- This book is GREAT!!! The color pictures are fantastic and are something that everyone can enjoy. This book also has detailed information about the history of Hawaii. Your travel agent probably could not give you this much info.
- I bought this guidebook and some others. What this has is great pictures, and some highlights. If all you need is something to start your planning, this is good. But if you want a guidebook that recommends lots of hotels, restaurants, and other outings, look elsewhere as well.
- After using the very thorough NG traveler guides for Boston and New York, I found this one to be a disappointment. Many of the attractions in Hawaii are overrated and not as large in scale as the prospective tourist is lead to believe. It was also disappointing to find megabuck admission fees at locations where there was no warning in the book. Of course everywhere you turn around in Hawaii, someone wants to relieve you of your money. There also appears to be a huge auto theft and theft from auto problem in Hawaii. Everywhere you turn you are warned not to leave valuables in your car. National Geographic has and should do better than this guide.

- This book has all aerial shots of all of the islands. You will not be disappointed with this book. It also documents the geological origins of the islands (the first inhabitants and the first immigrant settlers) It includes 220 photographs and has 256 pages. They spent more than 200 hours in the air taking these wonderful photographs. This one is a absolute must for all of you Hawaii lovers.
- This book is absolutely astounding. The sights in this book are magnificent and will definitely make you want to visit Hawaii!! All the pictures are rich in color and detail. It feels like some of these sights are but a few feet in front of you and you could touch them. Wow, absolutely awesome! I highly recommend this book!

- This piece is beautifully written with many photos that capture the essence of the Hawaiian Islands. The breathtaking photos really make this a wonderful keepsake for not only visitors to the islands but for the local people, as well. The interesting articles provided me with sufficient information and background that allowed me to visualize the uniqueness of Hawaii. I have enjoyed this book tremendously and recommend it to anyone that enjoys the Islands as much as I do.
- I was impressed with the quality of the photos and the useful information about Hawaii ranging from the beaches to the history of Hawaiian icons, such as the Hawaiian shirt. I was especially intrigued by a description of a traditional Hawaiian instrument. I called a friend in Hawaii and he found one for me. Anyone looking for a good descriptive book about the modern Hawaiian culture will find this book helpful. The diversity of the Hawaiian people shows in the faces of the beautiful local girls pictured in this edition.
- I travel to the Islands at least once a year and appreciate it when the locals open their hearts and offer an insightful glimpse of the life one can expect to see. In a way, this helps set expectations and guides one's unfoldment of that which makes the aloha experience so special. My only suggestion would be to offer a geographical gem to the enticing cover to complement the obvious human beauty. In truth, Hawaii is more beautiful in person than the pictures portray, which is a very welcome surprise, given how wonderful the pictures are.
- Learn about "things Hawaiian" while treating yourself to photos of Hawaiian models on every other page! ALOHA!

- This book is okay as a planning resource if you are a family of 3 or 4 and all your kids are under 12. If you are a larger family or have older kids, skip this, you're not going to find the kind of information you're looking for.
This book DOES NOT contain any information on the following:
Appropriateness of any sights, activities or attractions to the different age groups (pre-schoolers, grade schoolers and teens).
Interest level or fun factor for any of the sights, activities or attractions to the different age groups (pre-schoolers, grade schoolers or teens).
Which hotels can accomodate families of 3 only (more common than you think).
Which hotels can accomodate families of 4.
Which hotels can accomodate families of 5 without having to book 2 or more rooms. No hotel I've ever found will guarantee adjoining rooms. If you have to book this way, you run the risk of having to split your family up with one parent and some of the kids on one floor and the other parent and the rest of the kids on another floor. Also, RQ Waikiki Banyan will tell you they can accomodate 5, but will not tell you that 5th person must sleep on a rollaway that's going to cost you another $30 a night even when it's a child. It would be nice if this book would point stuff like that out.
This book also does not give you any real cost saving tips - important when you're a larger family. For instance, most all of the rooms reviewed were $200 or more a night. If you have to book 2 rooms, that gets real expensive real quick. It would have been nice to see an affordable alternative for larger families.
Also, it would be nice if this book pointed out if familiar restaurants are in the area. Our kids tire of eating at touristy places all the time(and so does our pocketbook.) It would be nice to know if we'll be able to find a Pizza Hut or a McDonalds when we're in Kailua-Kona. But alas, that kind of information is also not present in this book.
As I said, it's okay as a general guide book and somewhat helpful to small families and families with kids under 12. But for a family of 5 with 2 of our 3 kids over the age of 12, the information just fell way short of what I was looking for.

- This book was loaded with information on history of the big island of Hawai'i. A must if you are traveling there. Once you get past the first chapter it is easy reading. Due to the unfamiliar names this chapter, while extremely important in the history of the island, was somewhat slow reading but well worth the effort.
