1 comments about Colors of Italy.
- COLORS OF ITALY is but one of a series ('COLORS OF...') of photographic essays of various countries that serves both as a guide to those who plan to visit Italy and those for whom the memento saving camera was neglected during travels. Not purporting to be a complete coverage of all of Italy, this lushly illustrated photoessay does explore both the landscape, the aerial views of the cities, and the myriad sites both grand and small that charm the eye and the imagination. The color reproduction is outstanding.
There is minimal writing in Nicola Lancaster's survey of Italy, but enough to provide conversational information about the many vistas and points of interest to the reader. This may not be the definitive book for the topic, but the presentation is well designed and provides enough visual information to make true Italian lovers of every reader! Grady Harp, January 06

5 comments about Walking in Tuscany: A Walking Guide (Cicerone International Walking S.).
- Don't hesitate to spend some time walking in Tuscany. However, I'd advise anyone to stay far away from this book when doing so. A group of 5 of us used this book on a walk from Florence to Siena. We were completely lost within hours of setting out. The directions were ambiguous at best. It's as though the book was written by someone who didn't even do the trekking themselves. It wasted a great amount of our time (and when on a European vacation a great deal of money). Descriptions of the beautiful countryside were abundant while the specifics on little things like which way to turn were absent. In short, don't buy or use this book.
- I did both the no.29 "Sovana's Sunken Roadways and Necropolises" and no.30 "Sovana to Pitigliano the Old Way" walks and loved every minute of them. Italy is full of museums and archeological sites but this is ancient history out in the countryside! The sunken roads are fascinating gorges formed by the wheels of horse-driven vehicles that have worn ruts over the centuries in the soft rock called tufo. Sometimes these are up to 20 metres deep. We would never have discovered places so interesting and 'off the beaten track' without this book.
- A group of us (seasoned travelers) used this book as a guide. We only used it for a short time as it had very poor directions and wasted a lot of our time. I would recommend avoiding this product. It made for a frustrating time, albeit in a beautiful place.

- This book has poor directions and does not take you to the most interesting sites in Tuscany. A waste of money really...
