- The 'romance of Paris' is all thoughout the pages of this beautiful book! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to be taken away without having to leave home!!
- Beautiful images. The author's descriptions are confusing and poorly organized but you can get information on the churches in other books.

5 comments about Bistros of Paris.
- Bistros are great for meat eaters; book doesn't point out whether any of the listed bistros will accommodate non-meat eaters. Stay away if foie gras, pork knuckles, and tripe don't turn you on.
- Having lived in Europe for several years, traveling to Paris hundreds of times, I've found this book to be the most reliable way to find an excellent restaurant while out and about. These people really know and appreciate French cuisine.
- Dude, the Robert Hamburger who wrote REAL Ultimate Power is different than the Rober Hamburger who wrote Bistros of Paris. You're an idiot if you think that a 10-year-old is also a 51-year-old. It's two different people, moron. Besides, Robert Hamburger, the ninja guy, hates bistros. He even says so on his website.
- I Found this book to be not helpfull with my ninjering study, I thaught that Robert Hamburger had writen this book about ninjering in paris. I nearly bust a nut when i saw it was a new book by him. I fliped out all over some guys flowerbed and couldn't stop myself to break a hole naiborhood including the trees which i broke in to down the middle like candys, it was so sweet. But whats bistros?
- You can do much better on your own by choosing crowded restaurants than depending on this book. For example, we relied on this book's recommendation and ate at Bistro Odeon described as moderately priced and very popular: neither description was accurate. This restaurant was almost vacant at peak time and for good reason. Very expensive in light of value for food received. We paid $24 dollars, US currency for three small scallops cooked essentially in butter and garlic, nothing at all exceptional. Dishes recommeded by the authors were flavorless and the wine, perhaps our choice, was pretty bad.
I think this book is very outdated. It recommends Chez Rene, a restuarant I have visited over the past twenty years and in that same period there has been a marked decline in quality accompanied with a substantial price increase.
To be fair to the authors, I would like the reader to know I base my opinion on the 2001 version, so the authors may have updated and refined their opinions. If not, I think the reader can do better when eating in Paris than he, or she would if this book is used as a guide. We certainly did.

1 comments about A Shopper's Guide to Paris Fashion.
- I'm impressed. As someone who often shops in Paris, I was amazed that Alicia Drake tells it like it is. Her descriptions of the merchandise at particular stores is dead-on and lively; she's not afraid to call a store overrated (& she's right!) This book makes it easy to plan a shopping trip to Paris since she goes by neighborhoods and describes each store as though you were walking down the street with her. Her recommendations also include descriptions of Parisian neighborhoods and some interesting eating options - mostly for lighter meals, with a strong emphasis on tea houses. Unlike the Born to Shop series (w/ its annoying, snobby/cloying cuteness), she discusses shops in all price ranges, in a clear writing style that allows you to decide if a particular shop is for you.
I hope she turns this into a series.

5 comments about Walks Through Marie Antoinette's Paris.
- and to everyone who wants a different historic tour through Paris...
- What a treasure this book is. Not only does it have pictures that I haven't seen anywhere else, the information is a history enthusiasts treat!
The size of the book, which adds to it's charm, is suitable to take with you as it guides you along in the footsteps of Marie Antoinette.
I simply loved it
- This book is over one hundred pages long, but only about ten pages are actually devoted to the book's title!
There are only two uneventful walks through Paris, the first one being only just slightly more interesting.
The maps provided are extremely poor, and the extra information provided by the author is nothing you could not obtain from a good guide book, or from the internet.
It is certainly not worth paying the price for the information in this book!
The majority of the book talks about various residences associated with Marie Antoinette in her lifetime, coupled with a terribly written account about the ill-fated Queen. The author seems to have really forgotten about her title!
DO NOT be fooled by the other five star reviews! This book is definetly misguided, and what it does contain has been said before.
- When i had first seen the book walks through Napolean and Josephine's Paris i immediately looked to see if there was one about Marie Antoinette. Alas there hadn't been one printed yet but i was informed that one was in fact in the making. I was very excited and preordered mine immediately. When it arrived i immediately read it cover to cover and was very inpressed by the wealth of knowledge contained n the little book. It even includes the addresses of several shops and bakeries that catered to the French Court including M. Bertin's studio where she constructed much of MA's lavish couture. This book is a little gem and i cannot wait to use it when i visit Paris.
- Just a great book. If you're considering buying this you already know the story, so I will simply say that we took this book along on our family's trip to Paris and had a great time walking through the city as Marie Antoinette's story came alive.

- My favorite travel book since Cramer wrote "Funkytowns" many years ago. This is the book about Paris for travellers that want to see the quirkiness of the great city. It will make the next Paris trip an enriching experience. It's also just a great Sunday afternoon read.

4 comments about Parisians: Photographs by Peter Turnley ; Forewords by Edouard Boubat and Robert Doisneau ; Text by Adam Gopnik and Peter Turnley.
- For those of you who have been to Paris, Peter Turnley's work will strike a deep sense of longing to return. His ability to capture some many facets of life throughout his book is delightful. I really enjoyed the mix of people, places, and situations he photographed such as a French woman in a barista or fans at a soccer game. His use of black and white photography added a sense of timelessness to the work. In summary, I think the book is an amazing piece of work that highlights the diversity and beauty of Paris.
- Peter Turnley has captured the spirit of Paris and the souls of Parisians and presented it in one beautifully produced volume for the world to see at an affordable price. The images are stunning and the order of the images contributes to the quality of the book. I expect to return to these images often for years to come.
- After being in Paris for an entire summer, I've returned to the US with great heartache. Paris had a profound effect on me, so when I arrived in the states, I feverishly tried to gather all I could to remind me of Paris. On a whim I bought "Parisians." From the moment I opened it up, I was suddenly back in my beloved city. The photographs capture Paris in the way that takes me back everytime. Turnley's skill at capturing the essence of Parisians is striking, uncanny and charming. If you've been, you miss it, or want to know what Paris is "really" like, just open the cover of "Parisians." On the days I want nothing more than to transport back to Paris, all I have to do is open this book and I'm there.
- It is a beautiful collection of images of the life in Paris. Seeing the pictures make you yearn to go there to take your own pictures.

1 comments about An Architect's Paris (Bulfinch Architecture/Travel Series).
- If you love Paris and it has been awhile since you have been there then, read this book. The author is knowledgeable, and his drwaings are as charming as your memories, It was handy to use as a reference, except there is no reference mechanism, you have to remember where you read the part you are interested in. Read it before you go to set yourself for the trip or after, again and again, to relive, the charm and beauty of that great city
