1 comments about The Unofficial Guide to Ireland (Unofficial Guides).
- So many other books were full of pictures, but gave very brief and limited descriptions or facts about attractions. This book is just the facts, which I greatly appreciate. Having used the Unofficial Guide to Disney to plan a whirlwind trip, I knew that this series was very helpful. It provides customer rankings divided by age group (child, teen, young adult, senior, etc) for each attraction so that you can aim your trip for certain groups. Hotel, restaurant, and attraction information were great since many books don't go into much detail beyond major attractions. The book is an appropriate size to carry in a bag as you travel so that you always have info at hand. Books included touring tips and general info too. Great reference/resource. Includes price ranges, open/close times, addresses, and tele info too!

1 comments about Michelin Great Britain & Ireland (Michelin Map).
- This was a disappointing map with not the detail I was expecting. I have a much better one from AAA but it is 2001 and I was hoping for something similar with more detail of individual towns and cities but for 2008. It was okay for a quick review before getting into the car but it's size and "flimsyness" made it impossible to use in the car by the passenger in the front seat. Maybe a back seat passenger could have managed it.

3 comments about Dances With Waves: Around Ireland by Kayak (Another Ireland).
- This is a wonderfully athmospheric book of solo kayak travel around the wild and windswept coast of Ireland. Brian experiences whirlwinds, friendly dolphins (photos included), pirates and meets many unusual and friendly people on his 1200 mile trip. Experience the Irish weather and coastal communities as they really are. A really enjoyable read.
- An enjoyable account of Wilson's epic journey around the Emerald Isle. Fascinating background info on his compulsion to tour and his quest for sponsorship, followed by a vividly written account of the trip itself, including abduction by "pirates", the theft and return of his kayak and an unforgettable encounter with Fungie the dolphin. The author's genuine affection for Ireland and its fascinating culture permeates the book, and he includes snippets of history and myth that make the towns and islands he passes come to life. There are many laugh-out-loud anecdotes and encounters that you will feel compelled to read out loud to your spouse/roommate/dog. Wilson is an accomplished adventurer and a talented writer as well.
- An excellent read- which together with the authors first book, got me hooked on sea paddling. Not just a descriptive dairy of a journey around the coast of Ireland- but a great story of the people he met and the adventures he got into. In my view, the only sea kayaking book which is better is Blazing Paddles also by Brian Wilson

2 comments about The Garden Lover's Guide to Ireland (Garden Lover's Guides to).
- Terence Reeves Smyth brings to this, his most recent guide to the gardens of Ireland, the knowledge, commitment and passion characteristic of his earlier books on Irish demesnes, castles and gardens. A widely recognized authority in this field, he conveys clearly and engagingly to the reader and traveller, an invitation to roam throughout the island and discover the beauty of a wide range of gardens and parks. While gardens are the focus of this guide, he offers as well, descriptions of other sites, perhaps the best of which is the Crom Estate in
Fermanagh, where one can visit the finest ancient woodlands in Ireland and spend many a dreamy afternoon, gliding in a small boat on Lough Erne. The guide is set out in a very practical fashion, its size permitting thoroughly inviting descriptions of the gardens and information indispensable to the visitor, to appear on the same page. Accompanying the descriptions are captivating photographs, all but for one or two exceptions, taken by the author. One can only imagine from his charming narrative portraits of the gardens the hours he enjoyed, with their owners, while he undertook the preparation of this book. On a recent trip to Ireland I found this guide both a companion and an inspiration.
- This is an attractive but brief outline of many of the outstanding gardens in Ireland. Reeves-Smyth allots 2-5 paragraphs per garden and uses good graphics to help you find your way around the gardens.
If you are planning a trip to view gardens, this is a lovely guide. If you are looking for more indepth information and images, it is rather slim.
