  1. I can't believe I got suckered into buying this book! Everybody in it paid the authors to be in the book. When I went to get my money back they had already left town!

  2. This book is filled with 400 pages of free or low cost things to do in Michigan. I've passed around my copy to family members so many times that it is falling apart. We've made notations next to the things we have been to with our thoughts (like was it worth it or a waste of time) so that others who borrow the book can see where to go.

I paid full price for this back in 1998 and it has been well worth it.

  1. The layout of photography and text I feel was impecible. The striking pictures presented an alluring appeal. I have travelled to Seattle and I felt it was quite complete. It not only covers the City of Seattle but also the area around Seattle such as Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier Parks which are really a treat to see.

  1. This book is written by an english woman living in America. It follows a families experience through 9-11, anthrax, the sniper and suburban living in DC. Extraordinairy events with hilarious and personal views on how this effects one family. Well worth reading whatever your nationality.

  1. Albert Jerome Dickson was a fourteen-year old youth when taking these notes of his 1864 journey westward to Montana. In later years his son Arthur compiled all his father's notes, journals and papers into this narrative. Young Albert was enthusiastic, sharp-eyed and keen in his observations.
Not only do we read of day to day travel on the trail, but also Indian uprisings and intimidations of the early 1860's; road agents, thieves and murderers and how vigilante groups confronted this behavior; life in early Montana mining communities; the reality of making ends meet while homesteading; establishment of territorial laws; character analysis of such men as Jim Bridger, J. M. Bozeman, military figures, the notorious Jack Slade and many others.
    An enjoyable and historical timepiece.

  1. What a thrill to see this book back in print. It's first edition was one of the Outdoor Life series and has given us the tools to understand one of North America's most majestic creatures. The life cycle, aging, growth patterns, habitat and environmental needs of the whitetail are explained in detail with the writer's storyteller style mixed in. This book can be understood and enjoyed by young and old, hunters and ranchers, nature lovers and anyone interested in learning more about one of the most unique animals on earth.

  2. There is nothing you want or need to know about deer that is not covered in this book. Rue has every detail about every variety of deer found in North America. He combines solid biological research with his own personal observations to provide an interesting, informative and entertaining work. This book belongs in the library of any serious hunter.

  1. Great Book! nice size, easy to carry with you when in Las Vegas. The best overview of Las Vegas I have found (I have them all). Lots of detail in this book that are not in the others, even includes a section on outside the Vegas area for day trips (Hover Dam, Area 51, Lake Mead, & many more). Great sections on Accommodations, Restaurants & Buffets, Night Life, Adult Entertainment, Art Culture, Gambling, History, Comps, Weddings, Casinos, & much more. Reads easy like a good magazine, lots of nice color pictures. Detailed maps also included. The only book you will need. I reccomend highly.

  2. To me, Time Out guides are the best you can buy. They are better than Lonely Planet and Frommers and anything else on the market. They are very in-depth, colorful, heaps of photos, so informative and often go the extra mile by adding bonus pages on either the history of the city, or the culture or anything of even minimal interest.
This 2007 edition is choc-full of anything you wanted to know for your vacation to Vegas and day trips to other places like Arizona, California and Utah. It even has a mini segment about gambling and lessons on how to play some of the more popular games in the casino. There are listings in the back for hospitals, websites for where to find dentists, list of radio stations, post offices and almost anything you could want to find. It covers where to stay from budget to grand opulence, what to do with or without kids, maps of the Strip and surrounding areas and of course my absolute favourite topics - food and shopping.
By the time you read this guide, you will be a novice of Vegas whether you've already been before or going for the first time. I'm about to go to Vegas for my 12th time and I still find this book of use. I highly highly recommend it and recommed their other guides for other great cities around the world.

  3. TIME OUT LAS VEGAS is a great book about all the pleasurable activities available in Las Vegas, as well as its seamier side. The book also discusses how segregated the city was racially until the 1960s, and how African-Americans were made to feel unwelcome there. Also, there is a discussion on the influence of the Mafia in what has become known as "Sin City." Finally, there are tips on how to avoid losing all of your money at the gaming tables, slot machines, sports books, and, if you're a horse-lover, horse-racing betting stations. This book is essential for keeping yourself healthy and safe in Las Vegas, and if you go there without it, you could be declared too mentally disturbed to manage your own affairs.

  4. This book pretty much tells it like it is. It accurately describes the tacky and over-priced sights. It also tells where to find the good values and reasonably priced venues. There are sections on all the free goodies you can get and places to go when you get tired of the glitter of Las Vegas.

  5. i'm heading to Las Vegas in September in 2008.i wanted a book that would go through everything that las vegas had to offer. i am not going to gamble. so i was delighted that the book only had a small chapter about gambling.the book listed everything from shopping to eating. the most informative part of the book was the trips of of town, i didn't realisze California was so close to Las vegas (1 hour flight) so now i'm heading to LA aswell thanks to the book. it also has a wedding section which i found useful as i hope to get married in Vegas in 2009. it had all the information about about getting a marriage licence & the hidden costs.
    great read. Well Worth Buying!!!!!

  1. You have a wealth available to you that is truly priceless. The National Parks of America hold in trust for all Americans over 80.7 million acres of land. Over 50 times more that all of what Ted Turner owns and far beyond Bill Gates financial ability to buy. All of this, the best America has to offer, is yours for the taking, or visiting . To know what is yours is the purpose of the Guide to National Parks. Each of these eight guides have a smattering of color photos, a meager scattering of full-color trail maps and a brief, but good, highlight of each park's most impressive features. Guide to National Parks: Southeast Region covers 75 national parks in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina Tennessee, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

What this guide cries out for is maps, maps and more maps. What you get is one master map and eight color maps. That's it... that all you get to help you navigate 75 national parks - pathetic.

The key page is a two-page Southeast Region Map but there is nothing linking you from this map to where in the book the park is described. The master map doesn't have any numbers or references. To complicate matters more there is no index, so you can't reference the parks name and go to the page. Rather you return to the table of contents and search there for the park. Sixty eight parks have no map at all. For example; Cumberland Island National Seashore (36,415 acres) no map, or Biscayne National Park (172,924 acres) no map - you get the idea. This is a serious short coming that if corrected would truly enhance the value and usefulness of this book. Conditionally Recommend.

  1. If you like the outdoors and spend time in Northern California like I do, this book is indespensible! I use it to find all kinds of cool things to do when I travel. I used it on my last trip and it guided me on fun things to do in and around San Francisco, up through Napa and Sonoma valley, great hikes in less populated regions further North around Mt. Shasta, down to Yosemite, the greatest park in the world, to Sea Kayaking in Monterey Bay and finally down to fun coastal stuff around Big Sur. Needless to say I'm very psyched that author Andrew Rice is researching a book on outdoor adventures in Southern California!

  2. I have been living in the Bay area for almost 3 years and have had numerous books, most of which stink in comparison to this one. The vast amount of area that this book covers is great for doing just about anything in or around the Bay Area. I've probably utilized this book for more than 30 different activities (biking, hiking, camping, etc.) and I'd have to say that just about EVERYTHING that I've done was great and went smoothly because of the detail the book provides. The only bad thing I'd have to say is that the layout of the information is a bit confusing, but there are so many good "activities" in it that you get over that part quickly.
