1. This is one of a pair of books by Johnson which gives detailed information for cruising the coast of Maine. The companion book is Cruising Guide to Maine Vol II Rockport to Eastport. The books provide an excellent set of discriptions of the various ports and thier attractions including restaruants, marine supplies, fuel water etc. The books are loaded with charts that show prefered routes into tricky harbors with rocks and other obstructions clearly identified. A must for the cruising sailor who wants to explore the mysteries and splendor of the Maine coast.

1. This book is an absolute neccessity for anyone planning to do extensive flatwater paddling in Maine. The book divides maine into regions and then gives detailed descriptions of the most choice paddling spots in those regions. Each overall description entails a map of the lake, general decription of the lake (scenery,fish species,things to look for etc.), campsite reservation numbers if neccesary, and most important DETAILED DIRECTIONS. Unless you are confining your paddling to the southern region, most of the lakes will require driving on winding dirt logging roads that can confuse even the most seasoned forester(I know I was one). However with this book, I was able to find the put in with ease every time. Happy Paddling!

1. What a gem of a little postcard guide to the Maine that most of us only remember as children, or as recollections in stories told by our parents and grandparents! I've purchased two as gifts and am ordering my third copy. It's fun to leaf through this south-to-north coastal travelogue and discover that not all of these scenes have disappeared, and that some Maine coastal landmarks from the Victorian era have been preserved for us to enjoy, as our grandparents did. This is the kind of a "rainy day book" that belongs on the nightstand of every Maine summer house and deep woods cabin. A delightful guide to old Maine that leaves you wishing for volume after volume of postcards from the good old days!
