1 comments about Carlsbad Caves and a Camera.
- If you're a caver or just interested in caving, this book is a lot of fun. The Guadalupe Mountains of New Mexico are home to some of the world's most beautiful caves, including Carlsbad Caverns and Lechuguilla Cave. This book describes Robert Nymeyer's adventures and misadventures with his buddies in the high Guadalupe caves. The descriptions of early vertical caving techniques using lariats and the photographs taken with flash powder are priceless examples of what folks will do when bitten by the exploration bug.

1 comments about Adventure Guide to New Mexico (Adventure Guide).
- I used this book as a guide for a two-week driving trip through New Mexico. It was fantastic! I was especially glad I took it along -- because I lost a day due to a flat tire and it was so easy to change my plans and not feel like I was missing out on something great. The details are excellent and the authors must have truly enjoyed researching the restaurants, lodging, and points of interest. Good choices, all!

3 comments about Roads of New Mexico (The Roads of).
- This is an excellent backroads atlas to the state of New Mexico. We have used it on several backroads adventures since it was published in 1990 and have found it indespensible. It's similar to the DeLorme atlases, but a little easier to read, I think.
- This large format atlas is roughly equivalent to the Delorme New Mexico atlas, but isn't nearly as pretty. There are no contour lines or land-use boundaries, just B+W road maps. The base data is different, however, so it could be a useful supplement to Delorme. This one comes from official State of New Mexico maps, so it contains information on the status of dirt roads that Delorme doesn't have (since Delorme comes from USGS sources). If you do a lot of dirt road exploring, this atlas could be very helpful. Outside of big towns, this atlas even shows individual houses and windmills.
- We'd have all had to find something else to spend money on. I have both in several states. The end of the road features .... when a two-track becomes a cow trail, are better on these than on Delorme. On the other hand, Delorme has Long/Lat in the margins, contour lines and prettier features. These just have solid information indicating everything from a fence to a farmhouse. I wouldn't want to have to choose one over the other. Nice to live in a world where a person can own both.

4 comments about LA Vida Nortena: Photographs of Sonora, Mexico.
- Superb black and white photographs, with accompanying essays, concentrate on ordinary people. The result transcends its geographic region; this is about people who just happen to live in Sonora. Winner, Border Regional Library Association's 1998 Southwest Book Award.
- This book is incredible -- an honest and sensitive portrait of life in the changing Sonoran desert. I picked it up yesterday and haven't been able to stop looking at it since. Apart from the photography, there are two wonderful essays. In the second, "Another Country", Thomas E. Sheridan tells of falling in love with a place in a way that speaks intimately to my own experience of and passion for Mexico. But I'd better stop before I give a whole dissertation... Buy this book! You won't regret it.
- Beautiful tribute to ordinary people of Sonora. I came across it while doing research on my family at the time of the Mexican Revolution and it didn't help for that paper, but it was a great viewing nonetheless. The photographs are incredible.
- I came across some of the still photos from this book in a video on Youtube -- of a song called "Who's Gonna Build Your Wall?" Mr. Burckhalter is a magician with a camera. He has captured truly incredible portraits of Mexicans/Sonorans -- some of the most proficient, touching photos I've ever seen. These are photos of TRUTH and BEAUTY. I am highly recommending the book based on my viewing of the Youtube video.

1 comments about The New Key to Cancun and the Yucatan.
- I was looking for more detail about the area. For instance, the hotel we chose was not listed. I had read that there was a place in the area where we could swim with the dolphins and that information was not listed in this book. If you are looking for general information this is a good book.
