- This book rocks! I'm a guy and I have to say that this is truly not just a "Girls Guide". My buddies and I picked it up one night at a local bookstore, just to see what all the hoop-la was about. To our surprise, we finally learned and figured out where to meet chicks! THANK YOU DANIELLA! Now, we can get out of our Apts. and stop playing PS2. This is a great book for guys as well. When is "Girls Guide 2" coming out? Looking forward to it!
- Good stuff! I'm a dude and all I have to say is, Thank you Daniella! I have been living in NYC for several years now and I can finally say that I have found my Nightlife guide. This is not just a "Girls Guide". Any smart guy should pick up this book and read it cover to cover. Fellas, she TELLS us where ALL the ladies are. How much easier can it get? I read it, used it and meet many females. You may have to go to the Beauty Bar, but who cares...you'll be glad you did later. She has it all in there. Be it the local hole(Reservior)to the high-roller(Bungalow 8) joints. She knows her spots and you will too!
- This book was the most hilarious, quick-witted thing I've read in a long, long time. I am EAGERLY awaiting the author's novel. I am her hugest fan now! The book is great (not to mention the chic art), includes many many places to hit in NYC and the stories are absolutely hysterical. She cuts nightlife down with a double-edged sword and makes choosing where to go out SO enjoyable, especially for a fellow soon-to-be-former commuter LI'er like me. God bless you Daniella, and your magical pen!
- This book is great for anyone looking for entertainment in NYC. Not only does it break down all of the bars/clubs/restaurants/lounges for any kind of mood...it gives you great ideas for any kind of entertainment you are looking for. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone living or planning to visit NYC.
- Well, I've never been to your town but if like me, you come from a little town in the darkest recesses of wild and wooly wales (uk) then, theres nothing like getting your feet up and reading daniellas book. It was a laugh from the first page to the last and I'll make sure I make a bee-line to your shores toot sweet. Please give us some more and give my love to your mother who I'm sure is a lovely lady. Don't worry I'm a nice person really .....all the best E.

3 comments about New York: City of Islands.
- I bought the book based on the coverphoto. Regarding that I in fact wanted a book on New York, I cannot say I regret it. The book is fully illustrated with beautiful photographs of New Yorks five boroughs. Though I`ve been to New York five times before I`ve only been to Manhattan and Queens, but I surely was tempted to see all five boroughs when I go back during fall -99. The photographs has a soul in a way and all represent a motion or a mood that I catched right away. I could actually feel the smells the sounds and the dynamic pulse New York stands for. Pete Hamill's text as an introduction to each borough gives the reader a fully good and poetic insight in New Yorks majestic soul.
- I bought this book back in 1999. I am a New Yorker and I wanted a book that showcased all of my wonderful city. I never, in my wildest dreams, thought that I would have to look at this book in order to ever see the World Trade Center again. After the attack on New York City on Sept.11, 2001, my whole world as I knew it changed forever. This wonderful, beautiful book is my only reminder of the New York City that I have known and loved all my life. I know the Twin Towers will rise again! Until then I have my book!
- This book is excellent!
The introductory essay brilliantly connects the history of the city, the multiculturalism of the city, the reality of the city in a way that is warm and insightful. It smoothly flows from the actions of yesteryear that have lead to the great metropolis of today, all while maintaining an emphasis on the human side of the story. Its a great literary preparation for the visual feast your eyes will experience as it glances, absorbs, and inspects photos in the latter parts of the book.
The images themselvess are fantastic. The book is divided into six chapters: City of Islands (which is the well written introduction), Passage (random images of the city), Retreat (images of green areas, parks, and gardens), Connection (images of bridges and roadways), Structure (images of facades and interiors of a few important buildings), and Edge (images of places along the outer edge of the city such as Staten Island, Rockaway Beach, and Coney Island among other places). There is a certain human element through out the book. One of the nicest element is that the author places emphasis on showing pieces of all New York boroughs and avoids the Manhattan bias typical of other books about this city.
All in all, the book shows New York City as it is, a great multicultural metropolis worth saving!

- What an interesting book. As a native New Yorker, I look forward to using it on a walking tour of Manhattan. There are so many things to see in Manhattan, and it is not all in the museums, and large tourist attractions.
- This book was right up my alley. I have lived in NYC my whole life, and I know that there is so much history here, that we walk right past every day. I also think that after the tragedy of September 11th, we need to have an understanding, and appreciation of the different groups that make up the great city, plus make a place for spirituality in our lives.
- This is the book all New Yorkers need to help them get over the horrible events of September 11th. Looking at our great city's more spiritual side is not only an interesting idea but it also allows New Yorker's and non New Yorkers alike to grasp a deeper meaning and an intimate knowledge of New York. This book perfectly illustrates the point that no matter what you do to this city and it's people, we'll get right back up because we have heart and soul!!! Bravo to Ms. Cook on a well-written and inspiring tome. This book also makes a perfect holiday or birthday gift. Do yourself and New York a favor and buy this book, it'll show you a side of NY that you forgot existed.

- All of my friends in New York were talking about this book, so I bought one before my trip. It's great to have everything from shopping to restaurants, to what to do in one book and be able to carry it around. It really made New York with kids easy and fun!
- Finally a "Zagat-like" guide for families. Although I have lived in the New York area all my life, New York with kids is a whole different place. This book has the inside scoop on activities, restaurants, shops and a ton of things I did not know. What's more-it's easy and it's fun to read.
- This book is fabulous. I recently travelled to NYC with my 15 month old daughter, and was looking for a book with suggestions fo fun places to take her, and also wanted to know where the "cool" clothing and toy stores were. This book was right on target-answered everything I wanted to know and more.

5 comments about Heavenly Weekends: Travel Without A Car: 52 Daytrips, Overnight and Weekend Getaways Near NY (City and Company).
- This is the most enjoyable travel book I've read to date! I enjoyed just reading it & can't wait to plan some of the trips! As a resident of New York City, my access to a car is limited. I love the idea of not having to worry about getting a rental car, paying for it, or having to return it! Not to mention, being able to start my vacation immediately rather than waste time sitting in traffic! To the authors: Keep up the good work! I'm waiting for a follow up!
- I picked up this book not too long ago. I loved it I have already begun planning my travels. I want to start with the firt place mentioned. I would recommend it to anyone!
- This is a very helpful book for people wanting to take a day or overnight trip from New York City without a car. I find that for a short trip, taking a car adds many hassles. Just driving out of NYC can be so time consuming not to mention aggravating. Here is the perfect book for people who want to concentrate on looking out the bus or train window on the way, and using their legs a bit when they get there. I've used this book to plan trips to Southbury, CT (wonderful place!), Red Bank, NJ (great antique browsing and/or collecting), Rhinebeck, NY (fantastic inn), and Sag Harbor, Long Island NY (beautiful town) to mention a few.
- When I first saw this book I fell in love with it. First of all, it has a very lovely cover and I love the fact that you don't need a car for any of the trips listed in this book. Because of a personal dilemma I had, I felt a need to leave the city and I needed to leave right away, but I didn't know where to go. I grabbed this book and breezed through it to find the right place for me to go. I went online to check the bus schedule, packed my bags in 20 minutes and left! I felt the urge to leave the city quickly; this was my most spontaneous trip and this book helped me to do that. I enjoyed my weekend trip (arrived there friday evening and left sunday afternoon) and felt refreshed, with a renewed outlook on life.
- It's not that this book doesn't offer some decent ideas for where to go for a weekend away. There are some. But what the book lacks is variety of type of escape and colorful, insider-info writing. Written by two moms who met on a park bench while their kids were playing in the sandbox, all of the trips tend to take on a girls-weekend-away feel, combined with soft, gushy writing about delightful places to have lunch, quaint towns, and cute places to stay. I was turned off by several places that just seemed too precious and longed for more variety in the types of places to visit.

3 comments about Park It! NYC: Complete Guide to Parking Garages (Park It NYC: Complete Guide to Parking Garages) (Park It NYC: Complete Guide to Parking Garages).
- I love my "Park It" guide. Not only can I find the best places for me to park - but I can find the location of the primary tourists spots on the great maps (easy to read). For example if I am looking at the upper east side section I can find out where the Guggenheim, the Frick and the Metropolitan are...and then find the closest parking spot. I am giving it as a present to all of my friends.
- Hi. So I just needed to find a parking garage in New York City to park my car for monthly parking. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on the monthly parking but also didn't want a garage miles and miles from my apartment. This book really saved me. I first looked at the maps section to start to look at garages near me, or within reasonable subway distance. Then I checked out which of those were under or within my desired budget. I had to call a couple of the garages that were referenced in the back of the book, but after a quick discussion with them I eventually found a garage that was perfect! It was fantastic. I never expected to have such an easy time finding what I was looking for but I did! And I wouldn't have done it without this book. I'm gonna keep a copy in my car too since I have to drive around the city a lot for work in all parts of the city, and I'm certain that Park It! Guides is going to come in very handy for me. Thank you Park It! Guides!
- As with any printed information, this guide gets outdated quickly. It is handy for a general idea of prices & locations, but check the internet for the latest information.
