3 comments about Bound by Honor.
- It was really interesting to read about the Celts in Ancient Britain and I love anything about Ancient Rome. The characters were easy to relate to and show real human emotion and feeling. The book is exciting to read, with battles and gladiators and human suffering yet it is moral and uplifting. On a recent trip to Rome walking through some of the ancient ruins, brought to life in my mind characters from the book. It is a great book - I'm proud to have it on my book shelf. I would highly recommed it to anyone.
- Bound by Honor was a very good book especially for a first novel. I loved the characters and I loved the setting. The characters had integrity and the setting was true to the period and location. I would recommend this book to anyone with the slightest interest in ancient european histories.
- This book keep you up with drama and you never know where it will take you

1 comments about Regarding the Borgo Pio: An Architectural View of a Renaissance Street in Rome.
- Having just returned from Rome, I fell across this title online.
The book is FABULOUS. The history is wonderful (wish I had read the book before our trip). We wandered down this street and ate lunch in a trattoria there after visiting St. Peters. The drawings are exceptional. Regarding the Borgo Pio will be a coffee table book in our home. Will go back to Rome, with this book in hand, and spend hours walking the area. So much more there than nice little restaurants! After hitting the "highlights - must do" things in Rome, there are so many other ways to spend days there.

1 comments about CHEAPSKATE'S GUIDE TO ROME AND VENICE: Hotels, Food, Shopping, Museums, and More.
- Having purchased the book to help plan my tour of Venice, I was rather disheartened to find that Venice is covered in a mere 40 pages. The text of those 40 is, however, quite informative. Of the eight Venetian hotels listed in the Cheapskate's Guide, only 2 offer a night of double room occupancy for less than $200 US dollars. Perhaps a guide for cheapskates in Venice should mention campgrounds ($25 a night) rather than the Hotel Gritti Palace (as high as $572) or the Cipriani (as high as $734).

1 comments about Sta. Maria del Popolo: Audio Guide to Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome and its Remarkable Art Treasures (Jane's Smart Art Guides).
- One of Rome's lesser known but truly outstanding cultural and artistic icons are wonderfully showcased and informative presented in "Jane's Smart Art Guide To Sta. Maria Del Popolo In Rome", a two CD disk audiobook that has a total running time of 1 hour, 55 minutes (consisting of an 18 minute pre-visit and a 97 minute on-site excursion) and guides the listener through a remarkable church with its modest early Renaissance facade masking an interior adorned with an wealth of Italian art treasures and rare architectural features that includes the first Renaissance dome, the last Baroque tomb, as well as works by such celebrated artists as Algardi, Bernini, Bramante, Bregno, Caravaggio, Pinturicchio, Raphael, and others. This audiobook format is ideal for the `armchair traveler' and a simply wonderful `hands free' guide for on-site visitors as the narration covers details far beyond the `highlights only' superficiality of many ordinary guidebooks. Thoroughly researched and expertly produced, as well as enhanced with the inclusion of an 8-page booklet including the track list, floor plan, a glossary, tips, and twelve photographic images, "Jane's Smart Art Guide To Sta. Maria Del Popolo In Rome" is nicely paced, well organized, and thoroughly `user friendly'. Also very highly recommended are the companion audiobook guides: "Jane's Smart Art Guide To St. Peter's Basilica In Rome And Its Remarkable Art Treasures" and "Jane's Smart Art Guide To Our Lady Cathedral In Antwerp And its Remarkable Art Treasures".

TITLE OF THIS BOOK: THE CIVILIZATION OF ROME by Pierre Grimal
While this book from the past may be one of the least known, it remains one of the best books on the civilization of Rome.
Having over 200 illustrations, drawings, and maps within its covers it is a milestone of publishing for its time. The book covers Rome both from its years as a republic through the later empire years. Another section covers life and customs, laws, conquerors, and art. Another section covers the land itself, the pleasures of the cities, and the great cities of the empire. There are also chronological tables, a historical and biographical dictionary, and an extensive bibliography.
Though a dated book it yet remains a very valuable addition to one's library shelf, and though I have many other volumes on Rome, this one from 1963 remains dear to my heart. It may be a book of interest to you as well.
