  1. Wheel Boats On The Missouri: The Journals And Documents Of The Atkinson-O'fallon Expedition 1824-1826 is an archival reference showcasing a specialized slice of early American frontier history - as reflected by the original words of the wheel boat men who were directed by President James Monroe to negotiate peace treaties with Native American tribes along the Missouri River. The resulting use of 475 infantry soldiers, "gunboat diplomacy," and man-powered wheel boats across a 3,000 mile expedition is meticulously detailed among numerous primary references. Journals dealing with daily life, navigation difficulties, American Indian cultures and political negotiations provide an amazing glimpse into army life in an America of almost two centuries past. Wheel Boats On The Missouri is an impressive work of scholarship and a strongly recommended addition to academic and community library American history reading lists and reference collections.

  1. This easy to use guide is an asset to anyone living or traveling to the Calgary area. The directions are easy to follow. The descriptions of the destinations are accurate and very interesting. He has put a lot of thought into the book and includes many less travelled and yet very beautiful sites. Especially recommened for famillies with young children who are not up for the long car rides but sill want to visit new and fun places.

  2. Having lived in Calgary for close to 10 years I thought I knew all there was to do in the Calgary region. 'Day Trips From Calgary' opened my eyes to many more adventures within a 2 hour drive from Calgary, away from the well beaten paths to Banff and Kananaskis Country. It also provides some insight to the suprisingly long and colorful history of the area.
You don't have to spend a fortune to have a great time around Calgary!

  1. MapEasy are fantastic, and beautiful maps suitable for framing, really. Each map is entirely hand-drawn, annotated with small illustrations of landmarks, historical tidbits, and filled with color-coded listings of many neighborhood shops that a resident, not just a visitor would find useful. There is one main map, and in the back, a series of mini-maps focusing on various areas of interest along with driving directions, suggested itineraries, and more. The maps are printed on tear resistant, and water resistant material for long lasting quality. The only downside is MapEasy's definition of "Upper" Manhattan, it is the area from 59th to 89th Street, so it is misleading. rkchin. more map reviews at http://www.nychinatown.org/bookstore/index6.html
