1. Lonely Planet New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, is a great book to have if you intend to visit all three states. There information is second to none, except New York City (buy Lonely Planet's New York City Guide). The entire Pennsylvania chapter is excellent also, and the guides to specific places like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and the Lake Erie region is first rate! The only problem is that they skipped Meadville, PA, which is a excellent place between Erie and Titusville, and is near places like Conneaut Lake and Pymantuning.



2. I was impressed with Lonely Planet's guide to Texas, so I bought this one for a trip to Pennsylvania. It covers the major stuff --- Philly, Pittsburgh, Gettysburg, Hershey, Lancaster --- but doesn't have much more than these major areas. I got ahold of the Moon Handbook for Pennsylvania and was...impressed. It guided me to places I never knew existed: Covered bridges dotting southwestern Pennsylvania, non-tourist infested Amish communities in central and western PA, winieries in North East, and the hiking paradise that I found in the Black Forest area. However, LP did a good job at the places it did cover, and I used it to select accomodations. Guess I justed wanted something a little more in-depth.

1. This is a restaurant guide for those of you looking for really good food with a wide variety of ethnic cuisine and without the ridiculously pompous nature of your typical five-star. If you go out to eat for the snooty service and to drop a bunch of money, don't buy this book. However, if your focus is on the quality and variety of the food you are eating, with fancy service as a secondary concern, this is the book for you. That is not to say the restaurants in this book lack decent service....Many have excellent service and swanky locals. Some may also have dismal decor and downright cranky staff (read hole-in-the-wall). But they all have great food in common. One of the great things about New York is experiencing the wide variety of flavors and cooking styles available in this melting pot. You won't find me in New York without this book close by.

1. I bought this book used from Amazon. Wow. If you are looking for a guidebook for gardens in the UK this is it. NOT a picture book. Organized for easy use. Maps for each county keyed to property descriptions. Good descriptions with hours, entrance fees and features for each garden. 648 Wonderful pages. If you LOVE gardens and want to know where to go you won't be sorry with this book.

1. This is a great book for tourists and New Yorkers alike who are on a budget. It is filled with valuable information on where to shop, eat, visit, and stay. If only Mr Cheap could tell us how to get the book cheaper!

1. I found this book riveting and informative. Cy Adler's unique knowledge of the paths and trails around New York City's waterfront and the Hudson River is wonderfully demonstrated in this helpful guide.



2. This is the only guide I found that had enough detail and info to get a directionally challenged biker through some of the tricky breaks in the paths up the Hudson and over the George Washington Bridge. Interesting as well as useful for walkers and even bikers in NY. A terrific resource.
