- the most beautiful and extraordinary book i've ever seen - an absolutely perfect gift for anyone who's ever been, wants to go, or plans to go to rome
- I received this book as a gift following a trip to Italy, and it proudly sits in my living room for all to see. It is a stunning book of photography which captures the beauty, grandeur and history of The Eternal City. The photos are magnificent. The only thing I'd change is to add the details of the photos on the pages, instead of at the end of the book, but this does not diminish from the beauty.

- Although this book is a good basic overview of travel in Italy, it is written in an unnecessarily pedantic style. I found other travel guides on Italy to be much more reader-friendly and useful.
- The great asset of the Cadogan series is the in-depth historical and cultural context that the authors set their desciptions in. While all of the usual nuts-and-bolts information on hotels, restaurants, nighlife, etc. is there, the emphasis is on really getting to know and appreciate the cultures you are travelling through, rather than just being able to name the Top 5 sights in each city and take home postcard shots of each. If you read this book, you'll come away with a whole new appreciation for the country and its people, and you'll understand why you've decided to travel there in the first place.

3 comments about Special Places to Stay Italy, 4th (Special Places to Stay).
- I bought the French B&B's title from this series for my belle-mere as we are both Francophiles and dream of a long saunter together through this beautiful country. She let me spend about five minutes with it, but I could tell she was desperate to get it back, so I purchased Italy, and French Holiday Homes for myself. I'm planning a holiday in Italy next year and this book is wonderful. And I say this as someone who works in a Travel Agency which specialises in Italy and France. The photographs and descriptions make you want to stay at each place. The little details make it easier to choose your accommodation. I just wish there were as many Italian books in the series as there are French. I know that I shall be collecting the whole series as guides, and just for dreaming.
- I haven't gotten that far into the book yet, but so far it's worth every penny. Great details and beautifully presented.
- I wish I had known that the hotels pay to be featured in this volume. Had I known I would not have purchased it. The author discloses that properties pay to be included, and the company does check them out; however, most of the properties are between $150 and $200 or higher per night. The book is well written and organized, buy only if you have lots of money to spend.

- Without fanfare, this book has been more than helpful. From spendthrift to affluence ...it lets me call the shots. Insightful reviews guide my trip of a lifetime ...and I need help. The logistical insights of important connection to the ancient while nurturing tourism avoidance within all possible bounds has been accomplished.
- This mini guide was an EXCELLENT companion on our recent Rome excursion. The top 25 sites section was particularly useful in determining what to see during our stay. Each of the 25 sites noted in the guide included a train/bus number reference and that was most helpful. Many travel guides do not include such info. You'll never miss with the Citypacks!
