- I am mainly familiar with the routes near Portland. The author describes routes on logging roads, marked blue diamond routes thru the woods (often a hiking trail in summer), or unmarked cross country routes in some places, and places to try your Telly turn in others. There are "maps" of the area, which do not replace topo maps. There also some black & white photos. It does not cover major mountain climbing with ski descent, except to warn about the difficulty in doing St Helens. He mentions those few areas with higher avalanche danger, other areas avalanches are rarer, particularly when the general avalanche danger is low.
There maybe some problem keeping this statewide book update.

- The book has less than 22 pages of text. It would be a short chapter of a Junior High American History book. The balance of the 64 pages are mostly historical photographs (too many not directly related to the trail).
The representation of fact is suspect also. An example is it's statement that the Lewis and Clark expedition was organized AFTER the Louisiana Purchase. Jefferson had commissioned the expedition to explore foreign (Spanish) territory. There are other similar representations. While not an expensive book by any standard, the value is just not there except as a very early primer.
