1. This book documents the rise and fall of this once flourishing spa resort village. Although much has changed since the book was written in the early 1980's, it summarizes and reflects the history of the village at the time. There is a new book published by the Sharon Historical Society called, "Reflections on Sharon", a pictorial history from 1797-1997 which details 200 years of the town & village. It also documents the more recent history through 1997 and illustrates Sharon's current push towards revitalization with the infusion of new residents and businesses.Only 1000 books were printed and they are already almost sold out. 1. My wife and I sent this book to my father/in/law who grew up in lower Manhattan many years ago. He thoroughly enjoyed all the postcards, the narrative information and the entire "front to back" history. There were many informational definitions of locations of which he was not aware. He was reminded of many memories as he paged through the book and was enjoying daily reviews of the book time and time again.

1. Finally, I found it. I moved to the Finger Lakes area (Rochester, NY) in 1996 and every time I visited a local book store I looked for some kind of travel guide for the area and I could never find one that wasn't hiking or cycling related. When I saw this one, I had to buy it and I don't regret it. It came very handy for the summer so far. It includes some of the history of each of the finger lakes and its towns. It also includes places to see and visit, where to stay and where to eat. A very good section is the one that lists all the area festivals and the dates when they usually occur. The list can help you plan ahead, either to visit when the festivals are taking place or to avoid them. Another part of the book that is very helpful is the maps section. It has maps for the different finger lakes areas, w/ main roads, etc. And if you want to know about the area wineries, it has a whole chapter on wineries. I have found that this book can be used by a local as well as tourist to the Finger Lakes area, it is very complete.

1. Some of the stories were good, but too much emphasis on orange and Rockland. In fact my favorite story, Tom Quick is actualy a Delaware Valley tale. Not a horrible book, but I would only recomend to those interseted in Orange and Rockland county. More for history buffs then hikers.



2. This is a wonderful book for anyone interested exploring the Hudson Valley and its history. I've been to Claudius Smith's Den and the iron mines of Harriman State Park, walked the towpath of the D&H Canal, climbed the Indian Ladder, explored the wildlife sanctuary at Iona Island, marveled at the amazing art of Opus 40 and enjoyed hiking in Goosepond Mountain and Winding Hills Parks. Until reading this book, I'd never heard of most of these places. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the adventures it made possible.
