1. It's a very interesting guide for people who already know the city because it?s completely different from traditional guides. It gives you the kind of tips and advises only smart people who live in NY can give you. The language is Spanish and for Argentinan people it would act as a "friend?s advice". It contains infromation, of many types (prices, gossips,etc), about almost every restaurant,bar,club, museum in de city, divided in areas, so it's really easy to find what you are looking for. It also makes you save money because the author, who is a journalist, "really" knows NY, gives you the dates where the museums are free, where you can find special bargains, what to shop in each place, how to know the most fashionable places for $15, etc. For hollywood fans he also shows you the places where the famous people eat and live or used to. In few words, after visiting the city with this guide you will know the city more than people who have bee there many, many times...

1. It is a shame that this book has not received the critical attention that it justly deserves. I discovered Andrew Roth's volume in Chicago's "Savvy Traveler" book store, and I took it with me during a four day getaway to Manhattan last year. It is much more than a guidebook to the notorious, though he provides us with a "roadmap" to tourist sites that are well off the beaten path. Mr. Roth is a compelling storyteller who dusts off the famous and forgotten news stories and brings them back to life. Mob assassinations, famous holdups, disasters, it's all here and it is clear to me that the author has an appreciation for the finer details of his stories, and is caught up in the subject matter. Mr. Roth must have devoted a lot of time to gathering the research from newspapers and secondary sources, and then tracking down the crime scenes to see which buildings remain, and what part of our history that has been lost. Without question this was a real labor of love for the author, and I look forward to seeing more of his work in the future.

1. This is the best book on/about NYC, for Virgos anyway. If you can appreciate a step by step approach to getting to know NYC then this is the book for you. It goes through all the neighborhoods, shows you buildings, historical sites, shopping, trains, restaurants, quirks, whatever! I've lived in the NYC region all my life and discovered things about NYC I never knew existed!



2. I have used this series of books for a few different cities and it is my favorite travel book. It is well organized, easy to read, gives great walking tours and information on every section of the city. I love it and have bought it as gifts or loaned our copy (reluctantly) to others.
