1 comments about New York's 50 Best Places to Renew Body, Mind, and Spirit: A City and Company Guide (City and Company).
- This is the book I have been looking for. Who'd have thought there could be such wonderful opportunities for renewal in NYC? This book really addresses the needs of city dwellers. If you have just a few minutes, a day or a week, you can benefit from the opportunities to turn the stress down that this book offers. And even better you will experience some unique and fascinating sites. It is concise but informative giving all the information needed to go to each place.

- We followed this book to Cold Spring for a day-trip but ended up lost in the woods. It took 8 firefighters to rescure us from the mountain. According to the firefighters, we were the third group that got lost this year because of this book.
While this book provides a well-designed day-trip routes, it lacks a detailed map for inexperienced travelers to follow. Only use this book to plan your trip but ***DO*** use a comprensive map from NYNJTC(New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, for each locale.
- The locations are wonderful, and there is some very interesting historical background about the towns, but the maps are very vague and confusing. I have gone on four of the hikes, and have managed to get through most of them without getting too lost, mainly because of using supplementary maps.
There are several errors in directions (go left instead of right, for example!) and they tend to be a little vague. I would recommend trying the trips only with a good map, and perhaps some help from another book such as the New York Walk Book. However, it is helpful to have information on public transportation, and overall the trips are very interesting.

1 comments about New York City Birds.
- I ordered this item to be able to reference the different types of birds throughout Manhattan and NYC. When I received this item I was quite surprised to find it was flat, just like a folded map. I guess I should have paid more attention to the description being a "fold out guide" and not a book, but it still really took me by surprise. Previously I had ordered a similar product on all the different NYC trees and I received an actual pocket book with many pages. I thought this would be something similar but it's really nothing more than a fold-out guide with pictures and extremely limited descriptions of the different types of birds you can find in the city.
When completely unfolded it measures 22" long by 8.25" high. In all honesty, this is something that could have been downloaded off the internet (save for the fact that it is laminated) and $6 seems a bit pricey for the actual product. This guide is okay if you just want to try to visually match up a particular bird you have seen, but other than that it really doesn't offer too much information.

4 comments about Shadow Traffic's New York Shortcuts and Traffic Tips: By Gridlock Sam (Shadow Traffic's New York Shortcuts and Traffic Tips).
- I liked the book a lot. It helped me get around the city
- When at law school in New York in 1965, I drove taxicab at night and learned a great deal about the city in three years. Today when I visit the city many old tricks work, but many changes mean more new ones are needed. This book fills a great need for me, and I think I know my way around. A newcomer can do nothing but benefit from as much of this book as they choose to master. I carry it in the car in case I will be driving there where my daughter lives and works. Keeping traffic in motion is the secret to city driving and pleasure.
- This book has wonderful tips for traveling in and around the city (it even has tips for getting out to the Hamptons without losing your mind!) A great book to own and a fun book to give.
- This book is excellent. If you've ever been stuck in traffic in or around New York then this book is a must have. I can't count the number of times this book has helped me get out of jams and save valuable time. An absolute must have for anyone who dares to drive in New York.

2 comments about Ghostly Gotham: New York City's Haunted History.
- I love Ghost stories and such in general. I found the book very interesting on places who knew they were ever haunted. The layout i like by neighborhood. I gave it four stars because I put the book down wanting more...
- I enjoy reading haunted books about places I am going to visit. I decided to purchase this book because it had gotten decent reviews on this website. However, I was very disappointed. I personally like a little more story and a little more on what happens during the hauntings. This book gives you one or two page descriptions on the place and who haunts it. I could find this information out by talking to someone who works there. If you are interested in a good book that is filled with good stories that might send chills up your spine, forget this book. If you are looking for a 2 second read about a place that might be haunted this is the book for you.

3 comments about Seats New York: 150 Seating Plans to New York Metro Area Theatres, Concert Halls & Sports Stadiums (Seats New York).
- Although I live in Hilton Head, S. Carolina, I'm a native New Yorker who spent many wonderful evenings at concerts and the theatre. I therefore didn't know how valuable this book would be until I planned a return visit this past month.
A family relative is performing at The Met at Lincoln Center and one of my sisters was getting the tickets. What she was told were the "best available seats" in fact weren't and she later found out from the performer that there is a "family section." I opened my copy of "Seats" and sure enough, there it was. I also purchased tickets for "Hairspray." At $240/ticket, I was adamant that unless I got fabulous seats I wouldn't pay the price. After finding several offerings of seats that were less than great, I came upon some in the 3rd row orchestra front and center. Had I not had "Seats" I would have beem back and forth on the internet trying to find a current seating chart . I have since bought the book for my sisters, brother and mother (great Christmas gifts). Knowledge is power and you've got it with "Seats"!
- Some of the seating plans are not readable because the print is very small. It would have been better if larger venues were printed on two pages to be able to read the seat numbers. Otherwise it is very comprehensive.
- "Seats", by Jode Susan Millman is an invaluable tool for anyone in the New York metropolitan area whom attends Broadway shows, concerts or sporting events. The book profiles over 150 venues, which include on and off Broadway theatres, Stadiums and all major indoor arena's. Take for example Madison Square Garden. Profiled are 4 different seating arrangements for, hockey, basketball, concerts and boxing/wrestling. They are all here and more, like famous landmarks, Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Beacon Theatre, Lincoln Center, Yankee Stadium, Giants Stadium, and even Long Island venues like the Nassau Coliseum, Jones Beach concert theatre and Westbury Music Fair[now called Northfork Theatre at Westbury]. I have used this book many times over the years, and it has always served me well. If I may quote actor James Earl Jones "For culture and sports lovers, Seats is the most practical gift imaginable". I can't disagree and highly recommend this encyclopedic New York venue tour deforce which will give friends and family members many years of enjoyment and knowledge. Who says great gifts have to be expensive!
