5 comments about Fodor's Flashmaps New York City, 7th edition: The Ultimate Map Guide (Flashmaps).
- I bought this book a little over a year ago and have used it for several business trips. It is small and easy to carry, doesn't look touristy, and gives me a lot of confidence getting around Manhattan. The best $ I ever spent. You know how some people just seem to "know" New York even though they don't live there? Well, that's me now.
- Certainly veteran New Yorkers will snicker that they don't need "Fodor's Flashmaps New York" to get around town. And they may very well be right. However, as a New Yorker with many international friends I field countless queries about what to do in New York City when you get here. Let's be honest...the Big Apple is gigantic. And no matter how well versed you are about New York City...things change so quickly in this town that it is smart to have this tidy little book around just in case you happen to suffer from brainlock.
And then of course sometimes friends ask for help for things for the kids or for their young teens. Moreover, some queries are specifically for daylight hours, nightlife, weekend activities or happenings in boroughs outside of Manhattan. This text can help. Additionally, Fodor's includes essential telephone numbers for hotels, places of worship, ballparks, schools and universities, airports, transportation, museums, art galleries, parks, shopping, dining, theaters, movies, libraries, consulates, hospitals and hip nightlife activities. Fodor's even provides zip codes but no e-mail addresses. This book is a great tool. It's small and can easily slip into the inside of your sports coat or if you have a normal size purse, just pop it in and you're set. Or better yet...carry it around in your back pocket (it fits). There are 61 maps and thousands of listings. It will help you walk around, take buses, ride the subways or take railways into the suburbs. In my opinion it clearly is worth the investment for metropolitans or for anyone who wants to visit New York City. One thing is for sure...it will save you plenty of time, and as everyone knows...time is an important commodity. Bert Ruiz
- I dont know how the conversation started, but I was at the Union Square store of a major competitor of Amazon, lets just call it FarmStructures & Nobel Booksellers, and the security guard told me that he had relied on this book as a native New Yorker for years. So I bought it.
And now *I* have relied on it for years. Whether you are looking for where the D train crosses the 7 or where exactly Cornelia Street is anyway, this book is excellent. Museums, movie theaters, road maps and highways are all here. The shopping and restaurants sections are good for out-of-towners looking for the classics, less useful for New Yorkers looking for the next new thing, obviously. Its small, convenient, and well-drafted (the maps themselves are different colors so you can readily find what youre looking for as you flip through yellow is street /subway; pink is daytime attractions; black/blue for nighttime attractions). All in all, anybody living in or visiting New York frequently would find this useful. If you are a one-time tourist, though, youre probably better off going with something more comprehensive like Lonely Planet. Enjoy!
- I highly recommend that when you visit NYC you carry a copy of Flashmaps with you. It's a convenient subway and bus map, shows you all the neighborhoods, museums, post offices, etc. But the thing I use the most is the cross street lookup, which I relied on not just while new in NYC but also as a long-time resident.
I discovered the NYC Flashmaps many years ago when I asked a limo driver exactly where a business address was. He pulled out his Flashmaps, turned to the cross street page and told me the exact cross street in well... a flash. He told me no professional driver and no New Yorker should be without it. I bought my first copy that day and have been telling residents and vistors alike for years.
- Totally portable, accurate and inexpensive. I would not venture out in Manhattan without this booklet in my bag.

1 comments about Fly Fishing Long Island: A Comprehensive Guide to Freshwater & Saltwater Angling (Countryman Guide).
- Robert Banfelder, author of psychological thrillers and outdoors writer ([...])
The Teacher The Author No Stranger Than I
Comprehensive is the key word in describing Angelo Peluso's treatise on fly-fishing Long Island's coastline and its compassing inland waters--covering both salt and sweet. The book is truly a fly angler's treat. But how can a guidebook packed with information, advice, directions, maps and photographs on the subject be so all-inclusive in a mere 256 pages? The answer is that Peluso spoon-feeds you firsthand, pertinent knowledge acquired through his three-and-a-half decades of fly-fishing. What is not really relevant is not included. What is germane to the game is there for you to digest: baitfish and their proven patterns, be it imitations or representations; our homegrown veteran tiers who either invented or expanded upon these prototypes, as well as the season(s) in which to seek the species of selection. Whether working our waters with the wand for stripers, bluefish, weakfish, fluke, Atlantic bonito, false albacore, Spanish mackerel, shad, shark, even skipjack and bluefin tuna of late, this guide most magically covers it all. How about blackfish, cod, pollock, porgies, sea bass and dolphin (mahi-mahi) by way of the long rod, too? These opportunities are being realized with greater regularity.
Freshwater fly-fishing for trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass, pickerel, carp, perch, crappies and other assorted panfish are covered in comparable detail as well. Peluso could have filled a tome and written it well. Conversely, the book could have been narrowly particularized. What the author achieved is exactly what the title denotes: FLY FISHING LONG ISLAND: A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO FRESHWATER & SALTWATER ANGLING It is a succinct and sound accomplishment.
Homing in on the species in our area, whether they swim in the brine, brackish, or warm waters, is certainly exciting. Honing our skills in order to nail these pelagic speedsters, down to pan-size fry on a fly, can be a challenging if not a daunting experience. The difference between fishing and catching is to pick up a copy of Angelo Peluso's guidebook and absorb (like a sponge) the invaluable information set between its covers. As a matter of sheer fact, it serves as a companion piece to Mr. Peluso's previous undertaking: SALTWATER FLIES OF THE NORTHEAST (published in 2006).
These two gems, FLY FISHING LONG ISLAND, along with SALTWATER FLIES OF THE NORTHEAST, are guaranteed to take the guesswork out of what many newcomers to the sport feel is an arcane art. I adhere to that age-old adage that "everything is easy once you know how." Angelo Peluso takes the enigma out of this fun-filled, gratifying recreation. FLY FISHING LONG ISLAND is literally a `must read' for all seasons: springtime for openers, summer surprises, the fall run for sure, even winter for the die-hards. It is also for the seasoned angler who may be visiting our shores--truly a fly fisher's paradise. Angelo Peluso tells and shows you how to enter that kingdom.
If I may take the liberty of offering a word of sound advice to fly-fishing anglers of all levels, please read FLY FISHING LONG ISLAND with a yellow highlighter in hand. You'll be glad you did. Mark my words . . . and Angelo's. They will serve as your go-to reference in targeting your prospective trophy.

- I cannot put this book down. It is quite the tome! The material in the book is quite fascinating. I feel like when I read Green Enchantments that i am in a green field at the base of a majestic Catskill Mountain. I reccomend this book for hikers as well as nature lovers. This book is a natural high that is quite addictive.............Bravo Mr. Boyajian!I can't wait to read any additional books written by you!
- Spending so much time as a kid and then as an adult with my own children, I am surprised at just how much there is to know about the Catskills. I thought I had it all covered. Reading your book has opened up alot for future trips with my family, especially the "festivals" section which the kids love. Good job!!!
- Michael Boyajian not only communicates a massive amount of information about the Catskills, he gets under the surface to reveal the soul and depth of this special region. Green enchantments, indeed!

5 comments about Manhattan Unfurled.
- I bought Manhattan Unfurled as a gift, and that is how I rate it.
Personally, I was disappointed. I was expecting a more detailed work done is a stronger, classic pen and ink style. The the casual cartoon style however is charming and really does not detract from the impact of the book. Manhattan Unfurled is best appreciated when unfurled. Anyone who adores Manhattan will love this book, stretching out the pages and oohing and ahhing over the vista.
- This book is charming, the cover and slipcase make it look special, the reader feels the book has to be very good to be housed in such a well crafted good looking presentation. But once you have looked at the line drawing and followed it from one end to the other you feel a little foolish having spent your money on something so wispy. And yet the book is charming, so it takes all its value when offered as a gift so that its owner can enjoy it without the remorse of the money spent..
- I bought this book so that my children could one day see the Manhattan skyline as I fell in love with it. It's fun to note the small details in the drawings--I think I notice something new each time I open it up.
Given the excellent presentation with the slipcase, etc., this book is an awesome gift for anyone who loves NYC. The artwork is solid, but not too formal, giving just the right feeling to the buildings. This book would also be a fun springboard for children to use to draw panoramic skylines of their own home towns.
- I bought this one. Love NY, love illustration, love books. The thing is: it's not really a book. You can't read it, because there are only illustrations. There are no pages, or a logical sequence. You can't even open it, unless you have 12 foot long pair of arms. You can't mount it on the wall, or you'll loose the other side. It feels really stupid to have this "book" on your hands. Because although you know you can't use it, you still got to have it.
- Very beautiful unfoldable view of Manhattan from both the East and the West side. Specially good is the utilization of black and white which makes it much more elegant.

3 comments about The Museum of Modern Art New York (Abradale Books).
- There are no greater storehouses of modern art in the world than MOMA in New York, a treasure house of many of the greatest works of the century. Any place you can find Dali, Magritte, Pollock, Picasso and Warhol rubbing shoulders is fine by me so this book is a real delight. For those of you who love the work of the 20th century, this is a must. For those of you who don't get it, get a life and get this book.
- this is a collectable book that will always be returned to whether to browse or find information. the quality of the paper makes the pictures perfect and a great joy to look through..
this is a true account of modern art in its brightest forms..it is wonderful to see this publication when so many contemporary art books fail in quality.
- Fabulous art collections by the modern masters - complete with many descriptions of the pieces. Papers used are great to touch, pictures are lovely to see and a great binding with dust jacket. A wonderful treat to add to your library. Buy it, you won't regret it!
