2. As a veteran traveler I have always thought I pretty much knew a lot about various hotels in NYC. After getting a copy of this book I realize I did not know as much as I did. It is very helpful to anyone visiting New York City. Charles Suisman and his staff have meticulously rated 250 hotels from 5 star to near flop houses. A grand hotel like Four Seasons gets a rave. A bad hotel is spanked liked a naughty child. It isnt just a dry review of these establishments. He also interjects a lot humor. He awarded the Basil Fawlty Award for Inhospitality to the manager of the Hampshire Hotel and Suites. It is well researched. While the rates are the year 2000 it isn't difficult to figure out what they currently would be. It has 2 kinds of indexes...by type of hotel/inn and alphabetically with the rating so as to save you time. Before you check in to another New York hotel read this book. You won't regret it!!!

1. If you have been to New York and think you know everything about it, this is the book for you. Fresh, funny, and leads to interesting dinner time conversation!



2. Did you know that pickles originated in New York? This is a pretty mundane fact among a book FULL of interesting stuff. A bit more a wacky history book than a travel guide, but it will give you plenty of ideas for things to see and do, especially if you live in New York or have already seen the main touristy things. A very fun & interesting read, certainly not your run-of-the-mill book.

1. This book is a must for anyone who wants to know more about the "art" world, but doesn't know where to start. It has simple descriptions of all the main galleries in New York. So far I've only visited a few, but I'd have to say the author's descriptions were dead on. And it's pocket sized!

1. With its useful maps and anecdotal entries, this pocket-sized guide is the perfect companion for a day or a lifetime spent in the New York metropolitan area. It lists location, atmosphere, menu items, tap and bottled beer brands of all the important and some not so important watering holes in NYC and beyond. I never leave home without it. I am constantly making notes and additions to it though as it is slowly become dated. I only pray there is a revised edition on the way.
