1. Some of the stories were good, but too much emphasis on orange and Rockland. In fact my favorite story, Tom Quick is actualy a Delaware Valley tale. Not a horrible book, but I would only recomend to those interseted in Orange and Rockland county. More for history buffs then hikers.



2. This is a wonderful book for anyone interested exploring the Hudson Valley and its history. I've been to Claudius Smith's Den and the iron mines of Harriman State Park, walked the towpath of the D&H Canal, climbed the Indian Ladder, explored the wildlife sanctuary at Iona Island, marveled at the amazing art of Opus 40 and enjoyed hiking in Goosepond Mountain and Winding Hills Parks. Until reading this book, I'd never heard of most of these places. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the adventures it made possible.

1. This is the perfect guide book for people who want to see the city in depth. A friend of mine told me I have the place gene, and THE COMPANION GUIDE books fill that need better than any other guide books. What are some of the most stunning office building interiors in NYC? Where is Peter Stuyvestant buried? Why is NYC the best possible place for the U.N., the headquarters of the world?
   It is so well written that you can read it for the sheer pleasure of the prose, but each chapter is organized as a walk, and I am chomping at the bit to head out on them all. Great book!

1. I was so happy to find this book. I live right across the river from Roosevelt Island and have always been interested in the history of the island. So when I found this book I was very excited. It is very informative and the photos are a wonderful look into the past.
