1 comments about Rand McNally Easyfinder Portland Map (Easyfinder Map).
- Clear, large enough print to read, small size and laminated to protect from that Portland weather! Covers the downtown area very well, and I use it on a weekly basis. Even bought one for my fiancee when she relocated to Portland. All our guests who borrow the car find it to be the best map we have on the area. Great map of the area, helps me get around daily.

5 comments about Best Places Alaska (Alaska Best Places, 2nd Edition).
- I have to admit. I went to Alaska alone without a guidebook. But I had a great time anyway! When I came home, I decided to go back again, but this time with a guidebook. After going through many of the guides, we choose this one, because it was written by people who live and work in Alaska. It's full of practical tips ("Bears and Humans), offbeat trivia ("Chicken"), and subtle information ("Eskimo Etiquette"). From small towns way up north, to the rugged beauty of the Kenai Peninsula, and to the urban fun of Anchorage, this guide covers it all. Read this, and you'll be calling the airlines to book your flight the next week!
- Best Places Alaska is an outstanding travel guide that features only the 'best' restaurants, lodgings, and destinations in Alaska, including guides and outfitters in its lists of recommendations for particular Alaskan regions. An excellent, involving survey of Alaska's best places, Best Places Alaska is a recommended take-along tote.
- We used this book every day - and usually more than once. It is filled with great suggestions and recommendations. We found a few entries "outdated," but that can be expected. The suggestions for which shops to visit in small and large cities I found to be particularly helpful. Best book I have ever bought for travel.
- A fantastic guidebook describing some of the off beat places in Alaska. If you want the true Alaskan experience, get this book. It contains over 200 restaurant and lodging reviews and stories of the 'best' places in Alaska. One of the three must travel books (Milepost, Discovering Denali, and Best Places Alaska) if you are going to the Last Frontier.
- When planning our Alaska vacation to celebrate my parent's 50th anniversary, we bought this for them to read (since they don't use the internet). They read it with regards to all the stops on our itinerary for the cruise/land package we were taking and found it tremendously helpful!

1 comments about Fodor's Escape to Nature Without Roughing It,1st Edition: 250 Hand-Picked Resorts, Inns, and Lodges in Amazing Natural Settings (Special-Interest Titles).
- As the baby boomers grow older, their appreciation for nature and the outdoors may not fade, but the appreciation for a king-size bed in the process may take precedence over camping out. Turn to Fodor's Escape To Nature Without Roughing It: 250 Hand-picked Resorts, Inns, And Lodges In Amazing Natural Settings for an excellent get-away guide: it covers the entire USA and Canada, it covers all kinds of 'wilderness' from seashore and mountains to farmlands, and it provides recommendations of lovely lodges, farmhouses, and rural hotels. These are more than just listings: extensive descriptions of both accommodation and environment nearby include prices, amenities, payment options and more.

2 comments about The Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Volume 5: July 28-November 1, 1805 (Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition).
- This volume details the thoughts of Lewis and Clark, and others as they determine which major waterway to follow to the Great Falls of the Missouri, their first significant obstacle. The portage around the great falls is more than they imagined, and is explained in great detail. It explores the many new discoveries in the interior of what is now central and western Montana. This volume also further expounds the growing problems with the unpredictable 'white bear', and the harshness of spring and summer weather in Montana.
- During the period covered by this volume, Lewis and Clark were beyond the portage around Great Falls. During the time described in the subtitle to this volume, July 28 - November 1, 1805, L&C were leaving Three Forks, crossing the continental divide, and meeting the Shoshone Indians, with whom they traded for horses with which to cross the Bitteroot Mountains. The portage around Great Falls is described in Volume 4 of Moulton's edition of the journals.

1 comments about Scuba Diver's Travel Companion (Falcon Guide).
- I was a bit disappointed when I first got this book as I expected something totally different. With that said I'll try my best to make a fair review of this book.
If you watched the movies on your Open Water course and read your books, then you more or less already know what Scuba Diver's travel companion has to say. The author of the book is a master scuba diver with about 20 years of experience. This doesn't help when he has very little to add to the Open Water manual. The book itself is a black and white book with some drawings and no real pictures. In other words, don't expect this book to help you choose which dive site to visit next (it explains each dive site, but it's a bit boring to read). The book contains tons and tons of information that is just common sence. Things like: don't throw up upwind or you might get it in your face, and don't swim to the ladder until the diver in front of you has climbed up or else you might get his tank in your head if he falls down. It's not hard to guess where the author's from, and the book is a bit too much Americanized if you ask me.
The chapters goes like this:
Introduction - X
Tips for dive travel - 1
Worldwide dive destinations - 23
Airlines, packing, and local transport - 49
Masks, fins, snorkels, and exposure suits - 65
BC's, regulators, tanks, weights, and dive computers - 81
Weighting and bouyancy - 95
Dive equipment accessories - 103
Predive equipment checks - 123
Enchancing your dive skills - 137
Breathing gas underwater - 163
Hazardous marine life - 173
Care of dive equipment - 187
Expanding diving opportunities - 201
Appendix A: Resources for divers - 213
Appendix B: Dice checklists - 215
Index - 221
About the author - 227
Like I said earlier, if you've read your Open Water manual, you won't need this book. But it won't hurt reading it, it will probably make you remember thing better since repetition is the best way to remember things. And you'll most likely pick up a few tips and tricks.
The book also have some positive sides. I liked the chapter about hazardous marine life. It will tell you about what to stay away from, and how to treat an "attack" by any of these animals. My Open Water book lacked this as far as I can remember. The book also have some nice checklists for packing, pre-dive, equipment and so on. The book also explains some things a bit more in depth than the Open Water manual, like the chapter that deals with care of dive equipment.
