1 comments about New York's 50 Best Wonderful Little Hotels.
- I hope they keep updating this little gem I discovered one day at a local bookseller. I was looking for a spectacular way to make my new wife's birthday special, and this handy guide provided me with ALL the answers. I live in Manhattan and find its hotels to make up an important part of its eclectic culture. Sperry has pointed me to some wonderful small (and not so small) hotels that I've walked by a dozen times and never knew existed. A real treat . . . highly recommended.

- I have the Long Island version and now this one. Nice big print, only issue is matching the roads when they go off the page.

1 comments about The Out Traveler: New York City.
- Finally a guide for the traveler (who happens to be gay) which provides just the perfect amount of culture, local insight, history, places to eat, sleep, shop and things to do to round out a wonderful day in NYC. This was like a perfect meal - not too much or little, not to heavy or light, perfect spice...hit the spot.
Loved that it was organized by neighborhood. As I read it, I was reminded of great places I've been...and introduced to a good many to visit. So glad it was not the usual laundry list travel book. The history sections (and I am not a history buff) were a surprising, wonderfully written addition. Please do Chicago next!

1 comments about The Cool Parents' Guide to All of New York: Excursions and Activities in and Around Our City That Your Children Will Love and You Won't Think Are Too Bad Either (City and Company).
- I just returned from a week+ trip to NYC with my 9 year old and I thought that this book was very helpful. The authors describe a number of day trips to take with your child, including dining suggestions. It gives you lots of things to do in a small area and in NYC that is VERY important. I liked the notes on how to get to places on the subway and the small maps that pointed out the location of each thing they suggested for that "trip". As an out-of-towner what I found most helpful were the tips on kid friendly restaurants. There are a millions places to eat in NYC and it was nice to go to places that had been kid tested and enjoyed by adults.

3 comments about Greenmarket: The Complete Guide to New York City's Farmers Markets with 55 Recipes.
- Even if you don't live in New York, where Greenmarkets are THE place to buy the freshest and most delicious produce, you will use this book often. I frequently look up how to store different vegetables, and the photos help to figure out such things as which green is which. The recipes are simple, based as they are on being made from the best and freshest produce.
This book will inspire you toward a healthy use of vegetables.
- As someone who practically lives in the Union Square greenmarket, I greatly appreciate this very useful book. Perfect for both novice and gourmet chief alike (who frequently shop it the greenmarkets), it has excellent information about the selection, storing and preparation of the cornucopia of fruits and vegetables available in the greenmarkets. There are other useful sections about baked goods, cheese, flowers & houseplants, fish & seafood, honey & other bee products, milk & other dairy products, as well as poultry, meat & game. What I found very useful was the harvest calendar, located in the front of the book. Thanks to this book, I was able to prepare vegetables that I had never used before. The recipes are quite good too. This is a book that I often use, and it is one that should find a home on every kitchen shelf.
- I had picked this book up at a fundraiser for community gardens years ago and had forgotten about it--that is, until I finally got a spot in my local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) collective. I found my copy and was reminded as to just what a great guide to NYC Greenmarket produce this is. It's well-illustrated and has a guide to many of the items that you'll find, and how to use them.

3 comments about Where to Wear New York 2006: Fashion shopping from A-Z (Where to Wear: New York City Shopping Guide).
- The most amazingly organized, concise, factual shopping guide there is. A fabulous stocking stuffer.....stuffed with tidbits, locations, telephone #'s. Absolutely guaranteed to produce a call from you credit card company. This title, along with its worldwide sisters, should not be missed. If you're going through customs, leave the European ones with friends.....they're a sure tip off that you've been in a buying mode!
One of the best Christmas present/stocking stuffers.
- Extremely helpful for all fashionistas. Makes a great gift for clients as well. Very well researched and a fun read.
- Definitely covers all the good places but only has token "vintage" and "discount" entries and entirely ignores the 34th street shopping district in the garment district where there is a ton of stuff to be found. Focuses way too much attention on Soho. To be a fashionista in NYC though, you definitely need this book. One thing it needs to have is maps-by-neighborhood with the stores marked/numbered. Otherwise its hard to spend a day shopping, working from the book. You have to make your own map. But it is the only book of its type that I've seen so its a must have.
