqued. Very helpful, even for relocation.
- This is as good as a guidebook can get.
It is concise- it is not a encylopedia volume to lug around town; It is informative- with history of the city and its surroundings, the book is very thorough and written very very well; It is well illustrated- restaurants, hotels, attractions are color-coded differently and there are a ton of great illustrations that really do justice to the charm of the city. Despite having grown up in Seattle, this book opened my eyes to a whole new world of places to go and restaurants to check out that I previously didn't see. I would like to shake the hand of the man who put together such a fine guidebook- I have one for the Washington DC area as well!
