  1. This book has something to do in almost every city of New Mexico. It has a lot of information that is well worth reviewing before taking a trip in New Mexico.

There is contact addresses and phone numbers if the information in this book is not enough, you can call and write for more. There are lists of annual community events, things to see, campgrounds, places to go, stuff to do from fishing to golfing to shopping. In other words, if you have children and want an activity for a certain area, this is the book to turn to.

I particularly liked the picture icons that are in front of each attraction. It made it easy to find a place to camp. The icons also made it easy to quickly rule out or read more about a place listed. I also felt that this book was logically seperated into different areas of NM (for example, Northern NM).

I think this is a must have book for those traveling with kids. We keep it in the car when we travel and refer to it before we reach a town. This way we can quickly review if we want to stop at an attraction in this town or travel on ahead and save our time for a later attraction.

  1. This book is a great study of how the land has been impacted by settlements in variuos areas throughout NM, AZ, and CA. The photos are great. Some more dynamic than others. But a curiousity brews as you look through this publication. I hope this author continues her questioning through further investigation and shares it with everyone.

  1. Living in Mexico provides a lot of information for retirees. They also have a lot of interesting history and cultural info. I found the section on visas, money, and services to be helpful but rather brief. Also includes a brief review of several cities.

  2. Zamba's information is too brief to provide much guidance to anyone serious about relocating. But even more important to note is that this book was published in 1991, so all statistics and facts are nine years out of date. There are far better books at Amazon than this.

  3. Never judge a book by its cover! While this book has a good title, it's also misleading. The information is either scant or simply obsolete. There are better books about living in Mexico written by better writers.

  4. Although Mr. Zamba's book was written more than 10 years ago, the general information is still useful. Prices change (devaluations and inflation) and communities grow (like Chapala and San Miguel). For me, that is not as important. Instead, the writer seems to have an excellent understanding of Mexico and its people -- both of which are very valuable. Moving from the United States to Mexico is a big decision, and this book helps guide a person (particularly beginners) through that process.

  1. For those who cannot view the Smithsonian traveling exhibit of the same title, this is an excellent substitute. The 60 plates depict the schoolhouses, diplomas, playground equipment, teaching aids, and housing quarters. The text also chronicles the rise and ruin of these schoolhouses, most of which are now gone.

  1. Not a bad book if you looking at the areas of Northern Baja and the Cabo San Lucas area. Out of 258 pages about 130 pages cover these area while only 58 cover the remainder. There are much better books out there.

  2. Richard Harris' updated third edition Hidden Baja covers everything from beaches and lodging to outdoor adventure travel in Baja, providing details on a wealth of outdoor activities for those who are oriented toward adventure travel. Lesser-known byways of the region are the focus in a title packed with tips on travel through the region.
