1. This book is pretty much what you would expect from Frommers. A good book showing what to do, with a certain kind of audience in mind. I would have to say its not for the backpacker type or the budget traveler. But good if you are a don't get your feet wet kind of a person. ....



2. So many guidebooks! If you're going to the area, how do you know which to get? I just spent an hour flipping through all of the Cancun/Cozumel/Yucatan books at a local bookstore, and this looks like the best all-around for our trip to Cozumel. So for all you shoppers out there: I haven't been on the trip yet, but for what its worth, an hour of browsing determined this book the winner.



3. Just back from two weeks in Cancun and I found this book to be indespensible! The Maps were very acurate and I found the resturant rating system to be reliable. I can't say much about hotel ratings as I stayed at the same place the entire time. I think it would be hard to find a better all around guide book. Also check out "A Tourist in the Yucatan" fun thriller



4. I spent the last three weeks in the Yucatan (and I had a wonderful time!), and found this to be a reliable guide. The rating system is dependable, the maps helpful, and for the most part the info is up to date. I will say this, you might concidering more than one guide book as all of them seem to have some defficincies. This would be most important for the independent travler and the travler who is planning to get away from the major resorts. You might also consider buying good maps.



5. I am not sure the person who wrote the chapter on Isla Mujeres is familiar with the metric system. "1 km or 1.6 miles." The back of the book has a conversion chart showing that 1km = .62 miles. They make this conversion mistake all throughout this chapter.

1. Dorothy Hoard doesn't just present a book on hiking the Los Alamos outdoors. She leads the hiker on a guided tour of the environs, its geology, its people, its natural and social history. She walks the walks of the ancient Pueblo Indians as she explores the niches of their art, lifestyle, and work. She introduces the hiker to the area's unique rock and land formations, and the fragile yet resourceful flora, while inviting the hiker to appreciate the strength of this ancient land and the art and work of its innovative people. This is a book not just about hiking; this is a book about discovery in the land of the Ancients.

1. I took a 2 week road trip through Baja, so I know something about the place. Sadly, from these 2 weeks, I know infinitely more about Baja than the author of this book. It is terrible.

   First of all, the title is misleading -- rather than describing both Southern California and Baja with roughly equal lengths, the author dedicates only 45 of 337 pages to Baja. Secondly, what he does describe is often incomplete, poorly presented, INACCURATE, and/ or useless. If you're going to Baja, get the Peterson's "Baja Adventure Book", which is much better.

   Don't buy this book for Southern California, either, because it is equally useless in this respect. I spent a few days there, and this book didn't help me at all.

   I wish that I hadn't wasted my money on this book.




2. Since I moved to San Diego two years ago I've used this book on a regular basis. It's a great cross-section of outdoor activities for people like me who like to do a wide variety of outdoor sports. I spend a lot of time hiking plus enjoy ocean activities such as scuba diving and hanging out at the beach. This book showed me places I'd never have found otherwise.

1. Fray Angelico Chavez takes us on a tour de force ride through the landscape of the Southwest and especially of New Mexico. This is a magical romp through history of the New World as pertaining to the New Mexico, which is the land, where Fray Angelico Chavez feels at home in. This is a fictionalized historical account, which seems fantastic at time, and it is very addictive read, considering that it deals with history, but does so in very entertaining, and magnetic way. Anyone interested in the Southwest should read this book as it will enlighten, and educate. It contains classical, biblical, and native american allusions, references, and influences. The brethen of Don Quixote also make appearance, and seem very much at home in the strange landscape of the new world. Penitentes walk through bearing their crosses. Read it, and you will never look at the Southwest in quite the same way again.

1. Keep this book at the top of your pack. All the information is concise and up date. Even though this book is published in '95 the best places are still there. We refered to it during both our trips and found it a must have. Please have these guys get out to our next destination. They saved us stress and time from where to by dinner to where to sleep they covered it all.
