- I love all of the InsideOut books. After using my first one on a trip to Washington, DC, I purchase a new one for every place I visit. The small size makes it easy to slip into a purse or pocket, and the fold-out maps in each cover make getting around easy. It even has a little flip-up compass in the spine, so if you get turned around on city streets you can quickly orient yourself again. There is even a handy pen in the spine.

- I work in tourism, so I'm required to know all I can about Vegas. Castleman's Las Vegas is more than another guide. It can be read like an exciting novel that you don't want to put down. Or it's index makes it a quick reference tool. It's all here. History, the characters, the gaming, the hotels, weddings, maps, side trips, bargains - everything in a good size to carry and read on the plane.
By the time you land, you will feel like a Vegas veteran and save time and money. Besides a great read, this book is worth the price simply for the fantastic photography.
- This is not your typical tour book. The author acutally suceeds in being entertaining as well as informative. Las Vegas is made tangible and not just rated in terms of good or bad.
The typical tour book stuff is here including hotel rates and restaurant reviews. However, if you want to know more, it's there. It provides the description of a hotel as well as detailing its history. In Vegas, even the hotels have personality. Every subject is handled in a like manner. This has the added bonus of making the book feel more like a narative. There are small excerpts from popular authors for even more perspective. Perhaps, perspective is the right word for this book. The reader is treated to a point of view and not just a vague recollection of facts and figures. This is the first tour book I ever read cover to cover. Though it has some slow parts, over all it is a great quick history / guide of Las Vegas. Even if you've been there, you'll find amusement in some of the tales or info included. I did.
- This is not your typical tour book. The author is more interested and making you know about Las Vegas then telling you about it. Las Vegas is made tangible and not just rated in terms of good or bad.

- How good is this book? Another guidebook recomedns reading it! This book gives great insight into the history of Las Vegas as well as the individual hotels. While it is a little short on specific information, this guide more than makes up for it with specacular color photography and well written articles. A must read for those who want to know more than what the Chamer of Commerce or the Convention and Visitors Bureau will admit.

1 comments about Business Traveler Guide to Las Vegas (Business Traveler Guides).
- I just got back from Las Vegas and used this guide as a reference. It helped me save a fortune, plus helped me improve every aspect of my trip. I had never been to Las vegas before and went to attend a convention. This book offered great advice about where to stay, where to eat, what shows to see and how to navigate around the convention center. I highly recommend this book to all business travelers!!! It's a valuable resource and trip planning tool.

- Okay so it isn't as fancy as one of those units that talk to you in your car. It is low tech, but has sure kept us from getting lost so far. And we haven't found any streets not in it yet, which as fast as Las Vegas is growing is really saying something.

5 comments about 101 Things for Kids in Las Vegas.
- Great insights into a potentially overwhelming city! It was almost like I was there with Carol, at times! Call me a Stout-groupie! Great book! Great author!
- I live 3 hours away from Las Vegas and never go because of my kids. I went recently to meet a relative for the weekend and fell in love with the city! Now I cant wait to take my kids...Ive booked a room for 3 nights in March and am looking forward to getting this book...I have the one for Southern California and use it all the time!
- We bought this book last summer when we took our two sons to Las Vegas. The guide was very helpful, it gives lots of detailed info such as parking, prices, hours of operation, and numbers to contact. My only "complaint" would be that it is almost TOO much information, they have so many things listed, lots of off beat places, that if you are going there for a short time (like we were) and want to hit just the "big" places, you have to weed through a lot of information to get it. They should have it organized better. But it is definatly worth getting.
- This book does a decent job of just mentioning a bunch of facts, but I found that other similar books such as Open Road Publishing's "Las Vegas with Kids" 2nd edition or even Frommer's book with the same title do a better overall job. One problem is that the edition that I received (last week) was published in 1999. The kid friendly aspects of Vegas has changed since then. Some hotels are no longer kid friendly (by choice). For example, the book speaks of the MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park as an awesome place, but it closed back in 2000. Also, the other mentioned books seem to give more advice about WHAT to do rather that just listing everything that's available. I want to know what to do and what to skip. I want advice, not just a listing of all available destinations. A chapter on suggested itineraries would have been nice. After buying this book, I found that I needed to supplement it with the other Vegas with Kids travel books.
- I fail to see how anyone could say this book is great. First of all if you live in Las Vegas like I do chances are the you already know the 10 things there are to do with kids here. Secondly many of the attactions are closed or have changes, the TI show is not as kid friendly as it once was, and the arcade as well as wet and wild have closed! Save your money and call the chamber of commerce they will give you all the information in this book for free!

5 comments about Access Las Vegas 5e (Access Las Vegas).
- While I have enjoyed the compact format of Access Las Vegas with its color-coded run-down's of various restaurants, casinos and hotels in the past, I found this edition to be slightly out-of-date, especially in the section on shows (featuring several that closed or changed stars prior to January 2000). I enjoyed the featured "Bests" comments by local Las Vegas personalities and trivia boxes with interesting Vegas facts. However, [..] for 140 pages [..] I found this to be a little pricey.
- In 1996 I purchased several books about Las Vegas for a trip I was planning. I found that the third edition of this book, Access Las Vegas, was a great source of information. I found the maps and the information cross referenced to them especially helpful. Plus the size of the book made it very easy to take along as you explored Las Vegas. Since I was highly impressed with the 3rd edition I decided to purchase an updated book for our up coming trip.
Upon looking thru the book for the additions to the ever-changing landscape of The Strip, it became apparent that the map of the strip was filled with errors. Based on their map the Monte Carlo was built on the site of New York New York. The MGM Grand has moved east on Tropicana Ave. New York New York has moved to the site of the Tropicana and the Tropicana has moved off of the map. The Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay are not even referenced on the map. The majority of the maps cross-references for the Strip are inaccurate. Did anyone with any knowledge of Las Vegas check these maps before they were published? If the maps are this inaccurate what other information is incomplete or inaccurate? It is a real shame for what was a great vacation guide to become useless. I am highly disappointed in that Mr. Wurman produced in this 5th edition. I went to the Access Guides web site to see if they posted corrected maps for this book. Unfortunately they have not made corrections available. I looked for a way to email them about the problems with their book. However they did not offer that option. For correct maps of Las Vegas visit the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority web site. There are numerous other Las Vegas web sites with very useful information. My recommendation is to skip the book and use the web sites.
- I am a fan of the Access Guides because of their unique format, which divides a city into neighborhoods and then describes specific buildings, but this particular guide is a disaster. With this format, the neighborhood maps are especially important, and the most important of all - the map of the Strip - is riddled with errors. I counted 19 key buildings that were incorrectly located on this one map, including such landmarks as Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Paris, Aladdin, New York New York, MGM, and Tropicana. The New Frontier, a Strip hotel, is shown as being on Industrial Road! Who edited this debacle?
At the time I am writing this (early 2005), this 2000 edition is the most recent version available. It is shorter than the others in the Access series, about 140 pages, of which 20 pages are devoted to gambling tips. Coverage of the Strip and Downtown is thorough (if you can figure out where things are located), but outlying neighborhoods get less attention when compared to other guides in the Access series.
- We love the Access series travel guides and have been using them since 1988. Typically they are just absolutely great, we actually always buy one before traveling anywhere. They normally have maps of all locations in the book as well as convenient transportation maps, often times a mass transit route. This one did not have the tram service or trolley route, and our hotel although mentioned was not on the map. It also said that taxis were expensive when they were actually competitive to the mass transit and quicker. Normally Access does an especially good job of highlighting interest such as architecture and great restaurants. When we went looking for one restraunt it wasn't there. This is the first Access guide that has been a disappointment to us. There were many errors that we could not trust the map in the book. My husband actually said that we should get our money back.
We had just used the Los Angeles Access and were just as happy as we always have been with Access. The Las Vegas Access is just a dud. Every other one we bought we great.
- The Access series tends to be a great series of guide books and the Las Vegas book is well done for 2000 but it is 2007 and the amount of changes in Las Vegas has me begging for a complete overhaul and update to this book ASAP!
