1. We purchased this book in preparation for a road trip in Spain. The maps have no detail and serve no real purpose. The descriptions of locations and drives are scanty and the photos look about 25 years old. This time, the cover sold the book and the inside does not live up to it!



2. This book has a bunch of useless detail combined with a lack of context. If you knew a ton about Spain and just wanted to go to little excursions, and didn't mind not knowing much about what was suggested, and didn't mind getting totally lost because the maps are close to useless, then buy this book immediately. Otherwise, it's a total waste of paper.



3. I think this book was excellent in helping you plan for a driving trip through Spain. I used this book last year while driving along the east coast of Spain from Zaragoza. The photos are pretty acurate, and the information is still very true. As with all guide books, you have to use several to plan a wonderful trip, I would also recommend Lonely Planet: Spain and Rick Steves guide to Spain and Portugal.



4. I rated this book four stars based on others in the series I have found helpful. The reviews for this book do not seem to be for the current edition of the book. The most recent edition was published April 2000 and the reveiws are written before that date. The editorial information states the new book has been completely redesigned and updated. Anyone out there used the April 2000 edition?

1. Recently went to Croatia for a 12 day trip around Istria and the southern part of the country. Was using the Time Out as main source of information and was thoroughly disappointed by level of detail, generic nature of recommendations, missed locations (Trogir not even mentioned and this is a UNESCO World Heritage site!) and even mistakes (the map of Istria has incorrect placement of towns!). In Dubrovnik, someone lent me a short Lonely Planet city guide which was significantly more informative, had descriptions of less major (but still interesting) sites not disclosed in Time Out and provided several suggestions for walking tours. Bottom line, this Time Out guide may be acceptable for certain areas (Split, Hvar and maybe Dubrovnik) if you are going for a long weekend at a maximum, but forget it if spending more than a few days in any city or thinking of going to a less touristy area (although Istria is quite popular and this guide does a very poor job concerning the region). I have used Time Out guides numerous times for specific cities and believe they generally do a terrific job; however, it is apparent that the same quality does not transcend to country guides.

1. I hated this guide book. It's layout was horrendous. I had to keep flipping back and forth. It was a pain to use and I would never buy it again!

1. This book has it all...colorful photos, lots of interesting & historical background...a very good book if you're planning a visit to this region. Highly recommended.



2. The book was invaluable in assisting us determine what city to home port in during our one-week visit to Provence -- Avignon. But once there we discovered the book lacked sufficient specific detail about the nearby vilages and town we wanted to visit. We suspected as much beforehand and purchased other travel guides to the region and between all of them, developed a decent undertsanding of the sites and places to visit. Don't forget to purchase the Michelin map titled "Provence, Cote d'Azur" (No. 582 Regional).



3. We've been very pleasantly surprised by the amount of detail on the cities and the beautiful pictures in this book on Provence. The book contains historic and cultural information as well as information on hotels, restaurants, and shopping.
   
   We hope to visit some vineyards in the area and there is an itineray included, however, it doesn't give the "specific" locations - but maybe that isn't possible.
   
   Although we usually don't travel with guidebooks, we are definitely planning on taking this one along with us!



4. Visually appealing- lots and lots of photos, illustrations and diagrams. This is a book that will inspire you to see more than you might otherwise. Small and convenient in size, and coverage is very complete



5. Very pretty photos which give you a good idea of Provence but instead of so many photos I wish there were more listings of hotels and restaurants. I found the information a little too spare and bought a different guide book instead.

1. My first experience with the AAA spiral series was the one on Florence. It was such a handy book to have with me at all times, so when we began plannning our trip to Barcelona - I purchased the one on it and I am equally as pleased. This gives a very concise, informative and colorful view of the cities. Easy to carry with you and offers up all the important information as you are exploring. I wish they published books on more major travel destinations. A definite "thumbs up"!
