2 comments about Lonely Planet New York, New Jersey and Pennsyvania (Serial).
- Of all the guidebooks I've read, I've found this guide to be the most helpful, well setout, motivating book yet. I've been in New York for 1 month now and I have found the book invaluable. I especially like the sections on transport. It offers choices not just a statement of what you need to do. Also, the way the attractions are all logically set out by areas is helpful in trying to plan your days and getting the most out of them. I will be in New york for the next 11 months and I'm sure I will continue to use my 'bible of New York' till I leave. Well done Lonely planet
- What a wonderful tool this little book is. This LP guide to the midatlantic states provides information that both a foreign tourist coming to the area for the first time and a local searching for a new experience will find useful. In addition to being chock full of information the text is illuminating and humorous reading as well.

2 comments about Minnesota Curiosities: Quirky Characters, Roadside Oddities & Other Offbeat Stuff.
- The quisisential answer to "Everything you ever wanted to know about Minnesota.........but didn't know what to ask". What a delightful journey into some of the most tucked away sights and stories of Minnesota. The author has a style of writing that seems to have that Paul Harvey punchline giving you ..the rest of the story. Tales are spun respectfully no matter how outrageous the oddity. Even life long Minnesota residents will get a knee slap as they are compelled to read a chapter out loud to folks that will just keep saying "Gee, I never knew that"
This book will be our companion for spring travels this year. Our goal is to hit as many of the curiosities as possible and either put a notch in our book or get an autograph! Highly recommended for family gatherings and folks who love to know it all.
- This book really is a lot of fun. You'll learn about a family that makes canoes the old-fashioned way, about two chain-sawing sisters that set up a bar, about ice fishing and all the strange things that get found at the bottom of a lake, and lots of interesting characters. The author has written for Prairie Home Companion, so you'll recognize the style. It's fun to read, even if you're not going to visit Minnesota.

1 comments about Frommer's Walking Tours: San Francisco (Frommer's Walking Tours).
- The Venice version of the Frommer Walking Tours was great so my wife and I had high hopes for this book during our trip to San Francisco this week. One problem which we faced was the age of the book...it was printed in 1995 so many businesses have disappeared and several museums have moved in the interim (notably the Asian Art Museum and the SF Museum of Modern Art). We were surprised, however, to note that several buildings are shown incorrectly on the maps of the tour, including the SF Public Library in the Civic Center.
In addition, the author focuses quite a bit on shopping rather than historical details. This causes problems when she points out notable antiques shops that have disappeared. I guess it's a challenge to write a travel guide to a very vibrant city like San Francisco compared to a more historical city like Venice. Locations move constantly in San Francisco while Venice's magic is how it remains timeless. If you decide to use this book to tour San Francisco (and I recommend walking tours in this wonderful city) I'd suggest a visit to Google to check the routes prior to heading to the city and setting out on your own. Enjoy!

1 comments about How to Have a Fabulous, Romantic Honeymoon on a Budget.
- This book is by far one of the best common sense travel books I have ever read. My husband and I chose to splurge on one of the more expensive honeymoons staying on a resort in the Poconos. This book helped us to afford this extravagance and offered many additional suggestions about other places to visit along the way. Tips on booking affordable flights, eating inexpensively, and securing nice but affordable lodging was included. This book goes state by state, so you will find a perfect, romantic honeymoon even in your home state. We have re-used this book to plan other vacations, and I loan it out to many of my friends and family members when they are choosing family vacations. This book is a must have.

4 comments about Fodor's Where Should We Take the Kids: California, 3rd Edition: Fresh, Most-Fun-for-the-Money, Anything-But-Boring Getaways for You and Your Chi ldren, ... (Where Should We Take the Kids? California).
- Very useful book for locals and visitors. We liked the way it gave us recommended age groups and prices. We can now plan ahead places to visit within and on the way to our next holiday area. We have also used it for planning field trips from the school into San Francisco. Easy to use and enjoyable to read.
- I've been searching for a book like this for several years and haven't found one that fit the bill until now! I had a great time reading it - so well written - and got more useful information than I'll ever be able to use in one lifetime! Thanks so much to the writers and publishers!
- I loved this book and would recommend it to any family wanting to travel in the northeastern United States. The writers offer tips and reviews on places of interest, resorts, and campgrounds in a wide range of prices. In fact, we have visited some of those places and found a brand new vacation prospect in Lake George which we will be trying out this summer! Definitely one of the most informative travel books on the market today -- entertaining even if you do not go to these places.
- Having spent a lot of time looking for information on imaginative & fun (and sometimes luxury) travel with kids, I can tell you that this is a really unique book. It is comprehensive, carefully researched and well written with loads of practical tips. Some 'travel with kids' books might as well just be bland advertising copy, this one really provides good editorial content, with positive and critical comments. It is a pleasure to read and we will use it for a long time. Fodor's should publish more of these for other parts of the US/world.
